monster bundle 2020 speedcubeshop

i got the diy bundle because it was cheaper but unfortunately i will not be sharing pictures of my cube because i stickered it really badly (blame the shaky hands) and it wouldn’t be a fair representation of the product at all

aesthetics:

it’s really cute! keep in mind the default sticker set has a grey instead of a red. i wish i had known this before, i would’ve gotten other stickers, but that is a me problem since it was pretty clearly stated.

the color scheme throws me off because i’m not really good at recognizing black in place of white yet and orange being opposite grey just isn’t that intuitive for me, so i’m not as fast at recognizing patterns as i could otherwise be

when the black center isn’t oriented correctly the little ghost looks really cute

i actually haven’t seen the glow in the dark yet, it’s probably just because i haven’t really been anywhere with a lot of light so it hasn’t “charged up”. but that doesn’t bother me because the color by itself is really appealing anyway

the mat is really cute too! not much to say about it other than the new cube mat smell never fails to make me happy

the bags are all really nice material and look dope. the ghost one is my favorite

performance: disclaimer: i do not claim to be a professional speedcuber. i haven’t handled a lot of speedcubes. i don’t know much about what makes a speedcube good or bad. i’m really mostly into aesthetics and general feel of cubes.

it’s nice! i had a glow in the dark cube once a while ago and it was really gritty, so i was kind of expecting that with this one, but it isn’t at all. maybe it was dumb to expect that though lol

i got the professional set up service with this one since i feel like i ruin all my cubes and it was well worth it, they did a really good job lubricating it and tensioning it. it runs very smoothly. plus also the pumpkin spice lube smells great

corner cutting isn’t the best in the world, but it’s pretty great. not quite 45 degrees but pretty close so that’s definitely awesome. reverse cutting is probably what you’d expect.

after i broke this in i was able to get some pretty good tps, although not as much as i would be able to if it were magnetized. i’ve ordered a magnet kit from speedcubeshop to try to convert it and i’ll update on how that goes

all in all it’s a pretty solid cube. i doubt many people are gonna be using it in competitions, especially since if you want magnets you have to add them yourself, but it’s definitely competition worthy imo. 

this is the part where i’d show an average of 5 with this cube but 1) the cube looks like poopy & 2) im really really rusty so it’d be embarrassingly slow. i need a lot of practice before i’ll be comfortable on camera again

overall rating:

like i mean. there was nothing wrong with it but i feel like i can’t rate it a 5/5 since there are much better cubes out there. i’d rate it a 5/5 on the speedcubeshop website (and i have done that, actually) but i think here i’ll give it a 4/5. just because it could be better
