“It is so good to be back in Georgia! So I was, um, I know I’m supposed to play it cool and stuff and be like its kind of good to see you but ive been counting down to these shows, to these two in Atlanta, yeah, and I was thinking about it, and I was going back and thinking of how many times I’ve played here and how many times I’ve played in this area, in Atlanta, and in the last 15 years, 13-15 years, I’ve played in this area 13 times, this is my 13th show! That’s my lucky number, I’m very subtle about that being my lucky number. But yeah, I’ve been writing songs since I was 12 years old, and the reason why I loved to write songs when I was younger, and now, it has remained the same throughout this whole process, I would write songs bc I would be feeling something intense, imagine that, and whether it was like feeling confused about something or feeling extremely happy and just not knowing what to do with all this emotion, or feeling left out, or feeling insecure, or whatever, I was feeling heartbroken - heartbroken at 12, you know - I would write songs because it made me feel like I could somehow communicate those things. And not that I really had many people to listen to them except my parents but I would just dream about having a song to write about how I was feeling in a moment of extreme loneliness, and what it would be like to play it for a crowd, and how insane it would be if the crowd actually knew the words to that song. And I think that one thing that’s safe to say that probably everyone in this stadium has in common is we all love the feeling of connection, of feeling like someone is saying, ‘yeah I feel exactly how you feel,’ or ‘I’ve been through that too,’ or, ‘Yes, I want to be your friend, or ‘yeah I want to hang out,’ or just someone dancing with you or smiling at you, its the best feeling that someone sees you or gets you or acknowledges you. And I think that thinking a lot about the idea of a reputation […] the opposite of connection [….] you’re completely not involved in what people say about you behind your back. And if it feels like your reputation doesn’t match up with who you are, it can feel really lonely. And I think that it’s so awesome to be here ,and to have such a connection with you guys, I get to see every one of you, see you singing these words out to these songs I wrote when I was feeling something. And to be in this stadium where people are singing about feelings emotions, vulnerabilities at the top of our lungs, its kind of great because these things we’re all singing about, these emotions we’re all connecting to together, they’re sort of delicate emotions”
