[Critique/Rewrite/Redesign/Rant blog]
A space for airing out my personal grievances with Habeenee Hostile because I fear I will implode if I don't.
mmmm.... I don't think I can, not in the near future at least. I'm currently drowning in both academic and a ton of personal projects right now. This Hazbin rewrite unfortunately is just at the bottom of importance for me despite wanting to still work on it.
If its any consolation, here's some doodles and ideas I've been playing with. It's not a lot but its still something.
A Vox and Rosie redesign... I'm not too happy about rosie as I feel like I could've done more with her design especially when I'm just using her hat feather as a crutch to make the design feel fuller.
Someone suggested that I should be putting Charlie in a suit to be more professional. I tried and well.... I somehow found that I strayed so far away from the point it looks more like cosplay. I decided to scrap these designs but I might use them for something in the future. I genuinely don't remember what my thought process was while designing these.

I love your rewrite, and there's something I've been wondering.
Does dad beat dad happen in this? If not, then does Alastor and Lucifer ever meat in deadbeat motel? If they did meet, how would their interaction go? Would Alastor dare to mess with Lucifer in this? And would Lucifer even allow Alastor to mess with him in any way?
Thank you, I have a hard time knowing what to say to previous asks that complimented this blog's tomfoolery but to those that have left such nice things, thank you so much. I may not respond to them but know that I do appreciate those messages sent.
and to answer your question, no, I don't think Deadbeat Dad happens in this, or at least the "I'm a better father than you" pissing contest between them. Also, Alastor would be uncharacteristically be absent in the chapter/episode that Lucifer appears in for a bunch of reasons:
1.) Alastor has too much implied history with Lucifer, I feel like If we have them outright interact on Lucifer's first appearance in the story, then the story gets way to absorbed in solving the mystery of these two.
2.) Lucifer should spend more time interacting with the other patrons of the motel. Each (or at least most) of the sinners should be able to leave some kind of an impression on Lucifer. Their interactions building up how Lucifer feels about sinners before he has that outburst blurting out everything emotionally.
3.) And when they do interact, they both keep it short with a simple acknowledgement of the other before Lucifer leaves. I'm still vague on their relationship, not sure which parts to solidify at the moment. Though, I am leaning to the idea of making their relationship "Business only" so no, Alastor wouldn't dare to mess with him. Not because he's scared but he wouldn't want to sour the relationship he has with a business partner.
Lucifer in Deadbeat Motel brings a much more tense atmosphere in the Motel, characters feel like they're walking on eggshells around him and are unable to get much of a conversation out of him. They're also very aware of his status and reputation as the 'Overlord's End' (based on this) and are not eager to see what he can do with just regular sinners.
Ummm…I know it’s probably a while since you updated but do you have a redesigning so far for either Lucifer or Lilith I would really love to see it.👉👈
Hello, yes, it's really been a while. I apologize I've been getting busier and busier these days and coupled with the fact that I've been getting sucked into another hyperfixation for a while now, I've neglected this blog.
When it comes to both their redesigns, I really couldnt settle on one as I'm going to redesign them based on what their role and character in "Deadbeat Motel" becomes. However I have had drafts of their designs, this one just happens to be the one I felt best about.
Some details about their designs:
Lucifer's skin was charred into pure black as he fell violent from Heaven, his face was the only thing to be unaffected as he was covering it with his hands.
I made Lucifer's body a little bit more feminine in shape since this was supposedly the "girl led show" and a majority of the time, men happened to take a majority of the big roles. Plus I thought Lilith would be someone who would be more into a feminine resenting partner (wether they would be male or female)
Lucifer's wings and tail are huge on his smaller frame as I assume seraphims should have extremely large pair/s of wings to match their powers/status.
Lilith's upper half is basically a costume, it can be taken off anytime she wants.
An Idea I wanted to play with was that Lilith remains human since it was another avenue I could play Lucifer's shame of Charlie (as he sees that she inherits more of him than she did her mother, another avenue his self hatred has manifested as) and the fact that it was a funny and adorable idea that Lilith would dress up as her own demon-sona to keep charlie from being ashamed of her demon nature.
However these are still Ideas, I'm not yet sure wether these should be set in stone or not (though I am tempted to keep Human Lilith)
If I ever revisit this blog, expect some things to be tweaked here and there as I try to re-immerse myself in the work again and people's roles and relationships change for a more solid idea.
so is your Cherri Bomb still Aussie or is she now Japanese?
She's Japanese.
For some reason, my brain managed to create a connection with cherribomb's destructiveness form the addict music video and sukeban's violence. I found the idea a lot more fun to think about so I decided to go with it anyways. I'm not too familiar with anything Australian so nothing came to mind when trying to redesign cherribomb.
but at least the fun thing is that there would be two Japanese characters in the cast now.
