Quick facts

Irish mother, American father, she’s a lobbyist and Hazel has no clue what her father does because she doesn’t have the security clearance. Grew up in DC.

Mother is a Gilchrist alumni and Gravedigger, which is why Hazel picked Gilchrist herself

Med school at Johns Hopkins, currently a cardiothoracic surgeon at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Charlotte NC

2 months before the letters came out, a wealthy patient died on the table, it is currently unable to be determined if it was malpractice or not but the family is suing to blame her. Getting out of town on a “sabbatical” is just what she needs right now.

Personality

Type A to the max, lives her life on a strict schedule and it’s one of those annoying “up at 5AM, yoga, jog, and a smoothie before 7″ kind of things. Yes, she thinks she’s better than everybody else because of it, but in a nice way.

Good bedside manner, and that translates to real life really well when there’s little to nothing bad going on or if she feels in control of the situation. If you’re hanging out at the pool she’s friendly and happy to hear all about your kids, cat, or career. If there is even the slightest bit of pressure she assumes you’re out to stab her in the back, or at least that you would if it would benefit you.

She’s aware that people don’t like it when you’re condescending, so she tries to stop, but multiple exes have told her that it still comes out in full force during arguments.

Contrary to popular opinion, she’s a good friend and would give up a kidney for the people she cares about, it’s just hard for most people to get through the prickly exterior to the gooey center so most of her acquaintances are just for cocktail parties and wedding registries

Bestie - Anyone around her graduating class, they’ve been friends since college and probably roomed together on at least one occasion. Ride or die, totally comfortable giving each other shit, Hazel is an only child and this is the closest thing she has to a sibling.

Ex/Ex-Hookup - Anyone around her  ge/graduating class, or over the age of 26-ish. Met either in school or through a mutual gravedigger, and engaged in a torrid affair. Maybe it flamed out quickly, maybe they were talking about real commitment, but something threw a wrench in and it went down like the Hindenberg. She prayed they wouldn’t show up, but the universe is forever coming up with new and exciting ways to screw her over.

Professional Acquaintances - Anyone in a medical or medical adjacent field, in such a small group as the Gravediggers they’d almost certainly know each other and since Hazel doesn’t have much life outside of work the opportunity to connect with people over her career is one she takes when she can get. Maybe a mentor or mentee, or maybe even a coworker who she recommended or recommended her to the hospital
