Aaron has returned to talk to his mum.

He says to her... Safety brakes don't just fail like that.

Chas says to him as they sit down with coffees in hand.... You can't honestly think this has got anything to do with Serena.

Aaron says... But it's weird though. And there's all that money for Frankie.

Chas says... Yeah, which was really generous.

Aaron says... A bit too generous.

Chas tells him... Please don't get worked up by this.

Aaron says... But why not? Stuff is happening, and she's in the middle of it. And I can't even get Robert to listen to me.

Chas suggests... Right, well, how's about we keep our eyes on? You and me. But nothing crazy, OK?

Aaron says... No. It's enough. I need to stop her.

Chas tells him... You can't go wading in accusing her. love. If she's up to summat then we'll figure it out and we'll sort it. But together, OK?

Aaron and Robert return from Aaron taking him to see Liam.

Robert tells Serena... It's just a sprained wrist. No concussion. Robert has a supportive brace on his wrist.

Aaron adds... Yeah, so far, but Liam said it might still show up.

...So I'll be keeping my eye on you. He adds.

Serena coos... Aw, looks like he's in safe hands.

Aaron replies... Yeah he is.

Serena tells Robert... I've towed the trailer back up to the barn. It looks like the safety brake failed, so it'll need checking.

Robert says... No. It needs replacing. Joe just refuses to accept that the machinery round here is shot.

Serena says... Well, he'll have to listen now.

Robert scoffs... This is Joe Tate we're talking about here.

Serena says... But if things aren't safe, then...

Aaron chimes in... Then, we'll sort it. We're not just running back to him every time, all right?

Serena says... All right, I'll leave you to it. Just let me know if you need a hand with anything.

Serena leaves, Robert gives Aaron a look for his hostility towards Serena as they sit down on the sofa.

Robert sighs as Aaron says... It's a bit of a coincidence though, innit? Suddenly there's a problem with the trailer, and she's there to find you, like some hero?

Robert says to him.... Aaron, it was an accident.

Aaron says... Right, and how many times has a trailer just set off down a field on its own?

Robert says... It hasn't, but that...

Aaron cuts in to to add... On exactly the right path to knock you over?

Aaron returns home to see Serena helping an injured Robert sit on the sofa.

Aaron asks... What happened?

Serena tells him... He got knocked out by a runaway trailer.

Aaron says... I was asking him.

Robert says... I'm fine. I just... I don't know what happened.

As Serena tends to Robert's injured arm.

Robert says... I was walking down the field, and it just... Came out of nowhere.

Robert groans in pain as Serena is checking his injury.

Robert says... I mustn't have secured it properly.

Aaron says... Well, you're usually really careful with that kind of stuff, so...

Robert says... I know. I just... I made a mistake. I won't make it again.

Serena says... Right, I'll get some ice for your wrist. I don't think anything is broken.

Aaron quips... What, you're a trained medic an' all are you? Must run in the family. Serena goes into the kitchen in search of ice as Aaron sits on the sofa with Robert.

Robert tells Aaron... Aaron stop having a go. I'm lucky she found me.

Aaron says sarcastically... Yeah, you are. You're really lucky.

Serena returns with some frozen peas. Telling Robert... these will work better than ice. We'll soon have you back in working order.

Aaron announces... I'm gonna phone Liam.

Robert plays it down as.... It's probably just a scratch.

Aaron says... What. That's left you in that much pain? You need your head checking as well. You might have a concussion....

Following Aaron's techy conversation with Serena, Aaron's gone to the pub but is in the back room checking his phone. Chas has just had a run in with a miserable & unraveling Mackenzie in the bar & Chas notices Aaron's mood isn't much better.

Chas greets Aaron with... Oh, here he is, another ray of sunshine!

Aaron asks... What?

Chas tells him... Never mind. What's up? Or need I ask?

Aaron replies... Serena.

Aaron says... (She) Said she was out with a mate last night.

Chas asks... And?

Aaron says.... a police mate.

Chas not understanding the issue says... Well, she did used to be in the force. What's Robert saying?

Aaron replies... He's been out on the farm since first thing this morning, and he's not answering any of my calls. So he's obviously still annoyed with me.

Aaron's phone rings, he answers it, he tells his mum, that was her, Robert's had an accident.

Aaron gets up and rushes off. Chas is wondering what's going on with them.

Aaron is making himself a coffee when Serena enters the kitchen from outside.

She tells him... Good timing I'll have a coffee thanks.

Aaron is giving her hostility retorts.... Not with me you won't!

Aaron noticing her muddy shoes tells her... And don't be walking around the house in them either. Pointing to her shoes.

Aaron asks her... Where have you been? (To get so dirty)

Serena points out.... This is a farm. But takes her shoes off.

Aaron asks her... So how was your mate last night?

Aaron remains highly suspicious of her.

Serena replies... We had a laugh. Might want to try it sometime!

Aaron replies to that... Maybe I will. What did you get up to?

Serena tells him... Few drinks, something to eat.

Aaron quips... Wow. Is that it?

