See you say that, but if you’re hardcore on following every piece of the canon, including Word of God outside the written text, there are no clones:

Given the way TF2 fanfiction has always worked, one can write a Spy that isn’t TF2′s Spy but is a TF2 Spy (if that makes sense), and therefore it becomes an OC while still maintaining the physical features of the original class. Therefore, BLU Spy and BLU Scout might not be related, crossfaction RED Spy/BLU Scout might not be related, etc etc.

If you go with “that’s still fucking weird” though, there’s a way to basically pull Death of the Author out when you realize Pinkerton is actually just aggressively fighting to retcon animated canon:
