Up All Night

Funny how “fandoms” just end up leaving a lot of people feeling out of the loop and not knowing what the hell is going on. So much happens privately that then gets discussed publicly as if “everyone” should know what’s happening, and it ends up being like a bad day in high school, every day. Except it’s worse because you’re here to have fun and it’s not fun to be standing outside the circle. Be cognitive of the fact that not everyone automatically understands the unwritten social rules. Be inclusive! If you were ever excluded from things in grade school or high school or, hell, even at the office, think about how terrible that felt and apply your feelings to your online life to do better. Stop creating little cliques within your fandoms or you’re no better than the bullies who probably drove you to an online life in the first place. Everyone likes to belong, to have something special, and that’s completely understandable, but it’s too easy to become a Heather or a Regina. Resist that urge! Of course you have friends or mutuals who are closer than others, but that doesn’t have to play out in your daily online life in the fandom.
