Instead of being eight, Eva was killed when Dante and Vergil were just babies. And instead of killing them, Mundus has a different idea.

Eighteen years pass, and the boys are sent on a mission with one goal: Kill all the humans that have infiltrated the Underworld. However, things go wrong, and Vergil finds himself on an island that worships the very demon he's been taught to hate for all his life.
It's only luck that he gains a mysterious sword, and meets someone that'll help him understand that he's not who he was raised to be.

What Netflix DMC (and apparently some "fans") don't understand is demons are a warped reflection of humanity. They are immensely powerful, otherworldly being of supernatural who, despite their power, are incapable of love or compassion or human emotions and so hellbent on cruelty and destruction. Humans are nothing but prey and livestock to even to the weakest of demons.
It's why some humans go as far as sacrificing their humanity in order to become demons. The power that comes with being a demon is tantalizing to many.
And so it's why it's significant that a demon like Sparda surmount his nature and accepts humanity. Moved by compassion and love, he sacrifices his own power to protect people. He woke up to justice. He set a precedent, the first of his kind.
Devil May Cry does not frame demons and humans as "races". It's Netflix's failure to have gone there and all for the sake of a cheap offensive race analogy. It is also a basic element of Devil May Cry that can't be tampered with.
That's why the existence of "weak humanoid demons" is cheap and doesn't fit this franchise one bit.

I’m allowed to watch what I want. I never said I completely hated the ndmc anime—and hell even if I did, I could still watch it if I wanted to. I don’t watch HazHo or HeBo because I hate them for personal reasons, but the option to watch them is still there if I ever wanted. That’s freedom baby!!!

I looked at your profile; I too treat NDMC like an AU. Does that mean the au is good though? To me, no! This platform, along with every other, is not an echo chamber of just your opinions. In fact it’s healthy to hear folks out! Just like I did when I listened to my friend talk about the anime while she watched, and just how I looked at your profile before making this post.
Do I think harassing people for liking NDMC is wrong? Absolutely, don’t do that! If anything gently nudge them about playing/watching the games! But I’m not gonna keep my yapper shut just because you told me to. I like to keep my mind open. Maybe I’ll even end up enjoying the changes—doubtable, but I’m someone who’s flexible. As stated, I did enjoy some aspects of s1 and thought some things were interesting on paper! Like for example the backstory episode—s1e7, yes? I loved that episode and thought it was gorgeously animated! That doesn’t mean my opinion is lesser or more, however.
Anyway, now I’m really gonna watch the anime! Thanks for encouraging me!
While I did admittedly like some aspects about the new dmc anime back when s1 aired I haven’t been able to watch s2 yet but everything I have learned about it has been entirely against my will and I come out more horrified than before
When I actually sit down and watch s2 you’ll all hear about it. And not in the fun way. I still have a half finished draft of my thoughts on s1 tucked away but I think talking about s2 is more important rn. Still astounded. I’d legit hate analyze binge rn if I didn’t have work in the morning
