Dawn couldn’t say how happy she was to be wearing a mask at that moment. She didn’t really want to be at the ball to begin with, but the possibility of having her secret exposed had her there. The plunging neckline on her dress had her insecure, sure she never would have stepped outside her front door if she hadn’t had the anonymity of the filigree mask wrapped delicately around her head. Heels the same blue as her dress clicked against the tile as she entered the hall, both hands holding the bell of her dress off the floor as she walked, looking around the room.
The name of the girl she was supposed to meet sounded familiar, but she honestly couldn’t remember a face. Not that it would have even helped, everyone being incognito for the night. And her challenge. She couldn’t possibly do that, not to people she didn’t know, not to anyone really. She wasn’t that type of person. Hazel eyes swooped over the crowd, biting gently at her lower lip. Maybe some champagne would help her ease her jitters, but she needed to stay about herself, needed to find Drew. Dawn kept that at the front of her mind as she made her way toward the bar, letting out a heavy breath.
