as for your questions: James's favorite fruit is probably the Damson plum; it's rich and sweet and good for making preserves, and one of my favorite little facts about it is that, unlike other varieties of plum, you can't dry it out or prune it. I love the idea that his favorite fruit is something you can only maintain for a little while, something that demands you savor and enjoy it in its original form. he is also a great cultivator of plum wines!

Lily is going to meet Pericles, and every historical figure James can procure for her when they periodically visit Athens. she's very careful not to say anything too memorable or too strange, lest she change their work in some way.

and yes — Harry does know English, and he speaks it with Lily and a bit with James, who becomes gradually conversant, but never anything close to fluent. Lily doesn't teach Harry how to write in it, though, given that she doesn't want him to pass it down to his children or leave any trace of it behind. they call it their secret language, and it's used most often when they want to complain about something or someone without anyone knowing 😉
