idk I can tell that some tumblrinas are not up on fat politics because I see a lot of people saying stuff like “it’s better to be a little fat than waste your life trying to be thin” or like “it’s chic to have a little belly” like okay but there are fat people who are “a lot fat” and have “a lot of belly” which everyone is weirdly silent on all the time. Like the fattest person on earth still deserves to exist in human society with joy and dignity regardless of how they got to that weight or how many health conditions they have as a result of their personal actions…that should be everyone’s baseline here I’m not really sure what’s complicated about it

additionally even if i was "a little" fat I DONT WANT TO BE CHIC I WANT MEDICAL CARE AND PLANE SEATS THAT FIT ME YOU DUMB FUCKS 😭 like ohhh you think curvy girls with a little belly are oh so hot? first of all if you saw the fat people i want to fuck you would kill yourselves but more importantly, there is genuine discrimination. people are getting hurt. people are dying. people are starving their children so they dont *become* fat. get on board with real fat liberation. like clothes that fit would be nice too but can we stop killing people with medical neglect or hate crimes as well? pls?

"representation matters!" but you wont read or engage with non-fiction works about any demographic outside your own

this version of the post doesnt seem to be getting much traction but this is arguably the most important reason why we should be reading nonfiction in addition to fiction

The thing is too I understand on a fundamental level that we will likely never be able to stop people from playing extremely dangerous sports like american football because humans are abysmal at risk assessment and anticipating the future, so what we have to do is make it safer, but right now we can't figure out how to make it safer so we need to be very open and honest about how everyone who chooses to play it is choosing to dramatically shorten their lives and worsen the quality of their remaining life when they do. Little boys deserve to be told what football can do to them just like all athletes deserve to be clear-eyed and making informed decisions about the risk they're taking by playing their chosen sport. If we can't actually stop people and we can't make it safer than we should not pretend it's safe and lie to players about the danger they're in and what will happen to them because of it.

I may be stupid but in what scenario does knowing someone's assigned sex at birth (or even just their sex in general) matter like at all (outside of helping them through the already corrupt sex based system). you can say "people with penises" you can say "people with vaginas" you can say "people with mostly testosterone in their bodies" you can say "people with mostly estrogen in their bodies" and so many more, and not only are these more inclusive but they're more likely to actually get you the care you need if it's specific to one of these characteristics. if your documents say "male" but you need vagina specific treatment then how is that sex marker helping anyone because I guarantee the doctor will assume you have a penis

the situation with harry potter is kind of unprecedented in some ways imo because it is maybe the largest media franchise in history to be created & owned by a single person who still has direct creative control over it. who is also a billionaire with significant cultural/political influence. like the usual "no ethical consumption under capitalism" type excuses shatter on impact when the bigoted author in question is logging onto twitter every day saying explicitly that when you buy the tim hortons ravenclaw donut she is using your donut money to fund the genocide of trans people. like with big franchises usually there's at least a little more diffusion of responsibility than this

Forever thinking about how one of my official diagnosis is "unspecified psychotic disorder". And thinking even more about how I used to be so distraught about it as in, something was clearly wrong but nobody could give me a "right" answer of what was wrong. Sorry you're indeed psychotic. You're just built that way.

I have a lot of thoughts about this topic at large but really they all sum up to: I think a lot of people would be happier if they put less importance on the labels they get attached and more on what they could do to make their situation better. Like I don't have ocd officially diagnosed, but I still take ocd meds. Meds for my obsessions. But I don't have ocd according to my psychiatrist. And you know what? I think that's awesome. Because at the end of the day I get to take my meds regardless and they make me not wanna fucking die so that's that
