Hot take: Naoya Zenin would NOT have been âgoatedâ if he were a woman.
Insane title, i know. but i said it because i believe it is true, and i have proof for why iâm right. (also, spoilers for anyone who hasnât watched the new season of JJK)
I see a lot of people saying Naoya shouldâve been a woman, and if he had he wouldâve been âgoatedâ and a fandom favourite. personally, i disagree. (if you disagree with my stance thatâs totally fine! to each their own, absolutely no hate from me.)
for one, Naoya is meant to represent the Zenâin clanâs ideals. heâs misogynistic, egotistical and believes that women are below him. heâs also (subjectively) attractive, alluding to the beauty of traditional values, while his personality and beliefs show the uglier side of traditional values. writing him as a woman is illogical. his place in the universe of JJK is personifying his clanâs values, which he wouldnât have been able to do if he were a woman (or more specifically, a misandrist).
His death is a hell of a lot more significant than youâd think. when Naoya dies, it foreshadows the death of the Zenin clanâs misogyny under Fushiguroâs coming leader ship of the clan (with Makiâs help, of course!). this is a plot point a lot of people seem to have missed, oddly enough. again, if Naoya were a woman, his death (and the meaning behind it) would have meant nothing. Maki wouldâve simply killed a woman, a misandrist, not some evil misogynist.
(sorry, i love overthinking things and looking at the meaning behind seemingly unimportant or grossly misinterpreted characters, like Naoya.)
