Beatrice cannot rob Ava of another love, she sees the heartbreak in Ava’s eyes and it breaks her resolve.

Beatrice is usually characterized as organized, methodical, essentially perfect. On the flip side, Ava is a bumbling impulsive mess. While very true to their characters, I love the little details that sort of link them to each other. Especially what sort of ‘opened’ their friendship

Beatrice started a nickname for Mother Supes - Cruella De Jesus. Its clever, but its also not what a traditionally ‘perfect’ nun would do - it was her rebellious streak. Similarly, Ava was very whimsical, a rebel and the opposite of Beatrice.

The first time we see her serious is when shes upset about what Superion said to her. Ava is incredibly serious about her life and those she cares about.

Beatrice is the driven and intelligent heir to (families) fortune. She is a prodigy, talented at everything she does, even if she is closed off.

Ava is the whimsical student who seems to sleep through every class and never works, but somehow consistently scores higher than Beatrice.

This infuriates Beatrice’s parents - Beatrice is more curious about Ava, but her parents say she must hate her competitor so she will. (She tries to hate Ava, she really does. She fails)

Ava Silva has been avoiding the smitten JC in his attempts to prom-pose. Beatrice proposes a solution; Ava and Beatrice fake-date as a couple at prom. It is clear that this is a one night only thing.

At prom, they feel the pull, its magical and incredible and everything beatrice wont allow herself to feel. So, at the end, she tells ava that ‘its over’ (meaning prom is over). Ava takes it poorly

There is a power imbalance in the world, this is undeniable fact. Women are seen as weaker, more frivolous and emotional, and less powerful than men in essentially every society. You can deny this till you turn blue, but if you look at the facts it is written in stone.

If you swapped the genders, then it would be problematic… because you are punching down in the power hierarchy. The way it stands, it is punching up - something that in literature would be considered satire.
