"I know the ritual to make a sentient sword well enough to know where my soul went. The knowledge I lost was what replaced that piece of my soul. But after some thinking, I've got it... I think." She goes to open a scroll that had some stuff scribbled and jotted down.

"That cave was inhabited by what's called Living Darkness. A step up from what Noxus was as a shadow wraith. While it doesn't technically have a soul... it works similar enough to one that it can be used to repair or replace a soul. Which means I am part Living Darkness, so in theory I can learn their powers and harness it. That also explains my sudden predatorness, Living Darkness feeds on wearing travelers trying to escape storms or find shelter fir the night."

"The only one that sounds too far off would be theory A... hmm" She looked like she was thinking this over herself, as if she didn't actually know the answer. "I have figured out enough to know that Noxus is now the blade. A sapient sword is often required for such a ritual. That was the first sacrifice made... killing Noxus and absorbing him into the blade. So I cannot be Noxus..."

Her horn lit up as she pulled a book from her bookcase, the title was unseen. "Souls are... complicated. A pony is not complete if their soul is not complete. There are ways to replace lost parts of your soul but none to fully fix it. The issue is, since you are your soul, and your memories are a part of what makes you... you..." Clear hesitance was in her voice, as if she was choosing her words carefully.

"I can't remember what the ritual does exactly. That was cut from my memory during the ritual. I know I am Luna... but not entirely. I know that the part of the soul taken by Noxus had to be replaced. Noxus is a living shadow, he has no soul, so he couldn't have given me part of him. So what replaced my missing piece?"

She sighs... "You're right... I gave you too much credit. Read. Figure it out."

The sad part is Noxus isn't even a final fantasy reference.

The dark alicorn claps her hooves together slowly, a mix between a bored stare and a knowing smirk, making the slow clap clearly sarcastic. "Congratulations. One of you finally read it all and put the pieces together. It took longer than I expected..."

Her expression turned sour, losing the smirk.

"Protection is a useable word here... but not the best fitting one. To put it simply, when the world turns it's back on you, the only proper response is to turn your back on it. Darkness represents the unknown, to master dark magic is an affront to knowledge itself. Using it to surpass is uncharted waters, like a refugee leaving their home behind.

Luna is me, but I am not entirely Luna. I can't be. My soul too different. It was severed, and the resulting missing piece was replaced. What exactly that means, will be for you to figure out. The pieces are there, keep putting them together. I'll give you a little hint, how does Noxus play into this?"

"Everyone is free to speak freely about what they wish. But with that freedom comes my right to freely decide if your opinion is wrong and take away your freedom to speak freely. So I suggest you freely speak correctly if you want to stay free." She opened her eyes and looked at you with warm smile, giggling innocently. "You are free to interpret that how you wish."
