My current nautical read is Where The Dead Wait by Ally Wilkes. Iβm enjoying it a lot, but itβs also kind of funny as an enjoyer of polar exploration non-fiction to be reading along, taking in the various trials and ordeals she puts her characters through, and going, βokay, Jeannette, Lady Franklin Bay, Lost Franklin Expedition, not sure Iβve heard of this thing happening historically but it reminds me of something from The Terror (2018)β¦β
Which brings me to the fact that Ally Wilkes has definitely watched The Terror. (If you had any doubts, she was a guest on an episode of @castinglotspod.) Not only has she watched The Terror, but I can tell who her favorite character is.
Youβre telling me Jesse Stevens is a beautiful queer man with a pointy nose and a red beard and pale eyes; alternately described as being angelic and animalistic, and heβs the one who does all the unsavory but necessary things that shock other members of the shipβs company? Huh, thatβs interesting. I wonder who Ally Wilkes could possibly have had in mindβ¦
