Hey, just wanted to drop a quick thank you for making these! :) I stopped writing back in 2007 and then somehow randomly one day fell back into the world of Inuyasha fanfiction two years ago. Writing IY fics as a grown person is such a different experience. Anyways, recently, as in like the last week, discovered this whole new world of tumblr and was pleasantly surprised at how active this fandom is on here. So much fun hearing 'real people' gush about my favourite fandom!
So I JUST NOW saw this -- I have no idea how long this message has been sitting in our inbox unattended. Iâm so sorry if you sent this ages ago!!
Thank you so much for this message! Iâm glad you found your way back to the fandom (I had the same experience around 2017 or so). Itâs definitely a different experience to plug into the fandom as an adult. In some ways itâs more fun, I think, because itâs easier to sidestep âfandom dramaâ and just enjoy yourself. And the Inuyasha fandom has so many creative folks in it, itâs easy to get inspiration to create yourself. :)Â
I hope youâve been enjoying yourself, and Iâm glad you liked listening to our silliness! @gypsin and I have been talking about maybe recording more episodes about Yashahime, so we may be back soon.Â

Hey folks! Weâre thinking about doing an episode where we ask each other some of these questions, but we thought it would be extra fun if you guys sent some in. So, if you want to hear us ramble answer one (or more) of these questions, send them in!!
In this episode, we talk about the ways that fanfiction can both negatively and positively influence how we interpret canon material, particularly canon characterization. The characters that stuck out to us in this regard: Koga, Shippo, Miroku, and more! Hope you enjoy!Â

We just finished recording an episode that turned out to be an hour (!!) long, and weâre wondering: is an hour too long for you guys? Would you be down to clown with an hour-long episode, or would you rather we broke it up into two half-hour episodes?? An hour feels like itâs asking a lot, but weâre not really sure, so let us know what you think and we can edit accordingly.   Â
how to know if tumblr has been eating your asks: send yourself anywhere between 5-10 asks, ( anon or not ) but have each ask be nothing but an order in which you sent them.
i.e: the first ask says â1â˛, the second says â2â˛, etc etc.
i sent myself ten of these, both on anon and not. This was all i received back:
Tumblr is now eating asks along with notifications. We must be more interactive than ever if we want keep this form of entertainment we call the rpc. Go ahead and warn your friends or test this for yourselves.. This post is reblogable.
I just did this myself last night and out of the ten ask I sent myself only one came through.
Please know if Iâm not responding to you, your ask, or your messages, I am not willingly ignoring you. I am however doing my best to try and stay in contact with everyone.
Iâve been noticing this too, guys! If you need me it seems like the best way to get in touch is either spam my inbox or just shoot me a chat message, because reblogs and replies are no longer showing up.
Iâm still getting notifications about the porn bots whoâre following me, though. *sighhhhh*
This just came to our attention and we'd like to let everyone who follows this podcast know that if we haven't responded to your ask then feel free to spam our inbox or send us a pm

Hello friends! In this episode, we discuss the following question, submitted by Anonymous:Â
âWhen you start fics, do you write in the spur of the moment from inspiration or do you plan out most of the plot first?â Â
Thank you to the anonymous question asker for sending this in! It fueled a surprisingly passionate discussion.Â
In the episode, we reference an essay by George Saunders titled âWhat Writers Really Do When They Write,â which you can find here if youâre interested.Â
Happy listening!Â

In this episode, we got to shoot the breeze with @keichanz! We had so much fun chatting with her! We hope you enjoy listening to our conversation as much as we enjoyed having it.Â
Just a sampling of what we talked about:Â
Keiâs start with fanfiction
Her writing process
The land of forgotten fics
âSlamming it outâ ;)Â
Some of Keiâs current WiPs and future fic ideas
Happy listening!Â

