My friend Amy composed and played this set of pieces called The Harp at the End of the Universe and I made the electronics for it! She's a great harpist and composer and this was a fun project (that we're planning to do more like in the future).

One of the fun things with listening to audiobooks is going online afterwards and learning that you were, in fact, very wrong about the spelling of some characters' names and one name is not, in fact, Pira Duvet.
New arrangement on @reacttothek — a medley of five of Taemin's songs to celebrate his return from the military! There's also one classical piece in the mix (which, as of posting, no one has identified yet).

Stray Kids ‘CASE 143’ — Classical Piano Cover 🎵
New cover is up! Case 143's chromatically descending ostinato and other chromatically-descending melodies made me think of Ligeti, so I decided to lean into that for the piano cover, extrapolating the descending patterns, spicing up some of it with an asymmetrical meter, and even throwing in a quick quote to one of his pieces (well, sort of two of his pieces, but one quote).
New piano cover is up on @reacttothek — INVU by Taeyeon!

Several updates to come on what I've been doing while away from tumblr — starting with the track Paradox Observer, produced by me (with my new producer name DothMute — yes, it's just shortened from Do the Musicy Thing), with art by The Glitched Arts (who I don't believe is on tumblr).
I hadn't previously used xenharmonic tunings (in this case, 19 equal divisions of the octave), but I wanted to give it a try and I like what came out. While I haven't done more xenharmonic production since, I do want to get back to that at some point.
Well, I'm back (maybe)
Since it seems like people are moving back here from Twitter and I tried using Tumblr the last few days and it hasn't done anything stupid...I might be back on here. I probably still won't be particularly active posting. There will be more Kpop than before.
Welp that’s twice
Tumblr reblogged something to my account again without me actually reblogging it, so it clearly wasn’t a fluke, and it’s time to log out and leave.
If you want to follow me elsewhere

@DoThMusicyThing — fandom account; mostly Kpop and Homestuck (note the lack of e in “The” because character limit)
@SWC_composer — “main” account for composerly things. I barely use it; it’s basically just where I share my music on occasion.

@swccomposer — mostly composer stuff on posts and cooking in stories.

Farewell
Hey Tumblr, why did you reblog a post to my account that I didn’t reblog? Luckily it wasn’t anything bad, but it’s a little concerning that it happened.
Finished that album, and lovely and wonderful as those songs are, I think I gotta stick with Narrative Command, the panning, the concept, GOD.
Also interesting not a SINGLE Leimotif was used. These were all wholly original.
Thank you so much! And yeah, while there was a minimum of rules on tracks for Beyond Canon (as you can hear from the vast variety among the tracks), the main rule was that we couldn’t quote old (official) Homestuck music, with the idea that this would build a new foundation.

Beyond Canon is out
It’s been such an honor to get to be a part of an official Homestuck album — it’s a great team of both old Music Team members (like Plazmataz, Jit, and RJ) and new additions from Homestuck fan musicians.

I did the track Narrative Command
(but also please listen to the whole album, because the whole team did awesome work)

Orchestras/opera houses: Wow our audience is aging and we don’t have much attendance. It’s such a mystery why so few young audiences are coming to concerts. What could possibly be the problem? Is it that we don’t make enough memes?
To end 2019 and begin 2020 with a bang, our channel arranger @dothemusicything made a 4-piano medley consisting of 38 2019 K-Pop tracks in under 6 minutes!
Hope you enjoy!
I arranged another medley, but this time played it too
2018 K-Pop Medley: ‘The Show Must Go On.’
There are 6 sections to this medley, all with their own vibe. What story are we trying to tell? It’s up to you to interpret.
It was a pleasure to arrange a medley for the musicians of @reacttothek of 42 Kpop songs from 2018, with a video made by PD (check out their channel, Form of Therapy).
And, after months of work, this is the result — melodic pivots and juxtapositions, a form of six sections, played/sung by React to the K members, together an ensemble of over 2 dozen classical and jazz musicians, divided into 3 subunits.
On July 7th, ReacttotheK’s 2018 K-Pop medley, ‘The Show Must Go On,’ will be released.
It will be premiered at ReacttotheKs Meet & Greet panel at KCON NY (12:30pm, July 7th, panel room #2).
The MV was shot and directed by FormOfTherapy and the (42 song) medley features 28 Eastman School of Music musicians who have been featured on ReacttotheK at one point or another.
This medley was inspired by the message in Jonghyun’s Before our Spring, and Sunmi Heroine’s lyrics ‘the show must go on/you must go on’ as a reply to his song.
Soon. We’ve been working on this for several months. And it’s almost time.

It’s a cover I made! Of (여자)아이들’s song 싫다고 말해 (which was composed by 소연)!
Will you join the MSPA music team when Hussie releases his next adventure?
I mean, if I were offered a chance to be on the music team, I’d do so. But I have no idea what shape a future adventure by Hussie would take or whether he’d want new people or just draw from the existing Homestuck Music Team.
