It had gotten to the point where it seemed like nothing matters, because I’m not a real person and neither is anyone else.

natalie dormer appreciation: [1/∞]
maloneal:
She had came and left so fast that she merely was just a memory at this point in time. Just another pretty face that had managed to capture his attention briefly. Malakai had this unfortunate endeavor placed on him his entire life when it came to women. He never properly courted someone and even to this day he was still so very awkward with human interaction. He just appeared so stoic, intense, and overall a difficult man. Malakai was the type of man to either leave a lasting impression or have others despise him for his intellect. Either way, it didn’t matter, because sooner or later those same people would disappear from his life.
He had finally managed to catch up with his work load. Finalizing the last of the grades and organizing them accordingly he was interrupted by a tap at the door. His peripheral view went from the documents to the woman earlier in the day holding two cups between her palms. His nostrils flared smelling the familiar scent of blood in one of the cups. Malakai immediately stood up from his desk and eyed the cup with his usual go-to blood type.
“You shouldn’t have.” He said politely, reaching for the warm cup, and taking it. “Trying to make friends with the right people?” He asked, eyes burning into hers as he sipped on the cup. Feeling satisfied with the remainder of blood left in the mug he smirked. “It’s working. If you were my student I’d probably look into giving you some form of extra credit. Since you’re merely a professor, well, I’ll promise not to sink my teeth into you.” He teased.
There was a certain aura of kindness radiating over his body when he spoke with her. It was just the little things that he appreciated. He enjoyed humans giving him things because it made him feel somewhat powerful. Even if he knew deep down that she just was being friendly, and it wasn’t a submissive action, he still liked it.
"You make a lot of assumptions, don’t you?” she replies evenly, measuring her tone so that it doesn’t come across antagonistic. Almost teasing, even. She also makes a point of not allowing her gaze to waver, especially when his own remains resolutely focused on her. Could he be trying to read her reactions before she can voice them? Possibly. Does it bother her? Not enough to put her off completely. Sure, like most people she’s not a fan of assumptions being made about her, but the ones he’s made thus far are pretty tame in comparison to the harsher ones she’s had to deal with. She does take note of it, though. The fact that he thinks of himself as ‘the right people’ says plenty right there. She won’t judge him for it. Not unless he tries lording it over her. “How’s your track record with that, by the way? Because since we’ve met you’re at 0-2.” Raising her coffee to her mouth, she pauses before her lips can touch the lid. “Ulterior motives aren’t my thing,” she elaborates further, rebuffing his tease behind her motive for being friendly towards him. Shooting him a brief smile, she takes a sip of her coffee and parts from it with a pleased sigh.
His own attempt at a tease is received with another quirked brow, though a small trace of a smile presents itself. “Now there’s a promise you should consider keeping. Because, I mean, you could technically try, but it probably wouldn’t end well. . . for you.” Her eyes flash with playful humor, but there’s a flicker of warning buried underneath. At the moment she’s just joking around, but should he ever decide to press his luck he’d find himself faced with an adamantine woman who could withstand the intensity of him. It’s not that she’s entirely against the idea of allowing a vampire to feed from her. It’s just not something she’s ever done before. The only time she’d ever even offered her blood was to try and save Francis’ life and there’d been hell to pay when he’d flat-out refused. Besides that one instance, she hasn’t offered her blood before or since. Probably because it’s a pretty significant thing to do, allowing your veins to be tapped and trusting that the other person won’t take your life in the process of taking your blood. That’s not something to be done casually between strangers, at least in her opinion. Her eyes finally venture a glance down towards the desk that separates Malakai from her and spotting the small stack of papers sitting there, she suddenly seems to remember that she might’ve been interrupting. To her credit, she does appear remorseful. “Sorry, are you still busy? I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
willcassidy:
He pouted for a moment as if disappointed by her request, though he’d known the response. Still, he tilted his head to the side as he watched her speak. Finally, he chuckled a little as she finished and shook his head a little, “Damn, you drive a tough bargain, Miss. How about I play a song and if you like it, we go get a drink , deal?”
