Client Stories: Portraits of Hope
Seeing the Humanity Behind Homelessness
A Photo Series by Don Sherrill
While every individual's story is different, addiction and mental illness are two of the most common reasons people become homeless. These disorders, which often co-occur, can quickly cause someone to lose his or her job, support system, and ultimately his or her home.
The individuals portrayed below - and thousands like them - have experienced homelessness and faced challenges that are hardly imaginable to most of us. They could have easily lived the remainder of their lives on the edges of society, unnoticed by most. But they found their way to Eva's Village - and this is where their hope began.
The 'Portraits of Hope' series was featured at our Gala on November 3, 2016, and each individual had an opportunity to speak and share their personal story with our guests. We would like to thank photographer Don Sherrill, and our good friend Dan Renaldo, for their tireless efforts and dedication to creating this series.