These are my favorite podcasts at the moment, in no particular order:Â
Under the cut Iâll give links and brief descriptions of each.Â
On Being, hosted by Krista Tippett, is all about conversation. Krista interviews scientists, poets, social activists, political leaders, religious thinkers, artists, etc., and asks them âthe animating questions at the center of life: What does it mean to be human, how do we want to live, and who will we be to each other?â I find this podcast fascinating and nourishing, and I highly recommend it!
Selected Shorts is a great podcast for fiction lovers! It features live recordings of short fiction narrated/performed by actors on stage. Iâve found some fabulous writers through this podcast.Â
The Moth is all about story and how it connects us to each other. Itâs live recordings of regular (and not-so-regular) people telling their true stories. I love listening to it.Â
The Adventure Zone has been my obsession for going on two years now. Itâs three brothers and their dad playing Dungeons and Dragons together (and in recent episodes, other kinds of tabletop role-playing games). Itâs absolutely hilarious, but also great storytelling with surprisingly poignant, emotional moments. The Balance Arc (episodes 1 - 69) is incredible and 100% worth listening to. Donât be intimidated by its lengthâitâs a ride you wanna take!Â
My Brother, My Brother and Me is an improv comedy podcast featuring the same three brothers from The Adventure Zone. They dispense terrible, terrible advice that no sane person should take. I laugh through every episode. Warning, though: their humor can sometimes be pretty crass, so yâknow... donât listen with children around. (Also, this podcast got turned into a 6-episode TV show that is equally hilarious. You can buy it on iTunes.)Â Â
Hello from the Magic Tavern is another improv comedy podcast. The host, Arnie Niekamp, fell through an inter-dimensional portal behind a Burger King in Chicago and ended up in the magical world of Foon. With his new friends, a grouchy Wizard named Usidore and shapeshifter named Chunt, he interviews a magical guest every week, and shenanigans ensue. If youâre looking for some fantasy-themed giggles, this is an excellent podcast. (I got to see them record live at Emerald City Comic-con last year and it was amazing! I love my tavern boys.)Â
Radiolab almost needs no introduction; itâs one of those podcasts that most people have heard of, it seems like. If you dig stories, and science, and learning about the world, this is an excellent podcast to get into. I love listening to it.Â
This American Life is another podcast that needs little to no introduction; Iâm willing to bet itâs one of the longest-running radio shows (and now podcasts) in America. They take a theme every week, and tell three stories based around that theme. Itâs entertaining but also super informative; Iâve learned a lot from this podcast.Â
Criminal. Do you like true crime stories and narrators with excellent presence? Then youâll love this podcast. The stories are interesting, and the host Phoebe Judge has the most incredible voice ever.Â
Snap Judgment is all about stories with a beat. Itâs similar to The Moth in that it features true stories from real people, and the sound production is awesome. Â
The Bright Sessions is âa science fiction audio drama about people with supernatural abilities in therapy.â It is phenomenal storytelling, yâall. I highly, highly recommend.Â
Invisibiliais a podcast all about the unseen forces that shape and define our lives. Things like emotions, genetics, human perception, etc. Itâs a super informative and compelling listen!
The Liturgists, in their own words, âare a global community working to subvert the barriers our society builds around religion, race, gender, ability, and sexuality. Our work is centered around compelling discussion, non-judgmental community, and thoughtful, evocative art.â They discuss a wide variety of topics through the lens of spirituality and faith, and Iâve found it a nourishing, oftentimes challenging podcast to listen to.Â
Thatâs it for now! If any of you out there have other podcast recommendations, feel free to add on to the pile!! Â
We are so excited for this one, you guys! In this episode, weâre joined by @inukag-4everâwho has a degree in world religions with an emphasis on Japanese religious traditions, specifically Buddhism and Shintoismâand she shares her knowledge with us as we discuss the following:Â
I think in the Buddhist faith it is believed that parts of one soul can be reborn in different bodies. I'm not a Buddhist, so I can't say whether it is true or not, maybe somebody else who has a better knowledge of Buddhism can enlighten us there. Hope to hear the next podcast soon!!! â @umacaking
We wander down many rabbit holes in pursuit of this topic, including:Â
Reincarnation and karmic cycles, specifically as seen with Midoriko/Kikyo/Kagome, and the Shikon Jewel itself
The confluence of both Buddhist and Shinto themes in Inuyasha
Understanding âhellâ or the âunderworldâ as itâs represented in Inuyasha through a Buddhist lens
Individual identity and shared souls
Soul mates
It was such a blast to have this conversation with @inukag-4ever, and we really hope to have her with us again in future episodes! Also, you might want to check out this fabulous essay she wrote arguing that Kikyo and Kagome are ultimately reincarnations of Midoriko.Â
Finally, here is a link to a visual diagram of the various âstagesâ of reincarnation; you might find it a useful reference as Analisa walks us through it in the podcast.Â
Weâre really pleased with how this episode came out, and we hope you all enjoy it!