Serena says... Yeah. It wasn't some big night out.

Aaron says... I'm assuming this mate of yours is in the police as well?

Serena says... They are. I'm not. Why does it matter?

Aaron says... Well, why do you think?

Serena says to him... Fine. I'm guessing Robert told you about our little chat yesterday? I swear you don't need to worry..... I've got Robert's back and Victoria's.

Aaron tells her... Well, I don't trust you.

Serena says... Well, maybe you should. Because if I was going to tell the police, you'd be arrested by now.

We get a picturesque view of the farm.

Robert is out feeding the cows, when he sees police cars whizzing past the field, Robert is preoccupied with thoughts of Aaron's theory that Serena may turn them & Vic in for covering up Victoria's killing of John.

When suddenly a very large trailer of hay begins rolling towards him, which he fails to notice.

Robert doesn't spot it veering towards him until it's too late to get out of the way & Robert is hit & knocked unconscious.

Aaron walks in the farm house to find Robert sitting at the kitchen table with a beer in hand, Robert tells Aaron his dinner is in the oven. Robert has already eaten his.

Aaron scans the room for Serena as he tells Robert never mind that, what did you want to talk about?

Robert tells him... Serena has gone to meet a mate.

Robert tells Aaron awkwardly... I need to tell you something, and I don't want you to get angry or kick off. But erm... She knows that Vic killed John.

Aaron exclaims... What?

Robert explains to him... She worked out that something wasn't right with us selling out to the Tates and Vic going to Portugal when she did.

An incredulous, Aaron says... Is this some sort of a joke?

Robert tells him... She's not going to say anything.

Aaron kicks off telling Robert.... And you believe that?! She's police!

Robert says... She pretty much said she's glad he's dead.

Aaron says getting angry... This is why she's been asking questions Robert. I told you we couldn't trust her.

Robert though insists... This proves that we can.

Aaron shouts... Are you thick? And who's this mate she's never mentioned before?

Robert replies... I don't know I didn't ask her.

Aaron shouting says... Maybe you should've asked her, because who are coppers mates with? Other coppers.

Robert says... No, no, she. No, she wouldn't do that.

Aaron says... Oh my god. Exasperated by Robert's naivete turning towards the door.

Robert says... What, where are you going?

Aaron snaps... I'm going back to the pub. I'm gonna have one last pint before we get sent down.

Aaron is in the pub with Moira & his mum, Caleb is discussing the fake car parts scam he's running with Billy & Kerry as Kerry suggests they should talk to Aaron & Cain about getting the garage involved but Caleb tells her no & not to tell Ruby either.

Caleb tells Kerry the garage is too close to home & to stick to what they are doing.

Moira says to Aaron she thinks she was a bit hard on Serena earlier, adding She's pretty persistent she's not with the police anymore. But Aaron doesn't trust Serena as far as he could throw her.

Aaron says... We've only got her word for that... And she keeps hiding things like knowing John.

Caleb earwigging creeps over to ask who's in the police? Chas & Moira answer in unison "Serena" Caleb views the information a bit of a turn up! Chas tells Caleb, don't you start.

As Aaron says... you can believe a word she says as he gets a message from Robert asking him... Where are you? We need to talk.

Robert is feeling the pressure of the interrogation as he says to Serena... It doesn't matter how much you wanna go through all of this. You already know everything there is to know.

Serena says... Bob was talking about this place in the pub, why Moira had to sell up.

Robert says... I've already told you all of that. It's got nothing to do with John. You're trying to find links that aren't there.

Serena says... He didn't know why YOU had to sell up though.

Robert says... It was for the best.

Serena asks... Wasn't this place meant to be your legacy? Yours and Vic's? So why did she move to Portugal?

Robert replies.... Why not? It's good food, good weather, and we've got family there.

Serena says... And still it's a shame that you had to miss out because of that.

Robert says... She wanted a fresh start. I couldn't make her stay.

Serena asks... So you sold to the Tates? What did they give you? A bag of magic beans? Cos you're always scratching around for cash.

Robert tells her... That's none of your business.

Serena pushes on with her hunch asking... Or was it for Vic... And her fresh start?

An exasperated Robert asks her... What is it you're after here?

Serena replies.... I'm interested. It's just funny how this sudden desire to move happened just as John apparently killed himself.

Robert tells her... Vic's a good person. And whatever it is you think you know, the world's a better place without John in it. Vic's done nothing wrong.

Serena says... I never said she had.

Robert says... It sounds like you're trying to accuse her of something.

Serena says... Something like murder?

Robert says... Right, you can ask anyone around here, they'll all tell you that Vic wouldn't hurt a fly.

Serena says.... Shame.

Robert asks.... What?

Serena says... It's just, if she did do it....

Robert adds... Which she didn't.

Serena continues... But if she did... I'd be buying her a drink not turning her in..... Relax yourself. I'm agreeing with you. She's done nothing wrong. I only wanted the truth and... Now I've got it.

Robert says... I've not said anything.

Serena says... You didn't have to. I won't take it any further. You have my word on that.

