Image 1 creates contrast through concepts which we learned in the readings from the textbook. This specific image has a grid and a very specific layout. Its interesting that the designer included the grid on the page, but I think it adds even more structure and an aesthetic portion to the design.

Image 2 crates contrast between the points and lines which are incorporated within the typography that reads “future”. This not only draws attention to the word, but is an interesting way to include points in the typography, as they work as the “joints” of each letter.

Image 3 creates both contrast and consistency through balance, which is another principle from the textbook. The equally sized photographs on either sides of the pages creates an even balance which is pleasing to the eye and the reader.

Image 4 creates contrast by using the point concept uniquely. The number “29” is created of only black dots. This is a fun way to switch up fonts, amd draw attention to the number, while also incorporating important concepts of graphic design.

Image 1 has complementary colors, yellow-green and red-violet, which is seen in the tennis balls and the word “five” in the design. The complementary colors work together to equally draw your eye to both. It find my self balancing my vision on both objects, and not primarily looking at one.

Image 2 shows analogous colors, which in this design are on the spectrum from light orange to dakr purple on the color wheel. The analogous colors fade into one another which works to help the viewer read the design from left to right, and have a smooth and calming transition while scanning the design. They are being used tohelp the viewer read the sign.

Image 3 shows an example which has cool colors, including light and dark purples as well as navy. I think the cool colors are trying to incicate a calmness or relaxinf vibe to the viewer/buyer. This makes sense for the brand being “calm” as many people associate these colors with calmness or sleep.

Image 4 is an example with predominantly warm colors, which are different shades of brown and orange. This is trying to communicate warmness and comfort to the viewer/buyer, and I think it has this effect due to fireplace which makes one feel nostalgic an happy.

Image 5 is an example which uses contrast in color to communicate an importance is the page. The colors used are red and green, and on the page the green is clearly associated with “good” and red “bad”. This contrast between colors and words is well known by society, so the design is clearly trying to enforoce this meaning through the colors. The colors separate the page, and show a lear line between sides.

Image 6 is an exmapke of the gestalt principle, closure. This is used the the number 2 in the lines the surround it.

Image 7 is a design example with an active figure-ground relationship, as you can see that the question mark is used as an outline for the face. Each part works together to make two different images.

Image 1 is a design which has recipes for two summer looking cocktails. The donotative meaning of this design is giving us the information and recipe on how to make eahc of the cocktails. On the other hand, the connotative meaning of this design is encouraging the viewer to make them or at the least read the page through the bright colors, gropahics on the page, and the bold/multi colored title of the page. It gives the viewer te impression that the cocktails are fun and exciting, and maybe they can be too if they follow the recipe.

Image 2 is an exmaple of a piece of graphic design which has an iconic function. This image is an icon because it is showing a person walking, which it is what is being signicfied to the driver/pedestrian.

Image 3 is a piece of design which has an indexical function because it is advertising football, by showing the player which is an index.

Image 4 is a piece of design that has a symbolic function because it is a road sign which has a meaning/sign which only people from michigan know. What im referring to im the “M” which is culturally learned making it a symbol.

Images 1, 2, 3, and 4 are examples of rhythm within a publication, which were from a magazine. As you can see below each page is layed out purposefully with the images orderly on the page according to the rhythm of the segment, which reminded me of the Bauhaus video. The images and texts flow together because they are in similar spots on their corresponding page.

Image 5 is an example of typography hierarchy. As you can read in the sentence “brush up on your sun protection smarts” each word is assigned s specific typeface, color, and line weight. This help guides the viewer on which words are more impronat in the sentence. Because the word “sun” is the largest and is colorful we know that that is the main focus and importance of the sentence.

Image 6 has an example of an ascender which is the letter “K”.

Image 7 is an example of a descender which is the letter “Y”.

Image 8 is an example of a counter which is the letter “a”.

Image 9 is an example of a crossbar which is the letter “e”.

In image 10 the font used in the word “contents” has a large x-height as the ascemders are short and match up with the top of the other letters.

In image 11 the font used for the words “help yourself” are an example of a small x-height because the ascenders on the letters are larger, making the letters more different in height.

Image 12 is a piece of design which I thought appeared to be “Modernist ''.  What I think makes the design “Modernist” is the numbers which are color blocked in different bright colors. Below the exaggerated numbers is a bold font which encourages the “Modernist” vibe.

Image 1- Data Visualiztion (Ted Talk):

The infographic/data visulization that I included camr from Statista and is about Ted Talks. It is titled “The Most Popular Ted Talks of All Time”. I think this graph has an underlying agenda because under the title it specifies that it is according the most viewed on youtube. This makes me think that it is not including the actual most popular Ted Talks which would be viewed on many different platforms. I think besides highlighting popular Ted Talks, this graphic is also trying to get more views on youtube, for these already highly viewed videos.

Image 2- Identity System (CeraVe):

Image 1- CATA Bus Logo: This logo stuck out to me as a basic graphic design because of the unique branding of the typeface of the letters and lines which compliment each other, as well as the image of the cat running. This made me think of the deception aspect of graphic design due to the cat which appears to be running fast, in relation to the company which it represents. The symbol of the fast cat makes the viewer associate the ideas of something being fast quick or convenient with the cata bus, therefore deceiving the viewer.

Image 2- White Claw Poster: This White Claw poster caught my eye, as it included many elements which I would consider important in graphic design. The photo which is edited to be in B&W, the typeface and its font, as well as the cut out white claws which are in color all make up what I would think to be good graphic design. The photo of the woman smiling with the white claw on her head also gives the impression of fun or exciting which I think makes this poster deceptive.

Image 3- The Ordinary branding: The label on The Ordinary product stuck out to me as I felt it covered what I think to be groahc design. Although this doesnt have much going on, the very basic and aesthetic fonts and placements which is used attracts one to the brand, because it feels desirable and sleek making you want to buy the product.

Image 4- White Barn candle branding: The label on the White Barn candle seemed like good example of what graphic design it because it is simple yet effective. We see the branding and the name of the candle “Snowing Flurries” which effects are heightened by the image of snowflakes and the shade of blue on the label. Although this might seem basic I think that this a basic example of graphic design which includes important elements.
