Such a good quote. One of the most iconic quotes of the entire show.
This show really is just an empathy test the more I think about it.
Did I address the bug thing yet? I think I did. I think I decided not to count it. Because it did lead to this and Kinger was genuinely a programmer.
As for another 'unanswered question' I hear people say this show has. "We never got explained what caused Kinger's memory loss when he's in the light"
Upon rewatch, I realize WE DID. It's just they answered that in a pretty subtle way.
He outright SAYS that the darkness brings him back to his last memory of his wife and that calms his brain enough to make him sane.
And they never address any possible outside force that would've caused Kinger's situation. Never implied that Caine caused it. (If it was I don't remember)
So PUT THE PIECES TOGETHER. They show he's sane when he entered the circus. He also talks about how low self esteem in Episode 6 from the things he's been through.
This is what intense PTSD and trauma does to a man. This is a side effect that can genuinely happen.
It WAS explained in the show. Just subtly.
They did not need to explicitly state "I have intense PTSD and trauma from my experiences in the circus and now my brain spirals when I'm in the light".
"TADC doesn't do show don't tell" MY ASS.
HERE'S ANOTHER EXAMPLE FOR YA.
And you know what? This is not only designed as a direct parallel, but it also acts as foreshadowing for Episode 9.
Especially the question of "How did Pomni know this was something she could do?"
Kinger told her. Right here.
Maybe she didn't know she would dive into Jax's brain, but she knew that making the room dark would make Jax calm enough that she could touch her.
Some of the things I heard people complain about as "One of the things that was never explained in the show". When... in this case at least, THEY DID. THEY FUCKING DID EXPLAIN IT.
Idk if I want to count Kinger's whole thing this episode as a "TADC doesn't do show don't tell" MY ASS. moment. Because they DO bring attention to it through dialogue at the end here.
So I'm not gonna count that.
But also, they clearly trusted the audience to be able to notice the difference between crazed Kinger and sober Kinger before they said it, and that they would not have to do any "DO YOU SEE IT?! DO YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE?!" winks.
They let you pick it up for yourself.

How can you not feel for her here? Especially since you've been watching her intense trauma on screen?
I would've broken and cried a long time ago.
"He just wants me to suffer"
Yet another instance of aspects of the show people were theorizing the hell out of,
Only for it to not actually mean anything.
Counter: 12
I at the very least was going crazy over this line thinking she wasn't talking about Caine here. Like "Oh my god did she have an abusive dad or something?"
But nope. She was talking about the abuse we have seen on screen. Which does make sense to be fair.
Just so you know how fucked up my taste is, my initial reaction to this was beyond the first time was "Why is this kinda hot?"
Yep. This is where I put the mark.
Might be one of the more awkward ones and I might regret it later.
Tragically this chapter would be only two scenes. Because first person POV, I have to, again, get rid of the really good therapy scene and the teatime scene with Martha.
Consequences. Consequences.
"Of course I'd be in hell! How could I not be in literal hell right now?!"
Me at the capitalistic hellhole that is 2020s America

"You've taken the pacifist route! And you should be proud of what good people you are!"
I swear, every time I hear this line I think of Undertale.
Remember when I talked about how Jax's content is backhanded to the latter half of the show?
Jax does NOTHING in this episode. She is literally tied up and unable to do anything.
Though I will say "You know how men are, always having the silliest priorities"
That line is a little weird now because Jax is trans. So now I look at this scene like "What men?"
I can kinda excuse it though cause I think Jax only ever 'came out' to any sort of extent to Ribbit. So they didn't know.
I contemplated ending a chapter here. For sure.
I decided not to. Because it would've just been this one scene.
So yay you get to see me write about the process of being dragged down to hell.
π
I'M SORRY THIS GETS ME EVERY TIME.
JUST THE CUTAWAY TO KINGER'S FACE AND HIS "...what?" LINE OMG...
Let's be honest, WE ALL thought Kinger was gonna screw it up.
"Why does Pomni trust Kinger so much?"
Huh idk maybe this entire episode has something to do with it.

"Please don't come alive..."
"Okay I won't"
I think Gooseworx said this was her favorite joke in the entire show.
I CAN TOTALLY SEE WHY.
*Entire cutscene of lore*
Them: "How about we take his gun?"
Why do I feel like that's a lot of people when it comes to lore heavy video games?
"Yeah yeah yeah I get it I'll analyze it later when I rewatch the cutscenes on YouTube. Can I beat the shit out some bad guys now?"
