Respectfully, Ireland is the best country on the planet
from the same thread:
I love Ireland
You can always tell when an author is trying to "deconstruct" something that they think is stupid or boring or otherwise beneath them because they're unwilling or unable to develop the necessary understanding of the source material to properly rip into it and the end result invariably fucking sucks. You need to love a genre in order to truly do it violence.
The worst part of human adulthood is being your own zookeeper
Like... i have to make sure my meals are nutritionally balanced... i have to make sure that the space i occupy is big enough, and interesting enough, and provide enrichment to make up for the lack of novelty... i have to make sure i get exercise... i'm not qualified for this
Why would you abandon this in the tags?Â

âThe real moral of Hadestown to me is, yes, weâre fucked, but we still have to try with all our might. We have to love hard and make beauty in the face of futility. Thatâs the essence of what Persephone sings at the end of the show: âSome birds sing when the sun shines bright / my praise is not for them, but the one who sings in the dead of night / I raise my cup to him.ââ

I like art that depicts women not posing seductively or gracefully but simply existing as human beings.

âchancellor palpatine, sith lords are our speciality.â funniest fucking line in star wars history. obi-wan, who has never killed a sith and knows he has never killed a sith, talking about himself and a guy who is going to become a sith lord within half a week, and speaking directly to the sith lord who is going to make that guy a sith lord, with FULL fucking confidence: âsith lords are our speciality.â he says this to palpatineâs face. to his face. to darth sidiousâ face. in the most condescending fucking voice. completely unaware that he is speaking directly to the sith lord, to THE sith lord, who before the week is out is going to directly fuck over his entire lifeâs work and everything he loves and believes in: âsith lords are our speciality.â could you be any more cringefail. actually palpatine deserved his whole victory for not bursting into laughter then and there
i cannot emphasise enough that there is exactly sixty seconds between him saying this and him getting knocked fully unconscious. by a sith lord.
to everyone in the notes saying âhe cut darth maul in half!â sure. yeah. iâm aware. letâs review. he literally cut a sith lord in half and still couldnât kill him. âoh tcw hadnât happened yet when this line was written so he DID kill maulâ if star wars is going to fuck up its own timelines then thatâs simply not my problem. if star wars is going to make it canon that literally as obi-wan says this line, the only sith he has ever defeated is not only still alive but is getting defeated by a teenage girl, then i am absolutely going to make posts about how thatâs funny as hell. filoni killed this line iâm just putting flowers on its grave

In the Mood for Love / Wong Kar-wai (2000)
Central to the film is a reclamation of the Orpheus myth, a version of which the three young women read aloud together one night. Sophie registers distress at Orpheusâs fatal, selfish incompetence in looking back at Eurydice when he was told not to, and Marianne suggests he may have done it on purpose, preferring to lose the woman and savor, instead, the romance of his grief, making not âthe loverâs choice, but the poetâs.â But itâs HĂ©loĂŻse who removes, for once, the fixation on Orpheus, his failings, and his loss. What if, she says to Marianne with an edge of defiance, it was Eurydice herself who chose art over staying together, who rather than leave the underworld with Orpheus, stopped and called out âTurn around,â preferring to remain down there and be preserved in poetry. A kind of freedom and a kind of permanence, rather than, as eighteenth-century marriage looks to be, an unwilling exchange of one for the other. â In Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Love is a Work of Art
