the car ride to the movies was… awkward to say the least. you had no idea what to talk to yoonchae about, no known common interests whatsoever. she wasn't dressed nice and neither were you. both in a hoodie and sweats, yet somehow she looked even cuter than usual.

“hey, yoonchae?” you murmured, accidentally brushing against her shoulder as you two walked towards the movie theater doors.

“yeah?” she replied without bothering to look at you, slowly but surely moving further away from you. “uh, i was wondering if you wanted to take a photo in front of the movie poster so our managers can stop bothering us for a bit?” you smiled awkwardly, opening the door for her.

she walked past you, not even bothering to say thank you. “that's fine. i can just take it by myself and you can take the photo.”

“oh. okay, that's fine.” you nodded, printing the tickets out at the kiosk before grabbing your phone. yoonchae led you to the movie poster, you following her like a puppy. she turned and looked at you with a weird expression on her face.

“can you.. stop smiling?” she muttered, “it's.. weird.”

an awkward laugh came out of your mouth before you knew it, “oh. sorry, i didn't know i was.” you paused to open your camera app, pointing your camera towards her. “could you move a little bit over to the left? you're kind of blocking the poster.”

“oh. yeah, sure.”

“thanks.” you smiled, clicking the button a couple times. “looks great.” not that you were lying, she always looked good. yoonchae looked gorgeous even if she wasn't dressed up.

“hey. i’m gonna get some popcorn and soda. want some?” she left you almost immediately, practically running to the counter. you followed suit, standing awkwardly behind her while she browsed the candy options.

“uhm… could i get a medium pepsi, a small sized popcorn, and some chocolate?” she asked the worker, grabbing her card from her wallet.

the worker droned on, clearly bored of his job. “that’ll be $25. tap or insert your card right there please.”

before yoonchae could tap her card, you reached out from her side, pressing your card against the reader. “hey, i got it. i asked you to come here last minute so it's only right i pay.”

yoonchae gave you a weird look— again before putting away her card. “thanks.. you didn't have to. i’m not broke.”

“oh— i didn't mean it like that, yoonchae. really. i just wanted to pay because this was a last minute thing.” you laughed awkwardly before stopping after seeing her confused expression. “sorry. are you ready? let's go.”

“yeah. let's go.” she grabbed her things and left with you trailing behind her.

you sat in the chair next to her, barely resisting the urge to not stare at her while she sipped her drink. the movie started in the background but you weren't paying attention at all, too busy staring at yoonchae as she ate her popcorn.

“so pretty,” you murmured to yourself, not even thinking about what you were saying. she turned her head to look at you, catching you staring as her hand was in her popcorn bucket. “did you say something?”

you blinked, laughing, “what? pfft, me? nope. nothing.”

“uhm.. alright.” she mumbled. you missed when yoonchae glanced back at you, staring at your facial features. she never noticed how pretty you looked, the way you looked when you were trying to stay focused.

you set your arm down on the armrest next to yoonchae’s drink as you tried to focus on the movie showing in front of you. and you were doing pretty well until you felt an arm against yours— yoonchae’s arm. she didn't even bother to move it either and neither did you. why would you anyway? that's the love of your life right there.

before you knew it, the movie ended. yoonchae moved away from you, the warmth from her arm suddenly leaving you cold. you cleared your throat, “ready?”

“yeah. let's go.”

you helped her clean up her stuff, throwing away her popcorn bucket and candy wrapper. she walked past you, her drink cup in her hands. your throat was dry just looking at her and you didn't even eat any popcorn.

“hey y/n?” she asked, slowing down her pace to walk alongside you. “what's up?” you smiled, glancing at her before opening the passenger door for her.

“thanks for taking me. i appreciate it.” she smiled back at you before shutting the door. the smile on your face got bigger, the giddy feeling swelling in your chest as you skipped to the drivers seat.

the car ride was silent, but enjoyable. well for you at least. yoonchae, probably not so much. you arrived at her apartment building, parking on the curb to drop her off. “hey, thanks for coming yoonchae. i appreciated it a lot.” you smiled, unlocking the door for her.

“yeah, no problem. i had fun too.” she awkwardly smiled back, grabbing her bag before leaving the car. you waited for her to enter the building before leaving, making sure she got back home safely.

the ride back home was comfortable and your bed was even more comfortable. the moment you kicked off your shoes and hopped in your bed was amazing— well not before you logged onto twitter and said something.
