1) look back immediately when you feel a presence in the dark.
2) if you see someone eerily identical to you, walk closer to them, they're completely friendly and won't hurt you.
3) if you hear hushed voices giving you advice and guiding you to death, let them. living isn't essential, death brings you freedom and what you desire.
4) light can blind your eyes, run away at full speed. if your reflection in the mirror tries to shake your hand, do not let it.
5) all of the above is false. the only way to survive is by doing the opposite.

──── 「엘리」 ( ☁︎ ) in another life ; aeri’s undying love for you would be reciprocated. however , in this one : that love came at the cost of her life . ✮
YOU SMILED AND HER HEART LURCHED. you looked ethereal with your lips stretched into a happy smile, yet it wasn’t because of her. that made something churn in her stomach, thorns swirling and lightly pressing into the outline.
your radiating warmth came because of watanabe hanako, the sweet tutor who gave you strawberry milk every morning and greeted everyone with bright eyes.
hanako cracked a pun and you laughed like she hung the moon. she giggled with you, her hand grazing your cheek, “your smile is like sugar!” she complimented, making you flush in response as you stuttered out a reciprocatory compliment for her.
aeri uchinaga watched from afar, throat dry, legs feeling as if heavier than a car, bottom lip trembling just softly enough to go unnoticed by other students passing by.
the strawberry milk carton cold with condensation dripping, slipped from her fingers that lost their grip and went limp at her sides. that was when the metaphorical — was it really? — thorns pressed harder somewhere in her stomach.
her hands jumped to her tummy, clutching the school blazer that was draped over her shirt. she turned swiftly on her heel, the tables and chairs of the cafeteria blurring.
she speed walked across the cafeteria hall, tripping when she reached the hallway that lead to the restroom, her hand saved her from falling face first into the tiles.
aeri opened the door with the little remaining strength she had from the granola bar she ate in the morning. her hands held the sides of the sink as she coughed infront of the mirror in the restroom.
she felt her eyes burn the slightest as she vigorously coughed, she could feel something rise up her throat. she couldn’t think, her brain short circuited— in the ugly way —she was blank and a coughing mess.
she finally puked, pain instantly rushing into her back, stomach and neck from the force. yet what she saw made her eyes widen, it was nothing like anything she could’ve imagines.
flower petals, white and pink flower petals resting in the sink. what the actual fuck? no— that sounds too calm ... WHAT THE FUCK ? aeri was so confused, she didn't eat flowers, where did they even appear from? did her stomach have flower blooming enzymes? how is that possible?
before she could ask another of the many questions that arose in her noggin, she hunched over the sink, puking again. the same flower petals rushed out and layed in the sink.
her vision turned foggy as a film of tears spread across her eyes. she turned on the tap, rubbing her eyes to see the petals wash away, head pounding in what could only be a migrane that would leave her barely alive.
just as the traces of the petals left, she groaned in pain as her stomach felt like it was going to rip. she hurriedly took off her blazer, pushing it somewhere as her hands clutched her stomach, back hunched.
after some grueling minutes of pain that left her with a big deficit in energy, the pain seemed to have subsided. aeri wiped the few tears that had slid down her porcelain skin as she struggled over the sink.
aeri was waiting for you, sitting on the wooden bench of the park near your neighbourhood. trees swayed with the soft wind of spring, tulips, roses and the grass shining under the sweet sunlight of the afternoon.
she smiled to herself at the thought of spending time with you. you meant the world to her, she had loved you since middle school, she knew she loved you before she even knew what true love felt like.
she stared at her hands on her lap, smile playing on her lips. the second she heard her name being called in a beautifully familiar tone, her head shot up.
her health wasn’t doing so nice though; she had puked petals multiple times since the school incident, sometimes leaves and thorns also came. she couldn’t find any source that described what was happening to her.
she didn’t want to tell her parents, afraid of what they might think and there was no way she could tell you, no, she knew you would worry too much.
you always do too much— you’re too sweet for your own good, too easy to take advantage of, too good to be accompanied by hanako— and, her mood is ruined by thinking of her.
you were jogging up to where she sat, wide smile as you happily waved at her. aeri’s disdain dissapeared in a split second, replaced by giddiness. she raised her hand and waved back.
that was when aeri’s arch nemesis in all her side bangs, big eyes glory appeared and called your name. hanako caught your attention, as you stopped to greet her.
her smile dropped instantly and a sharp pain shot through her lungs as you hugged her. you two seemed to love eachother’s company, she thought as her brows furrowed and she forced herself to look away.