Are you cool with people doing fan art of your redesigns? I really think your Alastor design is dope!
Thank you! The Alastor design in particular was inspired by 99monochrome's design and I'll continue to shout that out since his design is amazing.
And Yea, I don't mind it at all. I have no strong need to protect these designs. I'm cool with people drawing them, using them as inspirations for their own designs or even using them for their own thing.

The last two designs for the main cast. With these two done, I can finally work on miscellaneous characters that I've been eyeing the most.
Again, thoughts below the cut:
My issues with their Original designs:
Sir Pentious:
I thought I would only have one thing to say about him (the unnecessary eyes) since he was my favorite in the entire original cast but having taken a closer look at him for this, I saw a lot of things that bothers me.
Too many eyes. specifically the lower half of his body has too many eyes and it seems detrimental to him. It's kind of painful to think about it since I do not think we ever see those eyes close. Is he just slithering on the ground with those exposed eyes? That's got to be irritating at best and damaged at worst as he continuously slithers on them.
There are eyes on the bowtie and the hat? There are already 4 extra eyes on his hood, so why have even more? I get that the original Pentious design was basically a monsterous amalgamation of eyes but the eye thing could have been scrapped altogether.
While his palette was the least red out of the cast (More so composed of yellows), it still blends in with the rest of the reds.
The claws are an unnecessary repeating design trait (Alastor and Vox notably have them too). I don't think it would've been too big of a difference to just keep his fingers fully black.
The stripes on his suit are too thick. It's called pinstripes for a reason.
I don't like how the hat is shaped to fit the head, It's awkward.
not a point, but I just wanted to say how the blue color palette works really well with him in that last episode.
CherriBomb:
She's not that bad of a design (She's sort of bland in my opinion) but it's the little small details about her that makes her so simple and also so complicated at the same time. There are so many batches of freckles scattered everywhere, little explosion lines on her skirt as well as the X on her chest, the tattoos are a jamble of random loops and bombs, and her tattering doesn't have an easy shape to consistently draw.
The thought process for these two:
Mx. Pentious:
Pentious goes by both Sir/Miss/Mx. but uses she/they pronouns.
Minimized the actual amount of eyes on her, I kept it only to her actual eyes and those on her hood.
Gave her a butterfly-shaped hood. It's nothing deep since it stems from the fact the notches in Sir Pentious' hood almost looked like one to my bad eyesight. I decided to play more into that idea.
I read some posts where people talk about how Sir Pentious should have a snout and while I understand why and fully support people giving him one, I really didn't want to add the snout to this design. It drove me crazy since I'm not a big fan of it. I tried a compromise where her head was shaped more like Phineas.
Kept the tophat but removed its eye and mouth. If I remember correctly, Viv took that from one of her co-workers from the pilot. I decided to just have it as a regular tophat.
It doesn't have all the colors, but her design does have the Neptunic flag.
I'm not sure if this even is a real snake but I based Mx. Pentious' design on this:
CherriBomb:
Scraped most of her features in exchange for a sukeban theme. I personally have zero knowledge about the punk scene in Australia.
A majority of the suggestions I received for her rough draft had something to do with the skirt. I elongated it and gave it a slit in which the magenta from the inside is able to pop out.
Thought it would be a cute detail to have her hair explode if she's angry.
----
Apologies this took too long to be posted, Life got in the way as well as the fact I was feeling shitty about Pentious' first draft. Her skin was an awkward and ugly shade of green and seeing some posts critical of Pentious' design got me to think a little bit more about what direction I'd like to move her redesign.
You could see this in the earlier rough sketches but this was how Pentious' first redesign looked like
Love your art/redesigns! I was wondering how you imagine Vox in this universe (mostly bc i still can’t believe vivziepop decided to make a technology/entertainment oligarch into a neon twink💀) and ig the Vees in general
Ahaha. Little akward cause Vox happens to be one of the few designs from the show that I enjoyed. He's such a welcomed break from the red in everyone in that universe. But yeah, I still can see the short comings of his design.
If I'd redesign him..... personally, he's no longer be an object head because I'm just not a fan of that sort of thing.
As for the others....
Im not redesigning Val, personally I just really dont want to touch whatever he is. I'll just keep him as a stock image of a cockroach tbh.
And for Velvette, im not a fan of the clothes they give her. Im pretty sure that fashion designer would've been bullied because of the outfits she wears on the show. She's definitely written to be more of a fast fashion designer but I might want to expirament with more high fashion/avant garde designs. Oh and probably texture her hair and give her skin some saturation too.
But all that would have to wait since I'll be taking a longer break to focus on uni again.
"You've come to seek the end have you?" a figure stands in its lonesome greeting his visitor.