Robert is cooking dinner as Serena arrives home from the pub,

Robert greets her & asks how was your drink?

Serena tells him... Interesting.

She asks him.... is Aaron not around?

Robert tells her... No, he's gone around to Cain's.

Serena quips... So much for your romantic night in.

Robert tells her... Yeah. He'll calm down. He just gets things stuck in his head sometimes. You know he has had a few run-ins with the police over the years.

Serena says... It doesn't make me the enemy.

Robert says... Yeah. He'll get used to it. Just give him a bit of time. Anyway what was so interesting?

Serena says... Moira was there. She's about as keen on me as Aaron.

Robert quips... Ha!

Serena says... Yeah, I was with her yesterday, and she clearly didn't want to talk about John.

Robert says... Yeah, I know your heart's in the right place an' all and that money for Frankie was really generous, but... Going around asking people about John... It's not gonna get you any friends around here. Everyone just wants to move past it all.

Serena asks... Including you?

Robert replies... Well, yeah. Obviously.

Serena says... I still can't believe he killed himself. I mean it's been a long time since I've seen him, but... Doesn't feel real.

Robert says... Don't know how many times you wanna go over it all. That's the truth.

Serena presses him & says... Thing is, when people say that, it rarely is, in my experience.

Robert says... Well, all the information's available online. So feel free to look it all up. Haven't you got mates in the police? Why don't you ask them?

Serena tells him... I already have.

Robert replies... Well...

Serena continues... And the story is the same wherever I go.

Robert says... Well there you go, then.

Serena says... But something's not right. So what aren't you telling me?

Serena is in the pub feeling sorry for herself when Bob offers himself up as an agony Uncle, Serena says Robert's asked her to stay for good she says she can help out on the farm & do a few shifts in the pub.

So Bob asks so what's the problem then? She tells him... Aaron. He won't give her a chance.

Moira walks up to the bar and puts her two cents in telling Serena... Can you blame him? You did lie to him.

Serena says she... didn't lie.

Moira says she's spoken to him, and asks... Why didn't you tell anyone you are a police officer?

Serena clarifies... Ex-police officer. What's it to you?

Moira tells her, as Serena is getting hostile.... I don't like secrets.

Bob attempts to lighten the atmosphere by joking... We've all got a few of them.

Moira acknowledges.... Mm, fine. Maybe we have. But the whole family's been through a lot. And that's not just with John. So a bit of honesty wouldn't go amiss.

Aaron is home having a gaming session when Robert & Serena arrive back home from their visit to Vanessa.

Robert is in good spirits now they've cleared everything up, he tells Serena he thinks she's made a friend for life there.

Serena says which isn't why she did it.

Robert tells Aaron... You'd never guess what Serena's done....

Serena interrupts to add... She doesn't want to make a big deal of it.

Aaron quips nonchalantly, great, neither do I whatever it is. Not interested in Serena or happy with her being around them.

Aaron says to Robert... I thought me & you could stay in tonight. Mackenzie asked me to go into Hotten with him, but... I'd rather spend a bit of time with you.

Robert tells him well, I was... Gonna cook for us all.

Serena says... It's fine. I don't mind.

Aaron snaps a response... Great. He's still showing her hostility.

Robert tells Aaron... We've been round to Vanessa's.

Robert deciding to fill him in.

Robert then urges Serena to... Go on. Tell him.

Serena tells him.... I had some money from John. He gave it to us to save the farm when my mum got ill.

Robert interjects... It was before anyone knew what he had done.

Serena continues her explanation to Aaron.... Yeah, and I didn't want the money, not after I'd found out.

Robert tells Aaron showing pride in Serena... So she's given it to Frankie. Well... Tracy for now via Vanessa.

Aaron asks with a hint of accusation... I thought you barely knew him?

Robert tells Aaron... Let's not have another row.

Aaron snaps back... What do you expect? You can't trust a word she says.

Robert says to Aaron... She's done a really decent thing.

Aaron snaps again... Decent? Taking money off him?

Robert is exasperated as he snaps... Oh, for God's sake.

Serena says... What's the point? He's not gonna listen to me.

Serena grabs her coat & announces... I'm off for a drink.

Robert has come with Serena to visit Vanessa.

Serena is hoping to give what remains of John's pension to Frankie but Vanessa is not sure about it, telling her it's a lot of money & she has never even met Frankie.

Serena says she knows that & she realises no amount of money will bring her dad back, but she just wanted her to have some security at John's expense. She asks Vanessa or does she think Tracy won't want it because it came from him?

Vanessa concedes that's for her to decide, but thanks Serena for the generous offer. Serena says it's the right thing to do.

Vanessa says she'll call Tracy tonight but for now she's on call & her phone rings on cue as she takes the call Robert & Serena are about to see themselves out when Robert apologizes to Serena for doubting her & grilling her like that.

Serena tells him to forget it.

Robert tells her he's... just not that used to people surprisingly me. In a good way, I mean.

Robert tells her that was a pretty amazing thing she just did, then they head home.
