My old dip pen broke and I finally got a new one in a few days ago. It writes really well but above all its able to write for quite a while before needing a re-dip.

Pictured is a sigil I designed for myself. Its a combination of the sigil for Cassiel and the symbol for Venus. Not religious, but witchy stuff never ceases to fascinate me.

Hi everyone

Recently I’ve started a YouTube channel, Unfortunately Alice, for a myriad of reasons but mostly because I like talking and pretending I have good opinions.

The purpose of this channel is...undetermined as of now. I know for sure that to some degree its going to be about political commentary of some sort, as I feel like sharing opinions and starting a discussion in the modern day is very important. Notably I’d like to discuss LGBT issues with an emphasis on trans healthcare and trans issues as I myself am a transwoman and feel my opinions on a lot of subjects within our community tend to stray a bit away from popular beliefs.

Furthermore, I plan to use this platform to mark progress on my most recent programming projects, Rainbowchat. This chat is marketed towards those who value privacy, and its peer to peer whilst being entirely encrypted. I’m making the whole thing in Golang (potentially Rust later on for crypto stuff), and plan to have a Github repo up soon for it. The channel itself will focus on this as its my most recent project but of course I’ll post any newer projects. I’ll also be talking about my mathematics work which I’m currently involved in along with some professors at Mississippi State University.

I also like playing chess, so at least the background visuals will be that of Bullet games. To some extent I’ll be logging my transition here, really I hope to just sort of keep a record of my life. I like doing things like that as it really gives me something to look back on.

A fantastic YouTuber, StormRyan, has a friend who is battling a very aggressive and serious form of Uterine Cancer. 

Living in the United States of course presents a unique myriad of problems to battling this disease, and as such the help of donations is needed to help support this person in these trying times.

I’m sure Ryan also plans to donate substantial amounts of other videos towards his friend, so watching their other videos is much appreciated, with emphasis on watching and interacting with all ads to generate as much money as possible.

Sorry I haven’t posted anything about the symposium, it went really well!

This Friday and Saturday I’ll be presenting at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science on the paper I’ve been working on for the past few months with a professor at Mississippi State University.

The paper discusses a class of algorithms often used in computer science called “Backoff Algorithms”, in respect to this paper they have to do with wireless collisions. Backoff algorithms are used to prevent wireless collision, through random selection of time-slots for computers to resend collided packets. Its all really interesting, actually.

Our paper shows that common algorithms found in this class of problems can be simplified drastically, and guaranteed with high probability to work well or not so well using a mathematical formula called a “Chernoff Bound”. The implications of this work are the simplification of future algorithms using the Lemmas we provide. Maybe using these mathematical tools, we could even discover a more efficient algorithm! Who knows.

The paper itself is being submitted to The Symposium on Simplification of Algorithms (SOSA), sometime this summer, and hopefully we’ll get to show it off in Salt Lake City provide everything goes well.
