Love this shot by Antoine - soft and gorgeous with a light quality that reminds me of fashion magazines from my Mother's nightstand - timeless.
Guy Re-Enacts Classic Romantic Movie Scenes With His Boss’s Dog On His Lunch Breaks [mmsspp/via] Previously: Classic Movie Quotes Updated For The Digital Age
oh, i just had to..
I found this poor paperback face down in a puddle on a rainy October day. I love the texture of the pages as they are bent and aged - and the words that peek through, the detail of the page. It's such a pretty picture really, makes me think of how much I do care for books and the time I get to spend with them.

The Broken Box of Christmas Ornaments in June.
Perfect. I love the reflections this broken Christmas ornament throw, combined with the curvy and jaggedness of the bulb. Definitely a great New York City Street Fascination !!
The Calling Girl Calling Cards of Jackson Heights, Queens.
These days, these cards are a bit of rarity in Jackson Heights...my neighborhood. It's a lovely neighborhood, lovely until you get to Roosevelt Ave, underneath the Elevated 7 Train. Until a year ago, Hispanic guys would slowly and carefully (and obviously) walk down the street, and if you looked like a Southern/Central American dude coming home from work, these guys would slap one of these cards in your palm. No judgement, but it was the absolute norm on Roosevelt for years and years. The neighborhood used to be very well know as a center of prostitution and some remnants persevere.
It's the reality of this particular market and the profile of the clients. These hard workers from Latin America, that I know and respect in many, many ways, leave their families for the US for years at a stretch, and I'm sure they get lonely. The reality of what the lives of these girls that are on the other end of the telephone line is a bloody abomination of humanity...but I do "get" why this service exists in the first place.
One year ago, when the cards were littering the ground to such an extent along Roosevelt Ave. the Mayor personally addressed the situation and passed a special law and banned the passing of the cards. Why ? Not only because prostitution and pimping is illegal, but because the press picked up on the fact that local school boys were collecting and trading these cards amongst themselves. The Queens version of Major League Baseball card trading.
I was surprised when I saw this on the ground, the ban has been effective, so had to scoop it up and send the blog post along. It's a NYC street fascination.
Tiddley-Winks ! I love this game. Take a plastic disk between your thumb and fore finger, squeeze tight and snap another Tiddley-Wink into the air and try to sink it in a little bowl. Fun ! They are very graphic and interesting to look at as well. There's a mod 1960s attitude about the color and shape and texture. Plastic, yellow, red and little circles - Ole.
There is a very busy "Games" distributor in my studio neighborhood in Long Island City. I see these trucks with shipping containers being loaded all day long with boxes that say, "Games". 1000's of Identical boxes. So, walking by the other day, I found these smashed up Dominos and the next image, the Tiddley-Winks. These games are as old as time itself and so cool to see something other than a digital video game being sent to all corners of the world.
There are three or four Magnolia trees at the North End of the Rambles in Central Park. They're beautiful and enormous. There were a gaggle of kids playing below them when we harvested these flowers from it. I wish there were Magnolia Trees everywhere.

Not sure the plant, but these beauties were picked up in Central Park...they were littering the ground and needed to be removed.
From the Conservatory Gardens in Central Park. This flower had just been clipped by one of the grounds keepers. It's such a pretty and well maintained garden.
Not only did I find a perfectly good hair comb on the platform of the 6 Train at 51st Street...but it came with a sweet piece of Gum on it.
Yum, yum.
Ah, what would a visit to Central Park be without a little caution tape ? I love how the ends of this tape have been stretched and pulled. The Park used to be big and bad a scary at night...and it still may be, more scary in the imagination than in reality.
Barbie Colored Roses. That's what we decided the color of these Rose petals should be called. We found these rose petals on the grounds of the Conservatory Gardens in the 90's, in Central Park. It was a hot day, the roses were suffering from the blazing sun.

The American Elm. This leaf is from the grand Central Park stand of American Elms that lines the "Mall", the wide path from Bethesda Fountain to the Poets statues in the 70's. The Mall is one of the most photographed and iconic spots in Central Park. Few people realize that what makes it so special, so unique, is that it is one of the last large stands of American Elm trees in existence. The American Elm tree is a dying breed, suffering for decades from the Dutch Elm Disease. There is no cure, and for this reason, no one is allowed to walk below these Elms, so as not to infect them with the disease.
Love this receipt. Its crinkled paper texture does such nice things on white, it's tough to get definition on a white on white photograph. I like the way it appears to almost be growing out of the background...
It was found in Queens, came from a Dunkin' Donuts in Connecticut.
