To Live Honestly
So, a couple of blogs have reviewed our EP, To Live Honestly. It's been well received but each review has called me out on one thing: the fact that the blurb I included on our bandcamp about TLH, does not communicate the same message as the lyrics. Here's the original blurb:
We started to write TLH when Noah joined the band on drums. That was at the end of the summer in 2013. He brought a really cool energy to the band that we never had before. We wrote all of the songs together. I handled all of the lyrics. I was going through a huge transition in my life at the time. TLH is about not laying down and settling for a mediocre life. It's about living in fashion that fosters happiness to the fullest extent. -Tim
After reading it a few times over, I realize that I didn't word this correctly. TLH isn't about refusing to settle for a mediocre life, so much as it's about the experiences that led me to this realization. The lyrics of TLH are about the end of a relationship, a lament for lost time, realizing that honesty with yourself is more important than anything, and dealing with loss. Life experiences inspired the lyrics. They also made me realize that it is so important to live honestly, and to surround yourself with good people.
So yes, the lyrics don't line up with this original blurb. They can be dark in places, and aren't nearly as optimistic. The lyrics were written long before I understood what living honestly means. But that is ultimately where those experiences led me.
