hi friends!!!! i'm jane, 21+, she/her! i'm so excited to join (and i'm sorry to the admins for asking so many questions along the way - i just got excited..... hehe) but this is my muse joo jaeyoon aka blue! (cheesy stage name, but midas picked it not me) below the cut is going to be a general rundown of jaeyoon bc i know his bio is way too long!! (also, i'm esl so i'm sorry for any typos and writing - i'm always learning!) pls give this a like, and i'll run to ur dms or d*cord to plot :)
BACKGROUND
jaeyoon comes from a run-of-the-mill regular middle/upper class family. his parents come from lower class roots, so they know how difficult life can get if you don't have stability. though they're both in tech / software jobs now (they're working parents), they still want their children to not go through the same things they went through as children
hence, jaeyoon and his sister have had the pressures of succumbing to the typical square lifestyle. his sister? succeeds, she gets into sungkyunkwan university as a doctor, and now she's a practicing physician. always stellar grades, typical picture perfect first daughter
jaeyoon on the other hand, is your troubled kid! he learns to start smoking at an early age, drinking, and doing all the things that your parents warned you about! but he had fun, and probably got exposed to it early because he was in this "underground" hip hop scene
as u can guess, his parents go nuts esp because he gets caught smoking in school / skipping classes. so, what do they do like any other korean parent household with a bit of money??? they send him off to america to study and homestay
he gets really sad at this time, basically abandonment issues lol (he also might have mommy / daddy issues, but that's for another day). tries to pretend like he's his sister, and lo and behold, it doesn't work after a year. but he learns to carve out and swallow his pride, and tell his parents 'plz let me come home' after a few years, swearing that he'll do better
psyche! he doesn't do better, and instead he reverts back after a year or so running with the same hip hop crowd / can't kick his nicotine habit. so, this time his parents threaten to send him to boarding school in the us, which he considers. but then he's street scouted by midas, and he decides this is a "sign" to escape the confines of his overburdening parents / current life
to this day: he sees his mom / dad / sister, but it's a bunch of superficial conversations where he doesn't say much
MIDAS
he joins midas, and does well for two years. enough so, that there's some speckle of hope that says he will debut. but guess what? skeletons in your closet come back angrier, haunting you to remind you that you can't cover your tracts that easily.
plus: there's rift between jaeyoon's musical drive and what midas has envisioned.
pictures resurface that he's underage drinking / smoking / dating, and suddenly he's pulled from phaze's lineup. (a bit bitter? yes because inside, jaeyoon thinks he would've made the group better and maybe he's deciding to practice a tinge of narcissism that day)
but what do you know, pretty face with a knack of talent - midas can't kick him out that easily. they basically put him on a short leash, and when they say jump: he says how high. he continues this tract for two years
he finally debuts! they try to market him as a hip hop idol rapper, but this vibe is far from his own personal music. there's a divide in what the company wants and what he wants. but still, he knows he's on a short leash and basically he does as they say
they reward him by letting him release bits and pieces of his own music throughout his discography
if we're making analogies: jaeyoon's discography is red velvet. the red is what midas wants, and velvet is what he wants - hence the divide in his music
but he's not popular lol some may say flop esp in korea.
ironically, he falls in love in 2022, and bc he's an idiot, the relationship ends! this causes him to be less prolific that year and literally only put out one release (please check it out bc it's my favorite piece of his discography)
now, that gets picked up by the american public. for some reason, american fans resonate with his loverboy sad boy aesthetic?? so now, he's marketing into a base that feeds into that. however, midas wants this to translate over to korea... so that's where he is at the moment, kind of stuck in limbo? it's like he never left that state of limbo.
PERSONALITY
ISTP!!
my personal favorite way to explain: he's a contradiction. he's not the bad boy of your dreams lol, but he's not an overtly happy-go-lucky guy. in fact, some may say he's flat, and rarely does get excited about anything
certified loverboy though, hence his discography and how much he writes and sings his feelings (probably because he has issues with saying these things outloud)
very introspective, and will probably have deep life conversations with you if you get him drunk enough? but sober? he doesn't have much to say apart from "hi" "how are you" and superficial ties.
as a friend: he's sturdy but selfish. if you're bored and want to hang? chances are he won't go outside, and will tell you to go bother someone else. if you're crying and distraught? he'll groan, and then probably come over with a bottle of whiskey (he doesn't care what you drink, he wants to drink what makes him happy)
as a lover: depends. most times, he'll play things out, but never follow through because he's probably still mourning his 2022 breakup lol. it's like you get half of him, and his heads are thoughts empty and elsewhere. but if he's really invested, then you get all types of rocky road ups and downs bc of his selfishness
probably smokes too much, and drinks too much. but die habits die hard, and he's engrained to press cruise control on his life
PLOT POINTS
i like plotting things out, so no plots pages. these are just ideas, but i'm really open to anything atm!
ideally: i'd like some phaze plotting! jaeyoon's kind of bitter, though he won't admit it. he knows he's a pretty boy, and thinks that he would've been center in the group (please clock him on this), and most popular. but he keeps these reservations, and would probably keep phaze members at an arms length. though, i can also envision a strong friendship that's entertwined with some level of morbid pity because jaeyoon never got to reap the benefits of debut with a popular group
friends! jaeyoon probably doesn't have any because he forgets to follow up on people since he's so hyperfocused on his own world, so anyone to clock him on the fact that maybe he's a shitty friend or someone who understands the mutual commiseration of being in the industry
anyone who likes hiphop?? idk, maybe people are into the underground hip hop music, and like his vibe. recommends his songs to their fans, and would like to collab at some point. his music isn't typical "k-pop" so, be interesting for someone to like his music or someone to only like the music that midas puts out for him
uncanny friends - i like the idea of someone in a very popular position to be jaeyoon's friend, and it's like?? how are they friends?? what do they talk about??? i imagine like irene being best friends with dpr live (just two random unrelated people), the public just being like wtf?
exes! he'd be a shitty bf, so probably bad ending. could be the love of his life too! idk these things i think require plotting, so it's left amorphous
