          he had made a point . between the cherry - glow of cigarette butts & the rustle of brown bag whiskey . what you do for him , whether that’s warmin’ his bed or shuttin’ someone up — anyone could do that . now , what d’you suppose that is , baby mae ? replaceable . good girl . how long do you think you have before he brings in a newer … shinier model to take over , huh ? what if he already HAS ? stomach had turned so violently she’d nearly lost all within her . fitting . coughing up blood like the decades’ worth of all THEY’D built . funny . how an ailing heart & mind can find the most extravagant of fallacies & build upon them as if they were sterling silver truths . perhaps it’s that she wants what he suggests to be real . if only to give some weight to those pesky feelings she lugs around with her . let her be RIGHT for once , even if it damns her in the end . 

          he’s all i have left . it was a whisper , a plea , past tense threatening the present like love’s carcass drooling down her throat . lou shakes his head , that faux sincerity shining like ARMOR . you got me , baby . you got me . remember now that this is no tragic , STILTED , love story . this is a tale of two crooked , immortal beings standing at the edge of the universe , bound together until it all should come undone . it should be , perhaps , that love does not belong here at all , in such a spartan existence , within such a fiend . but one creature had desired it . & that was enough to beset them both on the path of their undoing . 

          she’s lingers behind . taken warmly into hell’s recesses , touring the endless passageways & sweating walls she’s known a lifetime & more . it is a HOPE that she will remember none of this when all is said & done . not the creaking of these beds , the death’s grins of these faces , or the one she means to untangle herself from . through every doorway traces her scent , that dusky perfume & the clinging of smoke , of wet earth . she leaves it upon the pillow where he lays his head , on the jacket hung upon the chair in the corner . anywhere he might return .

          … this is her goodbye , but she is far too slow . his presence is felt behind her , looming , as she draws her fingers across the sheets where they’d torn into each other night upon night , but she does not turn . does not look at him .     ‘     figured     this     is     what     you’d     want     .     ’     all the explanation he’ll ever get . she sounds tired , always so tired these days .     

          ‘     was     i     wrong     ?     ’     but she’s not really asking . her tone speaks of reflection . on decisions done & made . to go back … no , she can’t . not now .

    HE  IS  SPENT.    worn down to the very fiery bone captured within the grimy skin of  the  devil  himself.    he is what he so wished to be.    like some show they all said his name ecstatic to see his  grand  appearance.    they say he can’t show love or any sort of feeling of any sort  ,  but the wrath within his chest is what made his heart.    the tastefully jealously and distaste for another soul who dare come between this two  DOOMED  lovers.    those are feelings  ,  you must admit.    the man of fire had everything burnt in that palm of his.    there’s the history of being thrown down from the gates of heaven.    fine  ,  he always supposes that it wasn’t that much fun up there anyways.    here he can do and take and keep as he pleased.

    but as a deity that who has had every single thing spared from his hands  ,  it has driven him mad.    a hungry jaw cracking under pressure.    the poison in the snake growing beyond deathly.    like if he were to bite  ,  the other would parish and never come back to the earth.    there would be no more chances.    from the very moment he met lou    ...    her  pet  ,  he knew with intuition that he was no good.    not  for  her.    where was she  ?    he couldn’t find her and nowhere in the places where naughty teenagers used to meet.     the shouts for her named could be heard all throughout the underground.    not a helpless call  ,  but one filled with the intentions of death.    as if he himself were ripping through the red and reclaiming his throne.

    glass was shattered  ,  fires burned hotter that even hell could burn down from it.     animalistic screams sounded of monstrous beasts fighting for dominance along with the horrid pain of the wounded prey.    she wasn’t entirely lost from him for he still felt her in that godforsaken pit directly in the middle of his heaving chest.    they are separate  ,  but can hear each other.    he can hear her poisoned words crafted by a puppet master.    and he shouts into the heated spaces around him.
