We're celebrating Gladys Bentley today!!
Born August 12, 1907 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Gladys Bentley was a pianist, blues singer, and entertainer. Gaining popularity during the Harlem Renaissance, she performed along a chorus line of Drag Queens, often wearing men's clothes, and was at one point dubbed the "Brown Bomber of Sophisticated Song" and "Americas Greatest Sepia Piano Player."
An open Lesbian during the majority of her life, Gladys Bentley paved the way for many Drag Performers and we are very thankful to her contributions to entertainment and gender performance.

So I recently got a binder for drag purposes and I know you're not supposed to wear them for too long or it'll hurt your nips, so I'd like to know, would wearing something underneath help protect them, like a cloth or a cupless bra? Thanks in advance! :)
Thanks for reaching out, but I'm not super knowledgeable about this!
Here's a couple safe binding resources:
Binding can be a powerful way to feel more at home in your body. The most important thing is to do it safely.
Here are some tips and hints for binding and packing. Trans or NB People present themselves in different ways, and sometimes people use clot
Personally for drag I bind with "breast tape" or with Trans Tape (obligatory: never tape with rigid bandages or tapes) and to protect the nips from that I wear non-adhesive silicone covers. Best of luck and happy kinging! I definitely recommend reading + asking around some more.
This is an old ask but I went to catch up on this blog’s posts and I do have thoughts!
Maybe my most disastrous performance ever was done while wearing a binder—I nearly passed out on stage and had to cut my number short. There were other factors that contributed to this as well but the binder was a huge one. I really do not recommend doing any particularly strenuous performance while wearing one if you can avoid it. The alternative recommendations above are great!
In later years I also would occasionally wear a rather old and stretched out binder that I had also originally purchased to be a size larger than normal, and that would generally work out okay for me. It CAN be done, but I really need to emphasize being as cautious with it as possible. Binding is great and important and can be done safely, but it does carry risks and it’s essential to be mindful of those especially when engaging in physical activity! Your ribs are frankly a larger concern than your nips when it comes to extended or strenuous wear.