The King of Hell as he once was called, it had been some centuries since anyone had addressed him by that title. The number of sinners who still knew him by that monicker dwindled as time marched on. Now the only ones who call him by that are prideful Overlords seeking to find an end to their long afterlives but would never let another claim the glory of being their executioner.
The Overlord before him didn't say much, opting to avert their gaze.
"The time to have shown shame was long before you came to my realm. If you truly wished to find an end, then look me in the eye."
When the overlord finally grew the courage to do so, they felt something pass through their body. Lucifer's arm had pierced them with the tips of those clawed fingers glittering like white angelic steel. The overlord looked at their torso, Lucifer's fingers definitely passed through their body but it left no mark. They were almost doubtful he did anything to them... but that's when they finally felt it. Its origin on their torso, small and focused like a snake's bite, radiated such an imense pain bringing the overlord to their hands and knees shaking.
"I never promised a painless death..." The overlord's body shakes and trembles as they choke through screams
"... toughen through the pain. You earned your place in hell, you need to earn your death."
That's where Lucifer comes in, being the only other angelic being in this place, he can offer the same end that these angels do with the sinners.
There always comes a time in every Overlord's afterlife where their mortal soul can no longer stand an eternal life of hell. Despite the angels overpassing these souls during the extermination, they are not free from other overlords. Paranoia seeps into their mind as the fear of who would eventually toture them never leaves their mind.
Trivia:
Zestiel, being the only mortal soul that has reached 700, has impressed Lucifer with how long he's kept clinging to his sanity. Though he assumes that once Carmilla is gone, he should soon be seeing him come through his doors.
Lucifer in the show shows disdain for sinners but I feel like they had to brush through it with their 8-episode limit. Which sucks so I amped it up to 11 here where he sees every human as disgusting for forsaking his gift of free will. He is quite hostile and antagonistic when interacting with sinners.
Lucifer has NOT seen Charlie since her birth, he was an absent father. Ever since he left, Lilith has broken all ties with him. Theres a deep pit of guilt and shame inside him that festers from his regrets.
While I am aware that Lucifer and the 7 sins have a circus motif going on. The execution is so bad I don't really want to attempt salvaging it. I'm scrapping his entire ringmaster vibe.
--------
This was an interesting idea i just wanted to get out in writing before I forgot.
Something of a quick fix to the whole "no one in hell knows angels can't be killed" because it's such an insane thing to believe that in a thousand years, not a single soul ever thought of fighting the angels? In the show, angels are told to be such an easy kill because they never had to defend themselves and Carmilla produces angel-tipped weapons by the hundreds, to the point of having a market for her products. It's so hard to believe that not one of the sinners who owns one of these "Carmine-Crafted" weapons didn't try to fight back against an angel and succeeded.
So here's a thought:
What if only Carmilla and Zestiel, the two at the top of the sinner's hierarchy and even able to keep every overlord in check, had actually known that angels could be killed. What if the idea that angels can't be killed was propaganda they started and kept going to keep sinners from killing an angel and inciting an unwanted war with heaven?
Somewhat long post ahead.
In the show proper, Zestiel voices concern about "Heaven purging all of hell for daring an uprising" when the idea of fighting back against the angels is brought up. He seems so sure that this would lead to an entire purge if they ever attempted the idea and surely, there must be something within the 700+ years that he had spent in that realm that makes him so sure about this possible outcome.
Here's what I wrote:
In Zestiel's time, the overpopulation of hell had just begun to be a problem. There was no yearly purge like the one we're familiar with now. Instead, it was only annual visits to check in on the realm and on Lucifer himself (personally, I would like to believe these visits were to check in on him after being thrown into hell by the higher order of angels.) Sinners back then were just as murder-happy as they are now and have found out that Angels are not good at defending themselves and that they can hurt the angels with the weapons they bring themselves.
This first murder of angels caused an extreme outrage up in heaven that it started the first purge of all sinners of hell but unlike the normal exterminations, this purge wiped out more than 80% of the population. Zestiel was one of the few who had survived this initial purge and personally saw heaven's wrath when provoked. Everyone who had survived lived on and warned the newer sinners to never attack an angel.
Heaven, however, decided to start the yearly extermination a few years later and many of those surviving demons died in the many exterminations that happened after that. Leaving Zestiel as the only living demon who still remembers the first purge and why it happened. Zestiel wants to avoid having heaven's big purge again not because he cares about the sinners like him, but because he cannot let himself live through something like that again.
Carmilla fits in this as the main weapons dealer in hell, she could make sure that the production of angel-infused weaponry is contained and limited to only her and an exclusive few. She can also make sure that the weapons being used in hell are controlled by her since she's basically made a monopoly on weapons in hell. Zestiel makes her his partner in making sure to continue making sure that the sinners will never fight and win against angels.
