Lady Mipha

“No! I will not allow you to take her again!”

Ok- ouch. My poor heart. This was the first one I played, two player with my dad, and I am sad. I love Sidon to death and to let him have the ability to save Mipha when he grew up in the shadow of her death? By Hylia herself, I’m so excited.

He had insisted on going alone. It wasn’t necessarily a sound decision, but when news reached Zelda in Kakariko, Link had only left a note behind. Because even though he didn’t know everything that had once been, something in him still knew that he had to see her by himself. He’d heard her voice in his mind for so long. He’d read her diary when he knew she shouldn’t, and he’d kept the tunic she had made–

Mipha was back. Recovering, no doubt surrounded by her family and an entire kingdom of concerned Zora, but she was alive once again. And of all the champions who had fallen, Link felt like he owed Mipha the most.

Though he didn’t really know all of what that debt was.

He had hoped to arrive in relative quiet to Zora’s Domain, but that was niave of him. Once his horse was spotted on the horizon, the Zora had spread word and he’d been met with what could be described as a small amount of fanfare. So it was in a cloud of whispers and expectations that he’d come to stand before her now.

She looked so weak… her body was too thin and her color was a bit dull. But she was alive… she wasn’t a specter.

A smile flickered at the corner of his lips. There were Zora all around and their voices had become an unintelligible buzz in his ears.

And then she found herself awakening inside Vah Ruta, at the main panel where her last breath had been taken. Initially she was numb as though her life were still infusing once more. Then it hit her, a strong surge of pain. The scar from where her death blow was struck had pulsated in excruciating pain, imitating the pain she felt before passing. Her whole body felt as though it were being stabbed with needles and small knives. A cry of pain had escaped her, echoing through Ruta before the world faded from her once more. 

How cruel this rebirth had been. She had to endure the pain of death twice. And yet, her eyes had fluttered open once more. Her younger brother and father had been at her side the entire time, waiting with bated breath to see if she truly was awake. In the coming days, Mipha learned how Sidon had been inspecting Ruta when he heard her screams. How they saw the single large scar from the battle and yet no open wounds or further wounds. He told her many tales of how things had changed, how he had helped Link and just how great Link was. She couldn’t help but wonder what happened to Link after she faded from the world. Hopefully he was safe and happy... without her. Perhaps it would be best he not know immediately of her return... just in case it wasn’t permanent. 

As the tales ended, Sidon told her people were waiting for her. She wanted to protest that they should not go to huge lengths for her when Sidon suddenly scooped her up and carried her from the throne room to find a sort of ceremony in her honor going on. The cheers and calls from the Zora, their exuberant joy at seeing their princess once more, brought tears and a smile to Mipha’s face. It was almost too much for her. 

As her mouth opened to speak, golden hair caught her attention. Could it be? Before she could wonder further, she spotted the hand go up in a gentle wave. It was him, wasn’t it? Face softened as she slowly raised a hand to wave at him. She was silent, uncertain how to even speak to him. Heart fluttered in her chest, just the sight of him made her feel more alive than anything else. But... she remembered from watching over him during his travels he had lost his memories, so did he even properly remember her?? What could she even say to him? 

As Sidon set her down on a seat, only too eager to get everything for her ceremony together, her eyes would flutter back to the Hylian once more. It was hard to think of what to say, or how to call him over. After a moment, she took a breath and smiled softly once more.