Hey guys! So, today I´m finally allowed some peace and quiet to listen to your podcast but I just get to a part where it stops and I can´t listen to the rest! I could only get like 10-15 minutes and nothing else. Is it just me?? Nobody else had that issue? Also I hate it that I can´t just FF to the part I had just left, I have to restart from the beggining. If you have any tips, I´m all ears, please.
Oh no! Iâm sorry that youâve been having that problem! Which episode were you listening to? We havenât heard from anyone else experiencing that problem, but if anyone else reading this has had the same issue, please let us know! My best (but very blind) guess is that it was a problem with your internetâmaybe the episode hadnât loaded completelyâbut Iâm really not sure. Maybe we can re-upload the episode and see if that would work?Â
And yeah, itâs a big pain that you canât fast forward with the Tumblr audio player. =/ We used to host our episodes on Soundcloud, which had the fast-forwarding option, but Soundcloud only allows you to upload so much for free; we got to the point where weâd have to start paying to continue using it, which weâre not willing to do. Now weâre using Archive.org to host our episodes and then cross-posting onto Tumblr; but that means using the Tumblr audio player, which I know isnât the best. If anyone else knows of a free audio-hosting site, weâd be happy to take recommendations. Â
Anyway, weâll try to troubleshoot the problem with the episode. Thanks for letting us know! Â
This episode is all about Kikyo! Her life, her death, her motivations, her development. We invited the lovely and opinionated @lacyjaybird to talk with us about why she enjoys Kikyoâs character. It was a treat to have her join us, and we hope you guys enjoy!Â
Some of the things we touched on: the significance and symbolism of the ending theme âMy Willâ; Kikyoâs desire to be seen as a woman versus a miko; and how âsoulâ and âidentityâ may be different.Â
YAY! I listened to this one while I was doing mindless tasks at work! I was so excited to hear my name mentioned! For those who donât know, my name is Analisa and I majored in World Religions in uni with a specialization in Japanese Religious Traditions (Buddhism and Shintoism specifically).
So @mustardyellowsunshine, @gypsin & @lacyjaybird were wondering: Do miko (Shinto shrine maiden like Kagome) or houshi (Buddhist monk like Miroku) have to be celibate? Or can they get married?Â
The (short) answer is YES! As you all can see at the end of the anime/manga, both Miroku and Kagome get married and thereâs no issue in that. The reason Kikyou wasnât marrying wasnât simply because she was a miko, it was because she had a duty to protect the Shikon jewel from all the youkai that were constantly vying for its power. Her immense spiritual ability was why she was selected to guard the jewel (in addition to her past life karma according to my supposition that Kikyou is Midorikoâs reincarnation, which it seems like the ladies in this podcast agree with now ;) thanks guys).
That doesnât mean that Japan was devoid of the notion that celibacy = holiness. Many Buddhist teachings emphasize that ridding oneself of âearthlyâ desires is how nirvana can be achieved. This means abstaining from anything that gives people pleasure: food, sleep, sex, music, poetry, etc (and you can see why people joke that Miroku is a terrible monk). There are some pretty hardcore practices that exist in Buddhism. My prof spent 13 years on a Japanese monastery and he told me that every night, he was allowed only 2 hours of sleep. That doesnât mean that all Buddhist monks adhered to such strict practices. The expectations of what a monk must do would change from what sect of Buddhism he practiced to where in Japan he lived to the degree at which he wanted to do it. Â
As Robin said, there were sects of Buddhism where drinking/sex was totally no issue. An interesting sidenote: since the beginning of history in Japan, rice was considered venerable. If you head over to a Shinto or Buddhist shrine, there are often barrels of fermenting rice for sake!! 100% there were tons of monks who got drunk and considered it a way of being closer to the kami (gods/spirits).
(Me at the Meiji Shrine near Harajuku, impressed by alcohol)
For miko, many texts indicate that itâs necessary to be a virgin in order to become a shrine maiden, but once one becomes a miko she can marry. It would actually be expected that miko/Shinto priests tie the knot so the spiritual traditions can pass on to the future generation.Â
The exact rules and practices really depend on which sect/where in Japan one is!Â
