Covid-19 Diary 6
Masks and disinfectant sit near the door so that my family doesn’t forget to be prepared when the leave and to clean themselves when returning.
A sign I saw when leaving my girlfriend’s parent’s home on the outside of town. These little reminders help stay motivated.
Took the professor’s advice in showing more people in my photos. Heres a self portrait of me in bed, trying to drown out the news constantly talking about Covid-19 with new found music.
Since barbershops are closed, I had to resort to getting a haircut from my girlfriend’s mom. Tried going for a real home scene. I locked the camera settings & directed as my girlfriend took pictures of the haircut.
Her mom thought this would make for a silly picture, hard to not crack a smile.
Covid-19 Diary 5
Drove up to Millerton for a photoshoot with my girlfriend and saw the casino closed down with an empty parking lot, couldn’t imagine another time it’ll be closed.
Decided I wanted to go for a more elegant feeling. We were aiming for some of the photos to feel like a “senior picture” session but with the added twist of the medical mask. These next pictures are the others from the same session<3

This photographer’s name is Annie Leibovitz and is one of my idol photographers. She is most known for documenting countless celebrities in important times of their life. She went on tour with the Rolling Stones. her early career work was spent documenting the crazy lives of band members and much of the current political dismay at hand. She is currently more occupied with dream like celebrity portraiture. Her level of stage design is beyond comparison and I hope to one day reach that same level of professionalism. All the while she has been reported to shoot these photos on film. :)

The German artist Tarek Mawad is best known for his portraiture. His work consists of mostly women with projected images onto their figure, looking like something out of the Matrix or Blade Runner. His work resembles something you would see out of a movie, the way his colors are saturated and the fluid movement of the subject combines well. A sense of storytelling is something I hope to implement into my own photography. I love the style of high saturation mixed with sensual subjects. production design is something I also hope to improve, putting more thought into not only my subject, but the background what kind of message I am trying to send.

Covid-19 Diary 4
This is my favorite picture of this collection. I drove by and asked the man sitting in the chair if I could get a picture of him and his sign. He was a kind man, saying he would prefer not to be photographed but had no problem with me taking a picture of his sign. So behold, the sign and the man’s chair.
A big banner in front a Clovis Community medical building. I was hoping to see a line of people but no one was around.
My mom decided to stock up on animal food for our cat and dog. I had to take a picture at what seemed to be an enormous amount of food that should last them quite awhile.
During this Covid-19 thing, food delivery companies have made it a requirement that all delivery drivers wear gloves while on the job.
A sight I have never seen, Gb3 with an empty parking lot and not a soul in sight. Im sure everyone has either given up on their summer bodies or are learning to work out at home.
An interior shot of Gb3, feels like a ghost town smelling of sweat.
Snapped a shot at the front of Maya Cinema, a sad sight to see the box office displaying no movie times.
A local elementary school with signs made by the teachers that were put up to remind their students that they are loved.
Drove by Clovis Community Hospital and saw this sign blocking off the visitor parking lot reading “COVID 19 NO VISITORS”.
Had to take a picture of this handsome lad, a mannequin thats making sure to represent the stores goods while keeping a 6ft distance and wearing his mask.

It's not just fashion photography, it's the visual story of how nature liberates humans with obscure emotions. Min Hyunwoo's artistic intuition at the moment is emerging as a fashion photographer based in Seoul, Korea, is depicting his work to be, as beautifully as he puts it, "a little boy who goes through the whole forest with a wooden stick." His photos are taken on an Rz67, a medium format film camera. His use of nature mixed with intimate fashion inspires me to shoot more on my film camera. He gives a lot of credit to his team that helps him coordinate each and every photoshoot. It brings more respect to my eyes that the outcome of the photo is made possible by all the work and people we don’t see. I hope to pull inspiration from Min in his ability to capture elegance in a natural environment, all the while shooting film.

