I thought Homestuck was that one old dude who signed the decoration of independence
No, that's Hancock, you're thinking of the mechanism that toilet tanks use to refill without overflowing.
That's a ballcock. Homestuck is a thick cut of meat from the center of a pig's leg.
That's ham hock. Homestuck is that pokemon challenge where you release pokemon when they faint.
I think you're thinking of Nuzlocke? Homestuck is a Counter-Strike meme from eighteen years ago
That's door stuck! Everyone knows Homestuck is that guy who annoys Strong Bad
that's homestar runner! homestuck is actually what they call it when you hit a baseball really hard
easy mistake, thatâs actually home-run! homestuck is that one Christmas movie from 1990 starring Macaulay Culkin
Close! Thatâs home alone! homestuck is actually the name of a party where everyone contributes their own dish
Not quite, that's a potluck. Homestuck is a big box chain of hardware and home improvement stores, the one with the orange logo
i think thats home depot. homestuck is that thing that hockey players push around on the ice
That's a hockey puck! Homestuck is an assignment that you have to complete outside of class time.
Youâre thinking of homework. Homestuck is that grid game you draw on a sidewalk in chalk where you jump from square to square.
Concept: fairy tale where the wicked step-parent (who is of course also some sort of warlock) transforms the princess into a swan, as one does, but rather than running off to mope around in a lake and be beautifully tragic, the princess decides to stick around the palace and cause problems on purpose.
It is a beautiful day in the palace, and you are a horrible swan princess.
In my defense, who turns somebody they want to get rid of into a swan, anyway?
Like. Swans are gigantic, territorial, feather-clad balls of muscle and hatred. Also, magic is expensive and complicated and makes you grow an ugly little goatee - although maybe thatâs just my uncle. Why would you even bother? Like, poison is right there.Â
Of course, unfortunately, my uncle has always subscribed to the philosophy of âwhy be evil if you canât be dramatic about it?â.

"does it have to be queer"
yes, next question, unless the next question is "why", in which case I am pulling the lever
Could it be more queer?
(To my personal assistant) Increase the sea salted wolverineâs budget
Especially love that sea-salted-wolverineâs badges make it look like they are very actively raising their paw to ask this very important question.
Iron Lung and Project Hail Mary as "men who persevere against impossible odds and find courage in the depths of despair"
Versus Obsession and Backrooms "men will willingly stay in a literal horror movie situation over confronting their mistakes and taking responsibility for their actions"
backrooms spoilers with no context:

So... I found this and now it keeps coming to mind. You hear about "life-changing writing advice" all the time and usually its really notâbut honestly this is it man.
I'm going to try it.
I love the lawyer metaphor, because whenever I see âJohn knew that...â in prose writing I immediately think âhow? How does he know it?â Interrogate your witnesses. Cross-examine them. Make them explain their reasoning. It pays dividends.
All of this, but also feels/felt. My editor has forbidden me from using those and itâs forced me to stretch my skills.
This is your "show not tell" advice explained!
Editor here.
First, let me preface this with something very important: you can treat all of this advice as SECOND-DRAFT ADVICE. It is so much easier to rewrite this kind of stuff once you have words on the page. Telling yourself the first draft is totally appropriate and acceptable.
What weâre talking about here are FILTER WORDS (and to some degree verbs of being). Yes, âthoughtâ words are included. But so are âheard, saw, looked, tasted, smelledâ etc.âmost words having to do with the senses.
This isnât black and white advice; sometimes youâll use these words and thatâs okay. Theyâre not WRONG. Theyâre just weaker. And theyâre weaker because they create distance between the reader and the experience of the character.*
If you want your reader to feel like theyâre experiencing the story right alongside the character, you want to cut down on filter words.
*This is particularly important with first person and close third POVs. The reader always knows whose eyes theyâre seeing through and thoughts theyâre privy to. So you donât need to tell them âI saw X.â Or âI heard X.â Or âI thought Y.â You can just jump into the action/observation as itâs happening.
This is also where you want to pay attention to verbs of being.
âIt was rainy.â Versus: âThe rain pounded against the roof.â Or âThe rain howled like an injured animal.â Or âThe rain tapped against the window like an anxious lover.â All of these are inviting the reader deeper into the experience of the story by using stronger verbs and similes. And, at the same time, they stir feelings (instead of TELLING feelings). And feelings keep your reader engaged. Engaged readers keep turning pages; engaged readers become FANS.
This is also where
you want to pay attention
to verbs of being.
Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
The most valuable advice that Author Ex gave me through the years that we wrote together was this: the problem with all these filter words is that they create distance in the POV.
That means that when you read a line like
John saw that the curtains were open.
It immediately takes you OUT of the character's perspective and instead tells you what they experience as a secondhand observation.
You don't have to get fancy or purple with how you rephrase things like this. Not everything needs a ton of breathing room.
You wanna know what's perfectly impactful while keeping a tight POV?
The curtains were open.
Simple as that.

