Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing Are Not Above Correction
Being a pastor does not make someone immune from biblical examination or rebuke.
Jesus Himself warned:
“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”
Matthew 7:15, KJV
Doug Wilson has publicly defended deeply troubling descriptions of American slavery. His own website reproduces material from Southern Slavery As It Was describing slavery in the South as involving “mutual affection and confidence” and extraordinary racial “harmony,” although Wilson later acknowledged that the booklet did not sufficiently emphasize the horrific abuses of the system. He has also continued arguing against the individual voting framework created by the 19th Amendment, advocating instead for political representation centered on households.
Christians do not have to remain silent simply because someone carries the title pastor.
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God.”
1 John 4:1, KJV
What especially stands out in the clip is Wilson’s response when confronted about Jesus caring for the poor and marginalized. He replied with a political joke about socialism.
But Jesus Christ is not a mascot for capitalism, socialism, MAGA, Christian nationalism, or any other political ideology.
Jesus fed the hungry because He had compassion.
Jesus healed the sick.
Jesus welcomed the stranger.
Jesus preached repentance and the Kingdom of God.
Jesus gave His life for sinners.
Turning the miracle of feeding hungry people into a culture-war punchline misses the point.
The Church's mission is not to conquer America through political power or turn Christianity into an arm of the state. Our message is Jesus Christ crucified and risen.
“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”
1 Corinthians 2:2, KJV
Test every preacher. Test every politician. Test every movement.
And when Christianity becomes centered on nationalism, political domination, patriarchy, culture-war power, or loyalty to earthly rulers, mark the difference between that message and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Doug Wilson is Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s pastor, and he preached at a Christian worship service at the Pentagon in February. Journalist Wajahat Ali absolutely eviscerates him.
MAGA conservative Josh Hawley is preaching a message centered on taking political and cultural ground in the name of Christianity.
Hawley said that Christians should “reclaim the Lordship of Christ over every aspect of our society,” including government, education, the workplace, industry, families, and commerce. He also spoke about a generation being anointed to “take ground for the Lord.”
But Jesus did not command His Church to conquer the institutions of America. He commanded us to preach the Gospel and make disciples.
“My kingdom is not of this world.” John 18:36, KJV
Jesus Christ is already Lord. He does not need the Republican Party, MAGA, government control, or American cultural dominance to establish His Lordship.
The apostles did not try to capture Rome, take over Caesar’s government, or force Christianity upon society. They preached Christ crucified and risen.

Beware when Christianity is transformed from following Christ into taking political territory.
“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” Matthew 7:15, KJV
This is why I believe Josh Hawley should be marked and avoided as a wolf in sheep’s clothing and a deceitful worker. He is promoting a different gospel centered on conservative politics, American traditions, nationalism, political power, and culture wars.
That is not the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for sinners. We are called to make disciples, not build a Christian empire.

Wayne Allyn Root Is Pointing People Toward Political Power, Not Jesus Christ
Wayne Allyn Root recently urged Donald Trump to declare a national security emergency before the midterm elections to pursue voter ID, proof of citizenship, and restrictions on mail-in voting.
Trump responded, “Stranger things have happened. I’ll leave it at that.”
But Christians should remember Wayne Allyn Root’s history of extreme praise for Trump.
In 2019, Root wrote that Jewish people in Israel loved Trump like the “King of Israel” and “the second coming of God.” Trump repeated Root’s comments and thanked him. Later that same day, while speaking about his trade dispute with China, Trump looked toward the sky and declared, “I am the chosen one.”
Whether Trump later described the remark as joking or sarcastic does not change the need for Christian discernment.
Jesus Christ is the true King and God’s Chosen One. Those titles do not belong to Donald Trump or any politician.
Jesus warned: “Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” Matthew 24:4-5, KJV
Scripture also warns about “false apostles, deceitful workers.”2 Corinthians 11:13, KJV
Wayne Allyn Root’s political exaltation of Trump should not be confused with the Gospel. Christians are not commanded to put their hope in presidents, emergency powers, elections, political movements, or promises to save America.
“Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.” Psalm 146:3, KJV
Jesus Christ alone is King. Jesus Christ alone is Savior. Test everything by Scripture.
