— here i reign .

Her  heart  sinks  into  her  chest.  For  that  seemingly  endless,  yet  short  amount  of  time  she  could  swear  she  stopped  hearing  the  echo  of  its  beating  in  her  ears.  He  knows.  Stiff,  she  fixes  her  posture  as  she’s  sitting,  the  mug  of  hot  coffee  between  her  palms  almost  burning  her  skin ;  she  doesn’t  seem  to  feel  it.  When  questioned,  her  silence  is  extended,  she  fails  to manage  to  look  him  in  the  eyes,  guilty.  ❝  Yes.  ❞  she  defends ;  she  was  going  to  tell  him,  sooner  or  later,  maybe  more  later  than  sooner,  maybe  when  it  was  already  too  late.  In  fact,  in  the  back  of  her  mind  it’s  clear  that  this  fleeting  happiness  won’t  last  long,  she  will  loose  the  baby  as  it  happened  before.  And  while  knowing  this  should  lead  her  to  the  wise  decision  of  not  getting  attached,  she’s  doing  everything  in  her  power  to  let  happiness  invade  her,  almost  jealous  of  the  news  she  hasn’t  shared  with  anyone  so  far.  And  last  but  not  least,  this  beast  of  a  man  ruins  everything  he  touches.  Keeping  him  unaware  was  her  way  to  protect  herself,  and  the  baby.  ❝  I  thought  you   were  going  to  get  angry  and  lash  out  at  me  if  I  told  you.  ❞

last  night  was  a  mere  hiccup  .     a     lot     of     barking     &     a     lot     of     biting     on     his     end     .     it     was     eventually     going     to     catch     up     to     her     ,     when     her     lips     are     put     to     better     use          than  being  around  him  .          it     can’t     always     be     perfect     ,     amy     believes     —     but     that     bruise     among     others     had     reminded     her          all  day          that     you     can’t     teach     an     old     dog     new     tricks     .                    ❛     y’were     mad     …     ❜                    she     excuses     him     ,     tensing     at     the     touch     from     hands     that     were     violent     the     last     time     the     sun     went     down     .     but     amy          knows  better  than  to  disobey  the  man  .          if     her     father     had     found     out     about     their     quarrel     —–     he’d     find     a     way     to     pin     the     blame     on     her     somehow     :     his     scapegoat     now     belongs     to     someone     else     .     that’s     all     it     was     .                    ❛     i     shouldn’t     ‘ve     said     what     i     said     .     ❜

         ‘   see  that  woman  in  the  black  dress  at  the  bar  ?     ’        the  devil  herself   .   or  at  least  ,  in  sergei's  eyes  but  isn't  every  mother  a  burden  in  her  son's  eyes  ?   the  woman  had  told  him  she'd  be  coming  to  the  event  months  beforehand  ,  a  WARNING  so  he  could  prepare  himself  for  an  evening  of  dreadful  catching  up  with  the  woman    .        ‘     how  would  you  like  being  my  WIFE  for  the  evening  ?   nothing  angers  a  mother  more  than  finding  out  her  son  got  married  behind  her  back     ’

                    she  is  not  supposed  to  be  there   .   no  one  is  supposed  to  be  wandering  around  while  the  sky  is  pouring  with  rain  at  such  early  hour  in  the  morning  except  for  him   .   the  man  is  in  need  of  clothes  ,  something  to  cover  him  until  he  does  go  back  home  and  find  himself  something  that  actually  fits  his  tall  frame   .   last  night's  moon  left  his  muscles  aching  and  his  clothes  ripped  to  shreds  somewhere  in  the  forest   .   it  isn't  until  he  hears  the  crunch  of  leaves  under  feet  that  he  turns  around  and  sees  HER   .   only  then  does  he  become  newly  aware  of  the  blood  stains  over  his  skin  that  are  now  washing  down  with  the  rain   .   jaw  tightens  ,  resisting  the  urge  to  tell  her  to  GO  AWAY   .   go  shelter  from  the  rain   .   he’s  managed  to  steal  a  worn-out  jacket  earlier  from  a  guy  down  the  road   .   it  could  never  fit  a  man  as  large  as  him  but  it  can  certainly  fit  her  so  he  approaches  her  and  hands  it  over  to  her   .        ‘        go  home        ’

                 toughened  fingertips  glide  down   the  silhouette  of  her  body  ,  up  the  hill  of  her  shoulder  and  down  the  length  of  her  arm   .   he  should  be  long  gone  by  now  but  last  night  was  a  long  night  for  both  of  them  for  many  reasons  :   he'd  brought  home  with  him  a  lot  of  anger  and  she'd  been  there   .   wrong  time  ,  wrong  place   .   he'd  forgotten  about  their  quarrel  until  now   .   his  motions  come  to  a  halt  when  he  catches  a  dark  bruise  wrapped  around  her  wrist   .   that  isn't  the  kind  he  loves  to  mark  her  with   —   no  ,  this  one  is  different   .   ANGRY   .        ‘        did  i  do  that  to  you  ?        ’

                  ‘        do  you  have  something  to  tell  me  ?        ’        the  question  springs  out  of  nowhere  but  his  gaze  remains  perched  on  her  as  he  sips  his  morning  coffee   .   he’s  waiting   .   he's  given  her  plenty  of  time  to  process  the  information  ,  even  a  day  or  two  more  out  of  kindness   .   to  gather  to  courage  to  tell  him  because  he  wants  to  hear  her  say  it   .   a  bit  futile  since  she  has  still  not  done  so  but  he  can’t  say  he  blames  her   .   on  the  contrary   ,  she  should  be  scared   .        ‘        i  found  a  pregnancy  test  in  the  garbage  outside   .   were  you  planning  to  tell  me  at  all  ?        ’
