I had to make a tumblr just to ask this. I'm genuinely wondering how do you justify deleting comments and blocking people. This is not trying to be a pisstake, I'm legit interested in your opinion on this sort of moderation and censorship. When you delete a post or block someone, how do you explain it to yourself? Is it just that it's your personal website and some content are just not welcome or do you have a deeper explanation?
when i was ten years old my parents were gunned down in an alley by an internet jerk who thought when people didn’t want to listen anymore to his jerky-ass things he had to say that it was somehow “censorship” so now i dress up like a bat and remove jerks from my website
Look, the first amendment in America protects your right to criticize your government in a public forum without prosecution by said government. So commenting negative bullshit on someone’s private page is not protected. Someone refusing to offer your assholery free web hosting on a site they run is not censorship. Their website is not your forum for public expression. Blocking and deleting online is akin to asking someone you hate to leave your fucking party- or simply refusing to invite them in the first place. A webpage where someone posts their content for viewers to voluntarily read is not an invitation for hostility and negativity. If you dislike the content on a given page and the author of that page hasn’t explicitly said, “please let me know all the contradictory and unpleasant things you have to say in response to this,” then you are not entitled to do so. Someone refusing to dignify your opinion by responding or leaving it posted on their page is not censorship. It’s healthy moderation designed to protect the readers who are there for a good time- to curate the best possible experience for the page’s intended audience.
More to the point: learn to accept and get over the fact that no one cares about your opinion nor about hurting your delicate little fee-fees when they excise it from their lives.
I have no idea what this subject has to do with the first amendment of America but alright. It's a global thing, not just about murrica. So why couldn't he just respond like this instead of what he gave me? I asked an honest question I was curious about because our views on certain aspects of life are different. I wouldn't go through the trouble of removing shit that I don't agree with or find unfitting, thus the question arose: what is his reason for doing so. I don't understand what was the reason for responding so degradingly. He could've just said because he can or because he wants to, but instead he answered in this condescending way. I just don't understand why, it's so unnecessary. I genuinely just had a question I would've liked to get an answer to.