Covid-19 Diary 3
Here is a photo of a park near my house that has been blocked off with caution tape to prevent anyone from climbing on it.
Another photo of the playground but from a different angle, shooting towards the sun now.
Went to Jamba Juice and they only allow one person per party. Then they had these squares that were 6ft apart for the customers to stand in while they waited in line.
On my daily walk, this disposable mask under a cars tire caught my eye.
Took a quick grocery trip to Vons. Their card scanners had been wrapped up to try and help prevent the spread of germs.
Local taco trucks are still in business, thankfully. They had cones set up for the customers to maintain the 6ft distance. Make sure to support local restaurants if you can during this time.
A photo of the Habit Grill with signs on their door stating that only take-out is an option.
In the Vons parking lot, they had designated areas for you to throw away your masks and gloves once you were done shopping.
At Pokiland, their normal dining area was covered in these signs stating you were not allowed to stay and sit, you must leave with your food.
An interior shot of House of Juju, no customers in sight just their pick-up orders left on the table.

From fence hopping and skateboarding, to the minimalistic approach of scenes, Jared Thelander is someone to look out for. When it comes to color photos, he leans towards a more flat feeling, with reduced shadows & highlights. His B&W photography lends itself to a more raw subject with harsh contrast and a taste of minimalism. A great photographer and even better friend.

Covid-19 Diary 2
Words of encouragement at the theater on Fulton Street.
Here is a picture of my favorite spot to get wings. I am deeply saddened that they are shut down during this pandemic. My search for good wings continues.
A house located behind the new Costco. Definitely caught my attention alongside the sign asking to end abortion.
Decided to take some photos implementing the use of gloves and their purpose in all of this mess.
Here is photo of my local skatepark, Rotary, with no one in sight.
A photo of my girlfriend and I, making sure to keep the germs out!
I saw someone smoking a cigarette with a glove on while out on a drive. Decided to try and recreate the scene.
An abandoned glove down the street from my house. Spotted it on my daily walk.
Inspiration for this photo came from the painting “The Creation of Adam”. Thought it was appropriate for the lockdown.
An almost comedic approach to staying sanitary. Making sure to constantly wash my hands and disinfect areas of my house.

Brooke DiDonato is a visual artist from Ohio living in New York. Her work illustrates the subconscious, creating compositions that blend the ordinary with the uncanny. Tinged by Surrealism, she portrays an ever changing state of reality and her imagination. The way she creatively composes her photos really caught my eye.

For Parisian photographer Lou Escobar, photography started as a way to kill time while waiting for a work visa in the US. What attracted me to Lou’s photos was the lovely use of saturated colors and candid scenery. Her photos can be said to have a “film-like” quality. The 32-year-old photographer had the urge to travel at an early age. Growing up a “hyperactive little girl” in Saclas, a “very small town” near Paris, she first started by exploring Europe with her Spanish father and French-Algerian mother. She takes pride in being a female photographer, making sure that her viewers are aware of this.

Covid-19 Diary 1
This was a tent set up outside of Saint Agnes medical center for those showing respiratory issues.
Went to a total of 4 different locations in search of toilet paper, still on the hunt.
If you take a drive on any of the freeways, there are multiple signs reminding you to take precaution.
Drove by my old high school during the week to see the empty parking lots and no students.
Went shopping at Costco, found a line of people with masks. Costco was allowing only a certain number of people in at a time.
Pasta is one of the many items people are turning to stocking up on. I was surprised to see this much still left.
Drove past my old elementary school to see the sign showing the closing dates.
Dog House showing all of their chairs put up. Like many other restaurants, you are only able to order take out.
Crazy seeing there be a limit of cans a person can buy at our local grocery store.
The bowling alley with an empty parking lot on a Friday night.

These photos are by french photographer Alexandre Souêtre. He tends to take monochromatic scenes with flattened shadows and highlights. He isn’t tied to one certain subject, be it moving image, portraits, still lifes, landscapes, or fashion shots. Alexandre consistantly has a mysterious feel to his photos. I hope to pull inspiration from him in my future work, an idol.
