I got a lot more support than I thought so here’s just a little doodle I did of three of em for the first episode of cr4 campaign a bit ago👉👈
I really love how Thaisha turned out!! She is so cute.
wanted to draw that Hannan/Vaelus moment+Katt, but I needed to draw hannan and there is so few references of him so I decided to draw my own, then got too tired to draw the rest XD...
The entire scene between Hannan and Vaelus was obviously fantastic but I especially loved the line "I think when you love a version of a person that isn't real it makes you hate the version of them that exists in the real." I made a post a few months ago about the elves' relationship with Sylandri being akin to an abusive, controlling parent; Sylandri didn't want children, she wanted - exactly as Hannan said - dolls she could play with in this perfect paradise world she had created, and the whole point of playing with dolls is they do whatever you tell them.
Hi! You wanted a reminder once you were done the episode to talk about how the narrative of Araman lets more interesting questions about the gods be asked?
Oh yeah I mean the quick and dirty version which is what we're doing bc fire alarm, 2 am, etc etc, also I just watched Fire Island while drinking a canned mocktail to which I poured a shot and a half of tequila is really just that the Hall of Mercy represents that the Shapers were, well, Shapers.
Remember how fucking dumb the attempts at colonization metaphors were for Exandria because there, the gods genuinely did create mortals, and so any focus on the Primordials failed to really place mortals in said metaphors, which is kind of a problem if your goal is to talk about mortals? Well, this is the actual colonization metaphor. There are entities who likely will never recover from the impact of colonization (eg, the elves). There are people who are reclaiming past traditions and thriving, but bear a great deal of scars from that legacy (eg, the orcs). There is artificial separation and exacerbated racism/xenophobia vs. the much more....evenly heterogeneous with a few exceptions world of Exandria. The gods granting specific gifts to a few houses has left a legacy that persists despite Tansul being dead, which is much more accurate to postcolonial societies than this idea that you kill the gods and you eliminate the source of inequality.
I feel the Hall of Mercy is most emblematic, because it shows that the Shapers imposed an order on the world that was always too small for it. It never accounted for dragons, or giants, or anything sentient that was not of the seven races, and did not even permit them to go on the Old Path or whatever other pre-existing afterlife but actively forced them into this system that then gave them no space to exist.
Compare again with Exandria, where the gods created mortals and gave them the means to shape the world from the beginning, increasingly relinquishing power over time vs. tightening their clutches. We have a world where druids were hunted and persecuted vs one where the most established druidic order was independent of the gods, with no expectations of worship, and also was created to guard the sealed Primordials.
Basically, it's the same old thing I've been saying for a while. Exandria was created as something expanding out of the small one-shot setting town of Stillben, and grew to accommodate what the founding cast wished to play as Vox Machina and later the Mighty Nein, and so it fails to exist as a world where the experiences of those parties and characters are not valid and true and meaningful, which therefore permanently undermines any depiction of the Prime Deities as deserving of slaughter. One could say in TTRPGs, the purpose of a setting is what it does. Araman was explicitly created as a world where the destruction of the gods was justified. The Hall of Mercy is just one detail showing it. The fact that it as a world now struggles without the gods when it existed and functioned quite well prior to their arrival is how it proves its thesis.
Regarding Bolaire's insistence that he needs to keep Wick specifically alive in the Villa Aurora because he's "important", it pairs interestingly with his assertion to Julien that most people aren't really people underneath it all. Together they paint a picture of a being with a mindset where you only get the privileges of being a real person worthy of life if he judges your life to have meaning, either because you're interesting and singular like Wick and Occtis or because you're a storyteller like Hal and Demodus. Everyone else is on thin ice with him where he's willing to disregard their personhood the moment it's convenient, and given he's a sentient mask who needs to wear people to interface with the world, oftentimes it is very convenient for him to ignore that he's wearing people and not just flesh suits.

CRITICAL ROLE 4X28: Chasing Shadows
when you're a demon and your angel crush asks you to bite his face and draw blood
The Candescent Creed version of the play had to be the fantasy version of those Easter plays from that one Jenny Nicholson's where they shoehorn crucifixion scenes in random movie plots. Musical numbers and unfunny pop culture references included.
Big snek, full tummy (again, prooobably not Wic's mom)
the elves in aramán are profoundly fucking sad. they're decaying. their people are completely unable to reproduce and they were created by the goddess of life. that feels like sylandri's real barrowdell. the elves as a dying people without her to sustain them.
