For those who need a little darkness in their soul

It’s intimidating to have 5 pony size boys all staring at you until she stands up realizes it’a you and walks to you.

I used to have this 30lb rescue mutt, skinny as a greyhound and sweet as cotton candy. Honestly, this dog had two settings: asleep and cuddlealloveryou.

I was about seventeen, walking home from the local store, at about 7 pm in the winter. It was dark, but it was also freezing cold so in the interests of time I cut across the park.

Some dudes started following me, and at first I didn’t think anything of it. When they started chirping me, though, I got a little scared. That’s when Lucky decided she had a third setting, Cerberus, and she hit that switch. I’d never heard any dog - not the Shepherds and Dobermans at the leash free, nor the Pitbulls I helped walk at the animal shelter - make a noise like that in my life. She snarled like I’d raised her on human souls and sorrow.

The guys literally stopped in their tracks and went “whoa”, to which I went, “NOT FRIENDLY. NOT FRIENDLY. SHE BITES SHES NOT FRIENDLY!”, all helpful-neighbourly and, more importantly, very LOUDLY.

The guys immediately backed off, evidently deciding that ShoutingTeenage Girl + Hell Hound = Hell No.

but god help anyone who came to the house when my dad wasn’t home. if it was just my mum and my sisters, or just us kids for whatever reason, he would snarl and growl at any man who walked down the driveway. he nearly bit a religious door knocker once, just because he could sense my anxiety.