Examining 'gender detachment' in the asexual community
Saving @derinthescarletpescatarian 's tags because I just like the way they are worded.
This is so cool
This is so validating because the respondents in this paper are saying some of the same things I've been feeling and thinking for years.
I'm asexual. I figured that out not long after I first came across the term in high school. But figuring out my gender took a lot longer. I didn't really think about my gender identity for years, it wasn't until I was in college that I started trying to figure out what my gender was. That process took years.
I didn't really feel attached to my assigned gender, but I also didn't feel the gender dysphoria that trans people described. I didn't particularly feel like I was neither of those either. For a long time, I honestly didn't feel like any of the gender descriptions and identities I was coming across really fit. I just didn't care that much about what my actual gender was. Eventually I decided upon the agender label as that seemed the most apt. As the paper says, it's really hard to be truly without gender in this highly gendered world. Agender is a way of defining myself in a way that people who experience gender might be able to understand when "I'm just me." isn't really an acceptable answer to the "what's your gender?" question.
I don't mind being perceived as a gender, none of them are offensive to me. While I do like when I am perceived as male or at least not female, I think that more has to do with growing up female and not wanting to be pushed into traditional female roles and values than a connection or repulsion to any gender. I'm impossible to misgender because I frankly don't care.
Honestly, the biggest problem I have with my gender, is trying to define it to people. There's been a large push in recent years for asking people for their pronouns, or including pronouns in things like email signatures and surveys. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is a bad thing! This is very affirming for a lot of people. But it feels like I need to pick something that doesn't quite fit. At pride, for instance, there's always pronoun buttons. But they're all she/her, he/him, they/them, she/they, he/they, it/it, xe/xir, etc etc. And that's great. I'm always glad that there are a lot of options for people. But there's never any pins for any/all pronouns. I've never picked up a free pronoun pin at pride, despite always looking, because they all feel like picking what pronouns I don't want poeple to use and the answer is that I don't care. I fround an any/all pronoun pin once at a queer museum and I cried.
I really suggest you read the paper if you haven't. Not just the article, the whole paper. This is probably the most seen I've felt in a long time.
I always say Any/All when asked for my pronouns, and I had to explain that my gender didnât matter to me, so whatever was easiest for people to remember worked.
When someone tried to challenge this and ask how I referred to myself in my head with âI bet you say âyou got this, girl,â to yourself all the time,â I responded with âOh, for that I use âWe.â We got this. We can do this. Cuz Iâm a collective of experiences, really.â
They could not grasp that, either.
Gender is for other people, and Imma make a stink for anyone disrespecting that, but mine doesnât exist and therefore canât be disrespected.
whatever it is that you have on the inside
Just started this anime today and my husband had the audacity to fall asleep during the first episode.

