Killian Ferguson was not the best of men. Actually, if anything, Killian was an asshole. Evie knew this the day she met him. Heâd grabbed her ass when she walked off stage and onto her dressing room. She had stopped, and he had got in her way, telling her that heâd offer anything she wanted if he got the opportunity to take her home that night. He had a self-assured air to him when he said this - like he knew she was desperate. And while she knew he could have been an axe murderer or something, she agreed to go home with him after her next performance, and that had begun her affair with a super, mega, ginormous asshole.Â
A super, mega, ginormous asshole who had managed to get her pregnant. She was going to tell him about it sometime during the week, actually she practiced her speech in the mirror on how to tell him, but then his wife texted her to meet her for coffee and her heart sank. She knew that she couldnât tell him now. Since his wife knew, that meant that this woman might want to take his baby away from her and call her unfit. Evie hated that thought, even though she never even wanted a child until she got pregnant. It seemed unfair. But Evie felt like she had to meet-up with the woman for coffee, since sheâd been seeing her husband in secret. It was the womanly thing to do.Â
The thing is, when she met her, she didnât expect her to be kind, and she didnât expect her to tell her that Killian was dead and had been dead for a week now. She had expected shouting and waterworks, not something more surprising than her own pregnancy.Â
âIâm sorry, but he canât be dead! Iâm pregnant!â Evie shouts, the whole cafe looking at her. Her face doesnât turn red because Evie doesnât know what the fuck embarrassment is, but like, she does know when to be quiet, so she shut her gob.Â
âYouâre what?â the wife asked.Â
Tears began to fall from Evieâs eyes. âIâm pregnant.â She began to sob. âI know itâs his because heâs the only man Iâve been with these past few months. Are you going to take it from me?âÂ
The woman shook her head. âNo. And that makes sense. He never liked to use condoms.â
Evie hiccuped, still crying, while being confused. âWhat? Youâre going to take my baby?â
âNo,â she said, all-too calmly. âIâve been in your shoes. Not with the baby, but as a mistress.â A pause from her before she frowns. âPlease tell me you werenât one of his students.â
Evie shook her head. âNo, but he was one of the regulars at the club I danced at.â
The woman sighed. âIâm sorry.â
âDonât be,â Evie replied. âHeâs a bastard and a half. Or was...ahhhâŚ.?â Speaking ill of the dead was bad. But like Evie never knew when to shut the fuck up.Â
âYouâre right. I just should have known karma would catch up with me.â She said quietly, causing Evie to reach for her hand, since she had no concept of personal space. The woman doesnât pull away though. Instead, they both sit in silence.Â