Amusement twitches up the corners of her mouth as he speaks, despite a half-hearted attempt to smother it. If nothing else, she’s at least entertained by his confidence. He’d been in a foul mood not but a minute ago, ranting to everyone and no one all at once, and yet he was quick to turn on the charm if the opportunity presented itself. Opportunist. That’d serve him well as a musician if he knew how to capitalize on that particular trait. Well, that and actual talent. His good looks certainly weren’t a hindrance either. Yes, she has noticed. She doesn’t turn him down exactly, even if her first instinct is to do so. That’s through no fault of his; she has a reason to keep people at arm’s length, a reason to be wary of strangers. Years spent looking over her shoulder while on the run has fostered a general sense of distrust, one that existed long before that but seemed to deepen over time. It’s proving quite difficult to shake, but she’s determined to try. Even if progress remains slow-going. She shakes her head a little, smile still curving ruby lips. “Not making any promises, but we’ll see. Fortune favors the bold and all that.” Nodding towards him in gesture, she curls her fingers around her cup of coffee. “Go on, then. Ready whenever you are.”

mariisawolf:
“It sure is.” Mari loved a busy night. Sure, it meant that there might be more problems, but one of the perks of her new wolf-hood was that she no longer hand to wait around for security to handle it. She could usually handle it on her own. And the tips were great. Sometimes more than her check. “I have just the thing.” Mari mixed up a few things before putting it in a glass for the woman. “I call it ‘Floored’ because that’s what usually happens after a few of these,” she said with a little laugh as she placed it in front of the woman.
Serena preferred busy nights too. Easier to blend in, get lost in a crowd. As if she hadn’t done enough of that in her life. Drumming the fingers of one hand against the bartop while she waits on the bartender to serve her a drink, she swivels a bit in her seat as she gives the place another once-over before returning her attention to the other woman. Eyeing the concoction slid her way, she takes it in hand and shoots the brunette a smile. “Sounds like nothing but trouble.” Judging by the fact that her grin has yet to disappear, it's clear that she wasn’t at all minding. Raising the glass to her lips, she takes a cautious sip and lets the taste settle a bit before giving her judgment. “Okay, see that?” Setting her glass down, she points towards it. “That’s delicious. Therefore deadly,” she laughs, mixing her drink some more with the straw provided to her. “I think I’ll err on the side of caution and only have the recommended ‘few’, whatever that ends up meaning. What’s even in that, by the way?”

“It’s not humans making the jokes,” he laughed slightly. “I can say that it is less than ten but that’s still too many,” he added as he thought about it. He was all for humour but his tended to be a bit on the dark side. It was those kind of jokes that made the job easier to make dark thoughts easier. It was wrong and he knew it but it was his way of relieving tension. “You never mentioned this,” his smile grew and he couldn’t help but laugh. “As long as you put me in a good museum. Not one of those sad old ones that nobody visits and just looks depressing,” he told her. He took another drink and thought on when he was just turned he never though he would live again. Truly live, but here he was with the girl he brought up. It had not been easy but he never wanted easy. He shook it off knowing himself it was never good to dwell on that period of time. It was where his nightmare and fears hid knowing full well he would never dare to look if he can avoid it. Not without switching off his emotions and it has been a very long time since he had to do that.
“I take it I have no choice in the matter?” he asked amused. “Ah got you,” he nodded. “Alright, alright, I’ll stay,” he smiled warmly. “though you’ll have to drop me off at work since I walked here,” he told her. Not that he stayed that far. He wondered what she had gotten him or made him this year. He always loved receiving her gifts because they always had a lot of thought behind them. He kept them as well. It was sentimental, but he didn’t care. He can even see him keeping them even long into his ancient years if he lives that long. He wondered how the world would be then and if there will be one. He finished off his glass. “I’m going to quickly look over your stuff,” he told her. “Since your first day is tomorrow,” he told her picking up the laptop again. His olive eyes scanning the pages. She was right it was more academic but the principals were there. Each bringing up brief memories of when he taught her. There was nothing left out either. “This is really good kochanie,” he told her with a very impressed tone. “Very comprehensive and I can see both our styles in there. You’ll be fine. Any junior hunter will be lucky to have you as their professor,” he added. “My daughter is a professor imagine that,” he smiled the pride beaming off him.