âGhosts arenât realâ itâs very fair and rational that you believe that

Stray Dog Strut
-
I like this one better than the one I did for episode 1.
Should I start on honky tonk woman?
I was 12 when the first of my siblings was born, so I have very vivid memories of the way my mother was excluded from a lot of spaces because people find children annoying.
If you think "children should not be allowed in this space," you HAVE TO reckon with the fact that you are now excluding parents (and very often women specifically) who don't have access to childcare. You are isolating people who are poor, or rural, or single parents, or any number of other factors that might prevent someone from having on-demand childcare. You are cutting them off from being able to exist in public. You are denying parents and children the ability to fully participate in society.
My mom spent several years only leaving the house to buy groceries or take me to school, and even then, people would still come up to her to complain TO HER FACE about how she shouldn't bring a crying toddler to Walmart. Entitled strangers would literally try and demand that my mom leave and come back without the kids.
"Why can't your husband watch them?" Because he was at work, usually working extreme amounts of overtime so we didn't get evicted, because landlords don't like it when you stop paying rent.
"Why can't you send them to daycare?" Because that costs money.
"Why can't your teenager stay home with them and babysit?" Because I also deserved to be able to leave the house for something other than school, and taking me to the grocery store was how my mom taught me to manage a household budget, shop sales, and meal plan.
"Don't bring your kid in public if you can't CONTROL them and make them stop crying!" Kids cry when they're upset, and being dragged around a store is upsetting! Don't be an asshole! Children are human beings who are still learning how the world works, and they don't have a lot of agency. You'd cry, too.
"Spank them until they learn to stop crying!" That's just straight-up child abuse, Jesus Christ.
What the fuck was our family supposed to do? Never go to the grocery store? Starve because strangers couldn't handle a toddler existing in public?
I am incredibly fucking disturbed at the way this post has brought people out of the woodwork who really want to tell me all about how hitting kids isn't actually abuse, how they think babies are the spawn of Satan, and how being confined to the home is an acceptable punishment for women who dare to have children. People have told me all about how they think children should be banned from airplanes, that I'm being inconsiderate to childfree people, that allowing crying babies in public is ableist against people with sensory issues (I have those, too, and so do many children, which is often WHY THEY ARE CRYING, jackass), and that people who have children are "irresponsible" and "selfish."
I have blocked multiple people who went on tirades about how I'm a "horrible breeder" who is "contributing to overpopulation" and how I and my "spawn" deserve to be trapped at home. (I am infertile and my foster kid is an adult now, so I don't know what breeding and spawn they think they're talking about.)
One person asked if I was posting ragebait for fun because "this isn't a real issue." Several have asked if this "really happens" and told me that my "experience isn't universal." (There are multiple parents in the comments who have agreed with me and talked about how hard it is to navigate the world with their kids.)
Children are an oppressed class who are treated like absolute vermin. Parents are given absolutely no support in caring for them. Good parents are set at a disadvantage even when they have all the best intentions, struggling parents aren't given resources to improve their situation or get community assistance, and blatantly abusive parents don't get caught because hitting and screaming and controlling are considered perfectly normal ways to treat a child. Communities would rather shut kids away where they can be ignored and forgotten and mistreated, all for the sin of "being annoying in public."
Youth liberation is vital, regardless of whether you, personally, like kids. You cannot ban children from public. You cannot shut children away in isolation and expect them to grow into happy, healthy, well-adjusted adults who can function in our society. You do not get to demand children be removed from every corner of public life all for your personal comfort.
Children are people.
My spouse and I are childfree by choice. I grew up around babies and toddlers and so am unphased.
Heâs also an only child and never grew up with babies, and he very much does NOT like them.
But if a baby starts crying in public? He goes, âme, too, kid,â and just goes about his business. He was one of those angel-babies with a widowed mom, so she took him everywhere. And even though he was an angel, he doesnât expect other babies to be the same way. âI wasnât the norm.â
The worst heâll do about a crying kid on an airplane is groan about it, because heâs a human, and heâs allowed to be annoyed. But if a kid runs up to him and tries to interact? Heâll get confused, but he will try his best to seem warm and safe. (He does not know how to interact with small humans; it is delightful.)
Because kids SHOULD be in public spaces. They are little humans and need to see what humans are doing and be exposed to the human world. Parents shouldnât be punished for having kids and more than childfree people shouldnât be punished for not having them.
âControl your kidsâ is such a toxic fucking concept. Youâre not SUPPOSED to control people; youâre supposed to help teach them how to conduct themselves in a healthy and productive manner.
