This will be a short headcanon as it pertains to my Genji’s identity and current state of mind. 

In the short explanation, the death given to them by their brother Hanzo Shimada, Genji grew a deep rooted hate for their brother and eventually sprouted into a disgust for both their name and family name. So during their departure from Overwatch, dismissal from Zenyatta and walking the path of destruction and death, my Genji has decided to become anonymous. Nameless. A shadow. So in order to do this, they erased any mention of who they were in any publication or file that mentioned Genji and the Shimada clan. Ultimately, this led to the death of those who shared the same last name and even the eventual death of their brother. 

THEY HAS FACED THE DARKNESS, and upon inspecting it.. They felt the world try toeat their existence. CRIMSON BLADE ACHED WITH WAR, the darkness was cut into halt. Red hues stared back and upon the world, the warrior gazed into the sun. They never felt more alive.

AMONG GNASHING TEETH, ECHOING THUNDERS. Sputtering and droplets falling against rock and iron, blood washed away among the tides of empty water shaking their world. Upon what seemed like a iron pole stood atop its pinnacle a blade wielding warrior with what appeared to be crimson glowing optics. A few dead men among the ground scattered and gored, bloody and dead. A mist emitted from the mouth of the mask, irritated senses and a delving pleasure of wrath seeped from their being. The warrior allowed it’s blade to be sheathed and stand tall atop the pillar. Sensing a presence, the warrior showed valor and no fear.
