Been an active day/night in SoCal! You can see the Post Fire start and grow large, and a second fire blossom to the east of it later.
The Post Fire in LA County. You can see the heat signature and growth with GOES 18 West. The fire is currently mapped at 2,013 acres with FIRIS.

I've been assigned to the Maui incident in Mass Care/Reunification.
It's way outside of my comfort zone, but it's what they need and I'm willing to grow my skill set to help those who need it.
I have the GAP/training but I took those courses in 2018 and never put it to use, so I'm brushing up and giving it my all!

Monitoring the major fires in Riverside County, CA using the GOES 18 satellite
At DisasterGIS we’ve been hard at work responding with our various partners, but at the same time, we always try and make time and encourage others to block out some time for training. In the last 3 years, our members have sat in over 450 virtual courses taught around the globe, from Finland to Guam, the United States and beyond.
A key focus for our training is on Emergency Management courses that teach each phase of the disaster cycle: preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery so that we can help create products that inform sound decisions. Â

The #FairviewFire in Riverside County California has been showcasing some extreme fire behavior and explosive growth. This map combines both VIIRS imagery for smoke and fire on 09/07 and the live GOES West heat for 09/08. Included is an inset with the current evacuation orders and warning zones, with both open shelters marked. #RemoteSensing #GIS

Taking a NASA arset course on remote sensing and mapping fires
Before and after the Hunga Tonga–Hunga HaÊ»apai eruption using Sentinel-1 satellite imagery. Very little landmass above water exists anymore and all of Tonga is like a moonscape with hazardous ash covering it.Â
Fresh water is their main concern right now as more and more information is starting to come from the area.
Another eruption has just occurred (2022-01-16) but appears to be smaller in size
CO Marshall Fire - Damage Assessment
Remote damage assessment of affected areas involves using a lot of GIS and remote sensing tools.
 I've been working with multiple VOADs to assist them with their efforts in Colorado, and here you can see an ESRI Aerial imagery layer from before the incident, a MAXAR satellite image in the infrared bands during the incident, and GIC aerial imagery post-incident.
