Part of the reason why Garashir is so near and dear to my heart is that it's acted out intentionally on the parts of both actors. It wasn't just a happy accident, it wasn't just the chemistry. Andy Robinson looked at Alexander Siddig on set and said, "By God, I will play my character as wanting to fuck this man" and he did, and Sid responded perfectly, and now thirty years later Garak and Bashir are canon and married. They talk about them in interviews. They talk about them with fans. Before Lower Decks, they acted out multiple fanfics where Garak and Bashir got together in some fashion. Hell, they have WRITTEN fic with romantic undertones.
That's insane to me. That's nuts. I'm so used to seeing ships where the actors are baffled that people shipped their characters, or even repulsed/annoyed. This was an era of Star Trek when Rick Berman was doing everything to censor or just get rid of anything non-straight and cis. And yet Andy Robinson and Alexander Siddig did all that anyway. And yet some of the writers were fully onboard.
I'm so glad we got the Lower Decks episode, but honestly just the fact that the actors are on board and care about the ship is more sweet to me.

my dearest toaster appreciation post
had an incredible thrift store find today, four seasons of voyager for under 10 euros!! amazing that this apparently can just happen in the wild
they're having a bbecb (beautiful boy eye contact battle)
My biggest "He would not say that" currently is Miles O'Brien being communicative about the O'Brien polycule. Like, y'all genuinely believe that Miles "Irish Emotional Repression Champion Six Years Running" O'Brien is having an open and honest conversation with his wife about opening their marriage? Did we watch the same show? All of the polycule stuff is 100% orchestrated by Keiko and Miles has to be tricked into all of it like a child being fed hidden vegetables in a pasta sauce. It's so good for him and he genuinely loves it but he's whining and complaining about it the entire time.
This man is bisexual and polyamorous and it is 100% against his will. He wants so badly to be straight and monogamous and he isn't and it drives him crazy! His only choice in the matter was choosing to marry a free-love hippie botanist who sets him up with all of his friends so thoroughly and sneakily that he can't avoid it even if he tries.
He loves all of it but if you think for a second that he's letting himself have it or is in any way engaging with it with healthy communication and clear boundaries you do not understand this man at all.
sending you lots of lore
[image description: a digital drawing of Lore from Star Trek TNG from the waist up. he is wearing the Pakled uniform from the episode "Brothers". his head is facing to the side, and he's looking at the viewer with a smirk. his hands are in front of him, fingertips touching. he's drawn with no color, black lineart and yellow shading. behind his head is a patch of red, a sparkle disrupting it. his speech bubble reads, "lol. (lots of lore.)" in all caps. the background is white. /end description]

I gaf about them π
Data study I did a week or two ago, probably should've at least signed it, but what the hell
I think I've said if before but s7 of ds9 should have been entirely about garak, damar and kira hiding in the trenches
garak, tinkering away in the barely lit room: so, damar, how long have you been thirsting for dukat?
kira: *chokes on her joint*
damar, on his 5th bottle of mila's home-brewed kanar that hits 10 times harder: and he knew I'd lie to protect him anyway...
garak, painting kira's toenails with old nail polish from his teens he found in a corner: he'd do that
kira, exhaling smoke: he fucked my mom
damar: *chokes*
garak, painting with extreme precision as if he was dismantling a bomb: he'd do that, too
I tell you, this is my favorite dynamic
What colour is he painting her nails?
Obsidian?
Or blue!
Purple glitter
This:
Yes. This.
I havenβt watched Star Trek: The next generation yet, but from the clips Iβve seen online Iβve come to the conclusion that data is the biggest sweetheart ever and everyone is mean to him for some reason??
the reason is autism
deanna troi my beloved

The TNG writers seriously underutilized Picard's artificial heart. On a pre-warp planet or stuck in the past? Don't die. The autopsy will ruin everything. A shuttle's (or Dataβs??) power cells are failing on a remote planet? Get the jumper cables. Someone stabs you thinking they've landed a killing blow? Wrong. Solid duritanium. Technology scavengers realize the most valuable piece of equipment is in your chest? Run fast. TSA checkpoint? Heart confiscated (unless you put it in checked luggage). Bad guys aim a compressed teryon beam at your chest? Boom. Dead (it's okay, he got better).
oh, that's actually so beautiful. I love that so much.
How it feels sometimes.