“Yeah well, my ulterior motive for hanging around you until you fossilize isn’t exactly the kind of thing I can just casually bring up.” Affecting a slightly exaggerated shrug, she almost seems charged with a different, comical kind of energy. She even pretends to be mildly offended by his request, placing a hand over her heart. “Wow, I’m hurt. Give me some credit. The first place that’ll be hearing from me is obviously the Natural History Museum, but I’ll shop around for others too. Make sure you have pride of place.” Clapping a hand onto his shoulder, she gives it a few pats as if to say ‘I got this’. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll take care of it.” She manages to poker face through one nod before a smile starts twitching up the corners of her lips and she gives in, chuckling. Serena hasn’t smiled or laughed like this since Malcolm and Jasmin. The immediacy in which her heart seems to fill at this awareness startles even her, but then that’s the point isn’t it?
A wider, toothier grin splits across her face at his acceptance of her request as she waves off his one stipulation. “Not an issue. I’ll even pass by your place in the morning in case you want a change of clothes or something before I drop you off at work. I don’t mind.” It’s then that she remembers. “Speaking of not minding, I also don’t mind if you take the bedroom.” Knowing him, however, he’s probably half a second away from arguing against it so she swoops in and denies him the chance. “Before you even say anything, I’d actually prefer it if you took the bedroom. Chances are I won’t be able to get a good night’s sleep anyway, but the real reason is so I can work on that surprise and you can pretend, behind closed doors, that you have no idea what I’m up to.” Cryptic, but eventually he’d see what she meant. After a certain point there wasn’t going to be any hiding of it either way. Especially not from a vampire. When he reaches for her laptop again, she takes that as her cue to focus her attention elsewhere. Anywhere else. She’s not too keen on the idea of just sitting next to him, fidgeting, eyes darting from his face to the screen and back again in an attempt to gauge his reaction. So instead she grabs the nearly empty bottle of wine, refills her glass to drain the rest of it, and goes about passing the time cleaning up a little around the apartment.
She knows it probably hasn’t even been that long, but she’s both impatient and nervous to hear Francis’ verdict. More nervous than anything else given how much she values his opinion and how little she’s been valuing her own the past couple years. What if she needs to make several changes? What if her work isn’t up to par? What if she just doesn’t know what she’s doing at all and it shows? Serena absentmindedly wrings the dish rag in her hands for what feels like the hundredth time before Francis’ voice shatters the silence and she practically races back towards the living room, poking her head in from the kitchen. “Really?” she asks innocently, genuinely seeking his advice. He’s never been one to withhold it so she doubts he’d start now. As he goes on with his praise, Serena is drawn further and further into the room, coming to a stop near his armrest and leaning some of her weight against it. Her smile grows under all that praise, cresting her flattered visage, and she seems almost slightly embarrassed by the pride and affection in his voice. Though also deeply touched by it. Naturally, she tries playing it off.
Lightly swatting at his shoulder with the dish rag, she grins. “Cut it out,” she jokingly admonishes, eyes meeting his for a moment so he can see that her smile has reached them before her gaze diverts to watch her fingers pluck away at the frayed edges of the rag’s laundry tag. “Thanks, dad. I mean it.” He doesn’t have to look into her eyes to know that she does. If he did, though, he might’ve noticed the far-away look caught in her stare. She seems to take a breath — a pause, rather — before she speaks up again. A bit quieter this time. “It’s funny — I’ve been thinking lately that, I don’t know, maybe they’d be proud of me too?” She doesn’t have to explain who ‘they’ are. Not to him. “It’s not field expeditions in the Arctic or curating art exhibits, but a position at the academy still counts as scholarly, right?” Not a serious question, made obvious by the small smile she directs his way. Her parents’ had been brilliant minds in their respective fields. Their aspirations for their only child had been lofty and Serena hadn’t done much in the way of discouraging that. Her aptitude for learning had instilled in them the belief that their little girl would be someone someday. She just didn’t think that a position teaching young hunters how to hunt down rogue supernaturals was quite what they had in mind. “I don’t know. I guess I hope they’d be proud, but I’m not actually too hung up on it either way. Huh. That’s … new,” she chuckles, blinking a little wide-eyed as if she hasn’t made that realization until just now. "Damn. I guess that’s progress?”
I can’t control it sometimes.
“I opened myself to the gentle indifference of the world.”

think of me, I’ll never break your heart think of me, you’re always in the dark
My first inclination is to hibernate completely but I am willing to make an effort. I will force myself out of my numb little hole and see if I surprise myself by having some fun.
