One of the good parts about him is he knows that the world is dark and cruel but he chooses to see past this and remain idealistic aka wanting to help others (which does lead to some naivety - at least that’s how people see him). He doesn’t see the world in black and white. This is where Johan comes in, with his past filled with terror and despair; Jan will want to save him, become his grand savior and help Johan achieve peace within himself. Some romantic feelings may be involved but I think he’d push those aside to show Johan that he can be redeemed if he tried, that life has meaning. However now Suk has to decide if he’s willing to betray the law, his oaths, his moral code while arresting people who do the same. The answer is he chooses to turn a blind eye when it comes to Johan and his past self - the person he was before his coma never thought that he’d get a third chance at life. while Suk already went against corruption in the police force he feels a little corrupt himself. His own injustice worries him. He has many mixed feelings when it comes to johan who has fooled him before and could do it again - that is why he has hope (his idealism) that johan will redeem himself and not go down that path of destruction again.
