I have to put on my suit of skin, muscle and guts to walk around like someone who has wandered into a party they didn't want to go to in the first place.

Then, when night falls and the weight of the day has taken its toll, I unveil myself in the comfort of my home under dim, warm lights. I am the fragile being behind the mask, the creature with hundreds of thoughts at once who stumbles to speak.

I'm nothing without the suit that society made me tailor not to fit me, but to fit them. I'm nothing without the flesh they love; the words I've learnt to say at the right moment; and the soft gaze my muscles have adjusted to create, just to seem human.

I long for the day when I can be myself without this weight on my shoulders; when I don't have to wear a fake mask and try to walk, talk and act a certain way just to avoid being judged.
