HOUSE OF THE DRAGON: 1x07 "Driftmark"
Rhaenys and Corlys (HotD version) parallels to Penelope and Odysseus, part 1:
Odysseus is gone for 20 years (10 years for the Trojan war and then 10 years getting back home) and presumed dead. His and Penelope's son Telemachus is not yet of age, and there are no other male heirs or relatives to inherit/defend the throne of Ithaca. Penelope, acting as regent in her husband's absence, must then fend off 100+ suitors attempting to win her hand; whoever marries her would become King of Ithaca.
Show!Corlys is gone for 6 years, fighting in the Stepstones, and is presumed to be mortally wounded. Since both of his legitimate children, Laenor and Laena, are dead and his brother Vaemond is a shit-stirrer, it creates a question of succession. Rhaenys, who has been acting as regent of the Driftwood Throne for the past 6 years, has to fight to try and retain her position as Lady of Driftmark.
I still think the figurehead is one of the most romantic and symbolic things that Corlys could have done. And I was enjoying every single shot of that thing.
Thinking about what might have happend to Rhaenys' body again.
Like, do we take the bts pictures of her "most joyous corpse" as canon β or at least, do I personally want to headcanon that? Because I'd rather think that she'd been crashed, burried or burned than thinking about what it would mean if her body had been openly lying around in enemy territory...
She didnβt get a pyre lit. No rites. No send off. None.
I don't want be led to imagine anything even worse.
