Pixel Buffy Progress Update!

If you've been following along on the journey so far I just want to say if you want the full Pixel Buffy experience join me over on Instagram. I incorporate music from the show and have several fun interactive stories and polls etc over there. I am also WAY further along there than I am here on Tumblr currently.

HOWEVER, I will continue to keep posting here as well! It's just taking me a bit longer to format and repost on Tumblr! I promise to catch up quickly! There's so much more to come.

1.02 - The Harvest - Moments

Giles isn’t wrong. Pretty sure the earth is doomed quite a bit over the course of this show. I love how the first two episodes come to a conclusion and this scene really summarizes exactly who these characters are, how they interact, and what you can expect from them moving forward. A great choice for “Pixel Buffy Moments”!

1.02 - The Harvest - The Scoobies

Willow! A classic look from Willow in a pair of overalls and a very rustic red sweater. Overalls will definitely make regular appearances throughout the show. Especially on Buffy. This look is also featured in one of the best scenes of the episode… in the computer lab with Harmony and Cordelia. It’s nice to see Willow get the upper hand.

1.02 - The Harvest - Monster of the Week

Oh, Luke. He had his moment. The first and second episode were basically just one long episode and I feel that Luke represents The Harvest’s primary MotW seeing as he’s the “Vessel”. He was a strong vampire that definitely gave Buffy a good fight. He’s clearly no match for her nor is he able to tell time. How did he think it was already sunrise? I don’t want to judge Luke too harshly (see what I did there? IYKYK) but he definitely wasn’t as sinister as the Master hyped him up to be. 

1.02 - The Harvest - Second Look

Sure it’s a simple white top and dark pants… however this is the outfit she dusts Luke in. Once again featuring that big ole cross! This outfit is iconic for making it into the intro sequence! It’s definitely a moment that stands out to viewers of the show and is absolutely worth highlighting. The tone of the show has been set after the conclusion of both Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest. It also establishes the pattern of intense season arc plot driven episodes followed by every day monster of the week episodes with the episodes to follow! 

1.02 - The Harvest

Even when she gets jumped in a cemetery the night before, Buffy manages to look flawless the next day at school. I’ve always been a fan of her hair in the early Season 1 and this simple black top and blue pants look is super sleek. Also how can we miss that GIANT cross on her neck? What iconic looks from Season One are you looking forward to?

Buffy clearly isn’t the only queen of Sunnydale. “What is your childhood trauma?!” Cordelia Chase reigns supreme in snark and quippy comebacks.  And she looks great in this blue dress! Also a cell phone? In the 90s? What an accessory! This is the first of many Pixel Buffy “Moments” - little snippets of the show that are so iconic and quotable that they get their own spotlight! And honestly it’s hard not to make them ALL Cordelia moments. She has so many. What memorable moments from the show would you like to see?

Angel. The original dark and broody yet dreamy vampire. Not to mention sparkly? Seriously, Angel… why is your coat SO SHINY? Go back and watch this episode. I did NOT remember his coat being so ridiculously shimmery. But at least he came bearing gifts. This whole first look of his has something incredibly old school 50s heartthrob about it… the black suit, VELVET blazer, the grin, the dark voluptuous hair, the slightly open white shirt. It’s almost like an elevated 90s spin on a 50s greaser heartthrob. Angel doesn’t deviate much from this very stylish clean and dark look throughout the first season and it clearly has a grip on one Buffy Summers.

Cordelia! I don’t think there’s a better high school Queen Bee than Cordelia Chase. She’s charming, fashion forward, clever, witty, unbothered, and can maybe be tad bit cruel. The effortlessness that Charisma Carpenter brings to the character of Cordy is superb. Cordelia is probably the only person who could pull off LIME GREEN pants while quizzing the new girl on *her* social standards and fashion choices. Cordelia Chase you will forever be iconic. Yet another of my absolute favorite characters to grace the Buffyverse.

Next up for a "Scoobies" edition is Giles! Buffy’s Watcher, father figure to the Scoobies, and world’s best librarian. It’s season one so of course he’s wearing a tweed suit. Honestly there are so very few times he’s NOT wearing a suit in the first 2-3 seasons of the show. Casual is definitely not his personality this early on and you can tell how buttoned up and professional he is as a character. He’s smart and quick to match the classic Buffy banter of not just her but the other Scoobies as well. There are far scarier things in Sunnydale than this group of witty teens and he’s just the guy you want to help.

Next up... Xander! Xander’s entire look is very “casual”. He’s geeky but wants to present as relatable. Aside from everyone else his outfit doesn’t stand out nearly as much but it does lay the foundation for how he views himself as “easy going”. Xander is a complicated character and his outfits are pretty simple. There aren’t too many that leap off the screen. Of course it’s incredibly heartbreaking to have lost another Buffy star and Nicholas Brendon played a pivotal part at the heart of the show. He brought a level of humor and levity to so many scenes of Buffy as well as to his fellow co-stars.

Nearly everything the cast is wearing in the first episode is burned into our brains - so let’s start the first “The Scoobies” edition with Willow! This modest green dress was so memorable it was even referenced later on in season four! I don’t care if Willow has seen the softer side of Sears or not… the styling in this episode very much establishes who these characters are. Willow is one of the most fascinating character arcs to watch over the course of the entire run of Buffy. Not only in her character’s growth but also her wardrobe and style. One of my favorite journeys in the entire show. We love you Willow.

Pixel Buffy “Monster of the Week” edition! Let’s start things off with the very first vampire we ever meet… Darla! And for this reason (and many more down the road) Darla gets the status of official MotW for the first episode. I know the Master is RIGHT THERE… but trust me. And besides the opening of the show in and of itself is iconic - we love a misdirect. Yes, Darla is a bit over the top in her eternal school girl outfit but it’s definitely memorable. She may not last long in season one but it definitely won’t be the last time we see her. Her history is too tied to a certain dark and broody vampire.

Now for a “Second Look” at episode one! Some outfits just scream “Buffy” and this is one of them. Every so often I’ll feature an additional iconic outfit from an episode. She wears this blue button down with a white tank underneath and dark pants to the Bronze and tells Willow to “seize the moment because tomorrow you might be dead”, she meets Angel wearing this while also performing one of the most memorable stunts from the show.

Starting where it all began… episode one! This is the first ever outfit we see Buffy in and those boots! Her love of knee high boots becomes abundantly clear over the course of season one. ✨it was the 90s✨ Buffy premiered on March 10th 1997 and is now a time capsule of every fashion trend during this era. You can’t get more iconic than our very first time meeting The Slayer. What other fashion moments from the first episode would you like to see?

Made another pixel parks art piece! This time a tribute to PizzeRizzo at Disney's Hollywood Studios 😭 It will be greatly missed. Disney World is losing a big chunk of the Muppets at the beginning of June. Should I do a tribute to Muppet*Vision 3D as well?