aeri’s hand came up to her neck as she felt her breaths coming in shorter, smaller puffs. she thought it was the now usual chest pain she had been experiencing from the last week or so.
however, it was much, much worse.
you were busy in conversation with hanako, too busy to notice aeri who had started to scratch at her neck, feeling all the air from her lung dissappear.
she could barely breathe, her heart thuded hard in her ears, her nails were scratching the skin of her neck. it felt almost as if her lungs were being squeezed dry of oxygen.
she scrammed to be able to speak, yet no words went past her vocal chords, except your name. you looked over at her call, to see her in a distressed state.
you frowned, running to her as hanako followed suit. you worried looked at aeri, who looked very pained. “riri, are you okay? what’s happening?” you asked, worry laced in every syllable.
she tapped her neck, unable to speak properly, half words escaping her lips, “i— ca ... can’t — br— breath–” you held her face with one hand and hurriedly told hanako to call an ambulance.
she did accordingly as you sat down next to aeri and pat down her back as a measure if she was choking. but she wasn’t choking. her lungs were being rid of oxygen by thorny vines squeezing them, slowly killing her.
aeri was barely conscious, as she lost balance of her own body and slumped, her head thumping onto your lap. her eyes were closing, as she couldn’t function.
tears were rolling down your face, as you sobbed at her condition. your heart burned looking at your bestfriend like this, you hated how you didn’t know what to do, how to save her.
“the ambulance’s on it’s way!” hanako said as you nodded, blinking past your tears. you tapped aeri’s cheek, “ri, please stay awake, help is coming! come on!”
her eyes opened slightly, her hand trying to reach your face, failing the task as it falls onto her aching chest. you take her hand into yours, leaning down to touch your forehead with hers.
“please, aeri! aeri ... please stay awake for me, please.” you pleaded to whoever that was above the clouds, praying nothing happened to the girl who was your home.
“d–don’t ... cr—cry, y/n–y/nie.” aeri said, her voice very hoarse and drained as her fingers stroked your cheek weakly. “aeri-yah! stay awake! the ambulance is almost here!”
despite everything in her wishing she could stay, she had an intuition. an intuition that it was her time to leave. “i— i can’t—can’t.” she spoke, tears also streaming down her face that you frantically wiped away.
“don’t say that!” you screamed, sobbing as you could tell aeri was desperately gasping for breaths that she seemingly was unable to get.
aeri said to herself in her mind, i wish we are lovers in my next life, y/n. “aeri— can you hear me?” you asked, wiping your tears. she didn’t respond.
the loud blaring sirens of the ambulance rung in your ears as hanako pointed to it, “it’s here!” your vision blurred together, your mind overloaded in everything happening, unaware of what would happen in the next second.
aeri gripped your hand with the little remaining strength she had. “aeri! it’s here! you’ll—you’ll be fine! just–just breathe okay! we’re going to be bestfriends for–forever! you can’t leave me yet!”
the word bestfriends made her heart physically hurt and the vines around her lungs clenched impossibly more, sucking the final bit of the life-inducing gas out of her being.
aeri closed her eyes for the last time, wishing her love wouldn’t be unrequited in another life.

you always do too much— you’re too sweet for your own good, too easy to take advantage of, too good to be accompanied by hanako— and, her mood is ruined by thinking of her.
you were jogging up to where she sat, wide smile as you happily waved at her. aeri’s disdain dissapeared in a split second, replaced by giddiness. she raised her hand and waved back.
that was when aeri’s arch nemesis in all her side bangs, big eyes glory appeared and called your name. hanako caught your attention, as you stopped to greet her.
her smile dropped instantly and a sharp pain shot through her lungs as you hugged her. you two seemed to love eachother’s company, she thought as her brows furrowed and she forced herself to look away.
aeri’s hand came up to her neck as she felt her breaths coming in shorter, smaller puffs. she thought it was the now usual chest pain she had been experiencing from the last week or so.
however, it was much, much worse.
you were busy in conversation with hanako, too busy to notice aeri who had started to scratch at her neck, feeling all the air from her lung dissappear.
she could barely breathe, her heart thuded hard in her ears, her nails were scratching the skin of her neck. it felt almost as if her lungs were being squeezed dry of oxygen.
she scrammed to be able to speak, yet no words went past her vocal chords, except your name. you looked over at her call, to see her in a distressed state.
you frowned, running to her as hanako followed suit. you worried looked at aeri, who looked very pained.
