relatedly this is why i hold more respect for star fox zero than i do for the new one coming out this month. zero tried to do new shit. some of it was bad but it tried. the new star fox really does seem like 64 with modern graphics and divisive character design.

the 3ds has a bunch of remakes early on. both 64 zelda games, star fox, tales of the abyss, xenoblade crhonicles, and a few others. nobody talks about these games save for whatever minor changes they made. regardless of what oot remake is like, discussion of it will necessarily focus on what about it is different from the original. as a piece of art that will be its only value, because everything else will have already been done before. if its going to exist, id rather it lean into that. ideally this trend of nonstop remakes would already be over, but we are stuck with it for the time being. id at least prefer we get interesting things out of it, even if they aer interesting for being bad.