Both these overlords work together to continue scaring off every sinner from attempting to kill an angel and even if they try to, they're able to rely on the fact that none of their weapons can even harm an angel.
-----
It's not a perfect fix (admittedly it was written hastily and does go against other parts of the worldbuilding) but it's at least a step in a clear direction and makes sense of the "No one knows angels can be hurt" aspect of worldbuilding.

I finally got to the design I hate the most, Alastor.
I'm not a fan of my design simplified to meet the cast's more cartoony style. I tried my best but might draw him some other time with my actual style.
Anyway, my thoughts are under the cut:
My issues with their Original designs:
What can I say that hasn't been already said by so many others?
Red overpowers his entire design and he barely stands out of the background, sometimes he blends with it at times.
Supposedly a mixed person yet the average audience member who watches the show with no context can't tell that he is. I don't want to hear about how mixed people can be pale-skinned because he was never written as a white-passing poc in mind. His Creole background was an excuse to use voodoo in the show and merchandising.
Another Vivzie character that dons a shoulder-padded suit. I believe he's one of the 5 others that has this repeating design trait (Angel Dust, Charlie, Pentious, Lucifer, Valentino, Vox)
His hair bothers me a lot. A 1930s man having a scene kid's haircut? I have a hard time believing that for the sake of the show. Also, not to mention he has that awkward undercut that ends up making him a scuffed Willy Wonka cosplayer.
Twink...
Personal tidbit, but I'm not sure what his staff's design even is? an egg with a microphone in it?
The thought process:
First of all, gave him a darker skin tone, that light grey doesn't cut it for me, unfortunately.
Also heard that his inspiration was Dr. Facilier and with that in mind, I wanted to make him look like him a bit more like him.
The mostly grey and black color palette was inspired by 99monchrome's take on Alastor. Teddy's take is pretty amazing.
If I remember, there was something about him being hunted and shot at like a deer while escaping the authorities. The headshot manifests as a small red X on his forehead.
Gave him a pencil moustache since I wanted him to look like a grown man in the 1930s. Plus, there is a seemingly noticeable lack of facial hair on every male character in this show. (If you're showing me an example of the opposite, please do not give me some background character or any Helluva boss character.)
An extra set of teeth will appear within the slits on his mouth, forming to prevent Alastor from being ever able to frown.
His mouth is also constantly bleeding.
A small detail that would be easy to miss but his eyes are radio dials.
He has a tail and fur on his body because I think it's cute.
Sort of like Velvette in the series, I do want to have Alastor drastically change hairstyles from time to time. Dreads, Twists, Straightened, Buzzed, etc.
A little detail just important to me is that his eyebrows go from thin to thick at its ends.
So this redesign is on a character that doesn't appear in the series proper. This is Crymini.
Her purpose in Deadbeat is to fulfill the sloth part of the 7 sins theme and be the most modern character we have in the roster (still debating whether she should be from the 2000s, 2010s or the 2020s).
Theres really not much I can say about this redesign.
My issues with her Original design:
A "Punk rock" character who has a pretty bland design. Her outfit consists of only two things, a skull print dress and a black jacket.
How in the 9 hells does that hair work??? Two segments are fighting for space on her head while the third one acts as a giant ponytail???
She suffers from the same problem all anthro female characters from Viv suffer from: they're made from the same hourglass body wolf base. If I were to take out the spots from her body, could you tell that this is a hyena and not some generic cat/wolf character? If she ever gets into season 2, Hopefully, she gets a second redesign to give her a unique body.
The thought process behind the design:
Gave her a nonfeminine body, or more like a body type where she doesn't have a cinched waist.
My roster was looking a little bit too muted and she needed a pop of color to distinguish herself from the others, hence the blue stitches on her grey hoodie.
The collar is a manifestation of her feelings of being controlled by her family, being visually too tight and almost suffocating. Despite being far from her family now, she hasn't outran the issues they cause for her
Her clothing choice is pretty bland since I don't think she would be the type of person to have a fashion sense. As long as it feels good, it's nice enough for her.
My friend and I were talking about how useless these characters are. He suggested I redesign them and since they're basically over-glorified pets, I decided they should just be pets like the cat they own.
Vivziepop underestimates the power of fugly ass creatures.

Asking for some advice, since she has been taking me too long to do
Cherri Bomb has admittedly given me a bit more of a hard time than I realized. These two are my 4th and 5th attempts at finalizing her but again, It's like there's something not working with either design.
I'm asking for some advice/critique or some suggestions.
As much as I like Rosie's simplistic design, I cannot get over the fact that the animators can barely be bothered to keep this woman on model.
(Mind you, the top row is from episode 3 and the bottom rows are basically from the same scene only minutes or seconds apart.)
The animators either had no turnaround reference sheet to go with or they finally broke after having to animate the entire main cast for more than 3 hours runtime.
