Waking up
Ratchet started to wake after twelve joors of solid recharge, onlining his optics to his darkly lit office. Funny, he couldn't remember turning those off... First Aid must've while he was out. He sat up in his cot and stretched out, letting out a yawn. He then stood up, putting a hand on his desk to steady himself as he was still waking from a long recharge. That was actually the longest he'd actually recharged in a long time.
He turned the lights on, noticing there still were no documents on his desk. There was, however, a cube of mid grade energon on it. He picked up said cube and opened the door, walking out into the medibay. He took a sip from the cube and looked around, trying to see whether the bay was busy.
Normally heād complain he didnāt need the assistance, but he was too tired to bother. Besides, Aid was only being polite.Ā
Ratchet would normally protest that he didnāt need to be checked on either, but he wasnāt like that with First Aid. His younger friend and apprentice was too kind sparked for him to yell at. Probably the only exception.Ā
He smiled and made an instinctual clicking noise in response to Aidās happy whir. It was a natural response to the noise made by a younger Cybertronian. Commonly heard from creators and their younglings.
The exchange of mechanical noises went unnoticed by First Aid, all too used to the familial behavior shown in their medibay.Ā
The younger medic squeezed Ratchetās arm, before gently pushing him towards his office. āAlright, /go/, you old coot. You deserve a nice defrag."
Ratchet looked back at Aid before continuing inside. He rolled his optics at the comment but showed no hostility towards the banter.Ā
He was more exhausted than he had originally thought. As soon as he went in his office he had planned to check to see if any reports needed completing before recharging but he found himself collapsing on the cot instead. Before he went into recharge completely, he noticed the distinct lack of datapads on his desk. First Aid and Ambulon must've taken care of it.

āRatchet, itās good to see that youāre back. We were starting to get a little short staffed around the medbay- Especially with these wreckers picking fights down in the bar.ā
"I can imagine. First Aid has informed me of everything that's been happening. It seems to be a good time for me to have come to."
"I know. But Iām concerned I might go out for weeks again." Ā He sighed. āYouāre right though. I feel like Iāve been on my peds for three weeks straight." Proper recharge should stop his helm from hurting too. He nodded and smiled. First Aid was right. āAll right, Iāll sleep. But Iāll use the cot in my office in case thereās an emergency." He got up and went to his office, turning to face his friend as he unlocked the door.Ā
"Thanks, Aid."
"No problem, Ratch." First Aid says softly, assisting his superior and his friend to his office, visor soft and a friendly shade of aqua.
"Recharge will do you good. Iāll come check on you too, okay? Just, please get your rest!" The younger medic leans up to affectionately rub his mask against Ratchetās cheek, letting out a happy whir, special to only mechs of the younger variety. āIāve got the medbay under control. Have a good rest!"

"Itās all happening very fast," First Aid explained, visor dimming in worry as he helped ease Ratchet into a seat, resting a delicate hand on his shoulder.Ā
"Maybe you should take a stasis nap, Ratch. I think it might do you wonders! I wouldnāt be surprised if it was a combination of virus and spacial rends thatās making you lose your memory, but unfortunately Iām a doctor, not a scientist." The younger medic tsked, briefly brushing his thumb over Ratchetās chevron, soothingly. āCome on, go sleep some. Iāve been taking good care of the medibay, I can go without someone helping a little while longer. Besides, I have Ambulon to help."
Ratchet nodded and sighed. He let himself be eased down.
He tried to protest with First Aidās advice. He had been asleep for three weeks. He shouldnāt need any more of it. āI shouldnāt need any more sleep." Ratchet shook his head. āIāve done too much lying around. Three weeks is plenty time to rest." He could protest all he wanted, but Ratchet knew his apprentice was right. He was just afraid heād go out for weeks again.
"You werenāt resting for three weeks, Ratch. The sort of state that the tears put a mech in can warp time for everybody involved - you think you were asleep for three weeks, but you were just in a state of limbo. You werenāt getting any rest and were probably confused and unconscious - I chalk this up to the fact that you needĀ actual recharge, okay?" First Aid looked worriedly at his mentor and friend, hoping he would understand.
The last thing he needed in the medibay was a grumpy Ratchet.
"Come on. You can set your chronometer to wake you up,and Iāll make sure you do get up, okay? I wouldnāt worry. Youāre probably just really taxed right now."
"I know. But I'm concerned I might go out for weeks again." Ā He sighed. "You're right though. I feel like I've been on my peds for three weeks straight." "Eject, right?" He thought he knew that signal.
Eject hesitates when Ratchet comms him, feeling nervousness flicker through his spark. āYeah, Doc," he responds carefully. āItās me. You, uhh⦠you remember meā¦?" He asks tentatively.
Ratchet smiled. "I'm having trouble remembering some things, but I still remember bots."Ā
"Oh! Really, nothingās been going on. Chromedome stabilized after he attempted to take his own life but I guess I tear swallowed him up right whole, because his signature isnāt anywhere on the Lost Light. Rewind and Eject also came back from the dead. And Red Alert and Ultra Magnus arenāt affected by the virus anymore."
First Aid rubs his helm, scratching at his helm crest.
"The usual, easy junk. Iām working on building Rewind a new pelvis and legs, and arm, thatās all."
"Wait⦠You just told me they were dead⦠And now theyāre notā¦" He sat back down and put a hand to his helm. āAt least Chromedome, Ultra Magnus and Red Alert are stable." He sighed. He missed too much. He tried to focus on how heād gone out again but was met with another stabbing pain in his processor. He grabbed his head again and stifled a shout of pain. Maybe he should stop trying to figure out the past and work on what was happening now.Ā
His optics dimmed and half shut as he listened to his apprentice. It was seriously starting to grind his gears how he couldnāt get his processor to work. āHopefully this virus has nothing to do with my lack of ability to access my memoryā¦" He mumbled as he put a hand to his face.

He snapped back when First Aid became awkwardly silent. āHeh, Iām asking too many questions." He decided he should visit Brainstorm later and get more info. First Aid was most likely having the same questions himself. He got up, his helm no longer bothering him. āAll right. What needs to be done immediately? Youāve most likely had a lot to do in the last few weeks."

Another Decepticon? Why were they so interested in him?Ā

Ratchet noticed the signal and felt himself growl slightly. He didn't think Pharma was still alive... This mech might be behind this whole virus business. He decided against letting the mech know he was acknowledging his signal...

"Drift." He recognized that signature. "Are you well?"

āWell, itās not right to judge others if I donāt know them. Although most Decepticons from my universe haveĀ committedĀ serious offenses and I dislike them because of it, I do not know what you have done. That is why I cannot judge you yet. I have no reason to.ā He sighed. He had never let anyone know this before, and others might find it odd, but he had never judged anyone that way.
-He snorted through his intakes.-
Iāll have to keep my resume to myself then. Most Autobots tend to find itā¦disagreeable.
But war brings out the worst in people, I suppose.
I would say that I miss the Halcyon days of pre-war peace, but thatās a terrible trap to fall into.Ā
Ratchet's optics narrowed as Scrapper spoke. But if he had done anything that would anger him, it was very smart not to bring it up.Ā
Even Decepticons had feared his wrath in the past.Ā

āHmm⦠Another Skywarp it seemsā¦ā He wonders whether this one is anything like the Skywarp from his universe.
Hiya Ratchet, how goes the business of giving mechs blunt force trauma to the head? Some Autobotās, Itād probably make em smarter, heh.
āYouād be surprised how manyĀ benefitĀ from a wrench to the helm.ā He chuckles a little.Ā
Some things never change, huh.
So howās tricks? Itās been ages since I sent an Autobot off to the medbay. Our Ratch must be gettin real bored.
He sounded very... Friendly. Still, the war was over in Ratchet's universe. He had no idea what was going on in Skywarp's. "It's surprising the number of bots I have to repair because of their own stupidity.Though I'm not sure why it's still a surprise." He sighed. Some just never learned.
āSo⦠these forged memories, theyāre not another botās? Theyāre just⦠there? Ugh. This is starting to hurt my processor. I probably shouldnāt focus on it so much, but I feel like Iāve missed too much.ā Ratchet still felt terrible about being out for three weeks, especially when it sounded so much like theyād needed him here. Perhaps if heād been researching it from the start no one wouldāve gotten hurt or died of this virus.
He trailed off, lost in his thoughts.
"Itās⦠donāt think about it too much." First Aid rubbed his helm, clearly at a loss for words now, his mask shifting awkwardly. There wasnāt much more to explain without further knowledge. āI just kinda accept it and move on, and Iāll get back to it whenever Brainstorm learns more ābout it." He shrugged.
He snapped back when First Aid became awkwardly silent. "Heh, I'm asking too many questions." He decided he should visit Brainstorm later and get more info.
