What modest fashion Isn't
Well, not entirely. True, as a Christian, my clothing choices and dress styles are based on Bible principles and have to show that I am God-fearing. But you don't have to be religious to dress modestly.
Modest fashion is about dressing appropriately for the occasion or context.
Are you going to work in an office? Don't wear pyjamas. Going to the beach? Don't wear a suit. Going hiking? Don't wear high heels.
Modesty involves wearing the right outfits for the right place at the right time.
To dress modestly does not mean you have to look drab, old, or as Project Runway describes it, "matrionly".
Modest fashion can be very stylish.
It can include bright colours, patterns, pleats, gathers, embroidery, etc. But everything must be balanced. It does not need to be Comme Des Garçons OTT.
This is pretty obvious. Modest fashion is far from provocative. It's not sexually revealing, shocking, or attention-seeking. However, stemming from point 2, it does not have to look drab either.
Modest fashion is about balance.
It's about not drawing too much attention to yourself. That includes not making yourself look invisible, or making yourself look swallowed up by your garments at the same time.
No frumpy tops or dresses, no ripped jeans, no baggy trousers. Modest fashion does not look dirty either. It does not have stains, rips, or tears.
It is neat, tidy, and clean.
Modest fashion is also comfortable. It's not too tight nor too loose.It is just right.
In conclusion, modest fashion is about respect.
Respect for self and for others. Anybody can dress modestly. Religious or not.
