MAINS/EXCLUSIVES & Major Canon Divergences under the cut
Currently I'm still undecided on how connected to the fandom and series canon that I wish to be, so I'll simply be on the lookout for upcoming developments before making a decision. As it stands, my interpretation of alastor and how I write him will not change to fit canon unless something happens that meshes well with what I already have.
Major Canon Divergences (outside of anything to do with Angel Dust specifically)
My Alastor also does not look specifically like canon Alastor anymore, and I do have a reference sheet for him here.
My Alastor was not missing for 7 years; there was a brief point in time after his clash with Vox where Alastor left for a year or two max to investigate the nature of whatever being is holding his contract. His power had been forcefully bottlenecked and weakened during the confrontation and he retreated before he could have been killed.
My Alastor's contract is not a literal leash, rather it is a debt of souls that he is required to pay off to earn his freedom back; at least this is what he has been convinced of. This can visually manifest as the neon green glowing stitching that sometimes appears or by the same glowing strings hanging from his limbs. He's like a puppet.
The initial way he was collecting souls was as a Crossroads demon, but when they turned out to be too slow of a method he turned to clawing his way through the Overlords.
As far as Husk is concerned, Alastor largely leaves him to his own devices and only calls on him when he is cashing in a "favor" (such as helping out at the hotel with him). The actual leash is not something that is bound to Alastor directly but rather to the being holding HIS contract; Alastor does not directly own Husk's soul but Husk sure thinks that he does. Alastor is obnoxious and controlling and tends to use his reputation to get his way, but he is not outright abusive; it's all hollow threats.
He does not have the same posturing vitriol toward Lucifer as he does in canon; it's more a mild disdain stemming from his distaste for what he sees as "poor father figures"; he'd be much easier to win over than canon Alastor, but it's purely based on how Lucifer interacts with him.
Regardless of how Vox feels about Alastor NOW, when they first met and early on in their interactions Alastor was genuinely quite fond of him; one of the main reasons he's so bitter is because he felt that by evolving with the times and new technological advances, Vox was effectively leaving him behind and didn't need him anymore. Vox partnering with Valentino, someone he despises and would have absolutely been a target of his during his serial killer days, is just an additional spit in the face.
Alastor wants to tear off Val's wings and give them to Niffty for her collection.
The reason Alastor does not sleep often is because whatever ancient being is screwing with him will invade his nightmares, and he evades this by just. Not sleeping. Until he collapses. He is afraid.
UPDATE | As for the being that is holding Alastor's soul, I've come to the decision that it is Malvada, an ancient eldritch chaos being who, in Alastor's original Zoophobia canon, was Alastor's true father who abandoned Alastor in the wilds as a child simply because he did not want him. It fits in with his disdain for abusive or absentee father figures, though Alastor does not know for certain his connection to Malvada other than the creature was manipulating him through words and music, leading him down the road to becoming a killer and collector of souls. Along with being the creature that owns Alastor in one form or another, he is in fact Alastor's father/creator. He was raised as a human by a woman that found him abandoned in the woods, but he is not in fact human.

I should elaborate. I have a large roll-out memory foam futon mattress (Americanized Japanese-style I guess) that I have to crash on when I have guests since I dont have a spare room (I take the livingroom floor). I take it out of storage and unroll it for a bit once in a while to make sure no spiders are nesting, no smells (it's humid as fuck here year round). It's very comfy lol
I'm going to be opening a few slots for simple soft cel-shaded skeb commissions at a temporary discount of $25 (down from $35) with reduced pricing for add-ons as well, with the stipulation that any commission requests MUST be of characters or OCs that have existing artwork for them as references. I want these to be done on a very quick turn-around schedule, and having to design OCs from references is not something I can do in a timely fashion. I had to turn down several requests during my last skeb run due to the requests being for OCs that only had a paragraph description or pinterest board for inspiration, and design services are not included in the lower skeb pricing.
If you're unfamiliar with Skeb commissions, the short of it is that you give the artist a character (canon or an oc) and maybe a pose or vibe you're looking for, then the artist will draw it as they see fit without sending any work-in-progress sketches and there is no communication with the artist until it is completed. There are little to no edits/corrections after the fact as well. It's very much a "trust the process" type of commission, where sometimes the artist will experiment with art styles or painting styles. These will largely be waist-up flat-color images of 1 to 2 characters with a simple color or pattern background, at 800px x 800px to 800px x 1080px. If requesting a full-body image of one or more characters, please include pose references, or at the very least let me know the relationship between the characters for the overall vibe.
If you're wanting this for a specific type of image, such as a profile picture, twitter/tumblr banner, or anything that requires specific size ratios, please let me know when submitting your request and/or character references.

The listing is up on my ko-fi and it won't be fully shaded/highlighted, it will only have simple gradients for the hair and softened cel-shading for a bit of depth. Example would be like how I color my screenshot paint-overs, just no background or a simple color/gradient background.

Alternatively I do offer other services, such as cleaned-up sketches, black and white unshaded or greyscale-shaded lineart, fully rendered illustrations, emotes, as well as character designs and reference sheets (and in the case of fandoms, character redesigns and reference sheets). The turnaround times for most of these services are longer and the pricing is higher, of course, as they are more involved and I do work a soul-crushing retail job at odd evening hours for the majority of the week. I am thinking of adding a rush fee option should it be something that requires a specific deadline, but I will only be accepting those sparingly and they won't be offered in the initial commission order.

People who write Alastor really need to know there WERE actual prototype televisions in the 1930s. Also there was *gasp* electricity. And movie theaters. And cars. Alastor probably knows how to drive. There were cameras and, additional gasp, there were film cameras! AND WAYS TO EDIT THE FILMS! I see too many people just flabberghasted at the idea that Alastor was the one filming and editing the commercial and doing post-filming audio recording and overlay.
It wasn't JUST radio by candlelight. It was the 1930s, not the 1890s. The number of people I see writing Alastor or fics for Alastor as if he was an adult and operating as a killer in a Victorian-era New Orleans is weirdly...a lot. It's a lot.
Television would have grown up more or less alongside radio, and if Alastor was smart he would have kept up with developments in entertainment media even if he didn't plan on implementing them into his career.
I just saw someone on twitter acting like it was INSANE that Alastor knows how to operate a television in season 1 episode 1, much less a video camera. Just because he has a distaste for the new tech and doesn't use it in his particular entertainment niche, it doesn't make him an inept idiot.
